***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Your whole theory is flawed. It only encompasses people who purchase the Razr on launch day. If you buy it one day later you would be able to experience both. Those who are planning on doing this can wait one extra day to get the phone, for the ability to return it for the Nexus. It is silly to think that this is part of the marketing strategy.

Thank you. If it launches in store the 10th and the nexus launches the 17th that is 7 days and people still have time to return it. Most people won't return the phone unless it has a ton of issues and the ones who will return it are the ones who will wait to be inside the 14 days return policy anyway.

I can actually see where the Nov 8th date could be a possibility. Yes Verizon likes to release on Thursdays, but if the GNex is releasing on Nov 10, and they want or have some need to release the RAZR prior(I think we can all agree they do), they could make an exception to that date... This would also explain the difference in pre-order shipping date. Those that pre-ordered are already locked in, no need to get those orders out before the 10th.

This whole premise is under the assumption for some reason they cannot get the RAZR out on the 3rd.

RAZR will ship before the 10th. The "no later than the 10th" is just in case there is a huge demand (iPhone) they change the shipping dates.

Covering their butts in other words.

I am sorry, but I think you are being too optimistic, I know that is a problem for you. I think the RAZR is in serious danger of not coming to Verizon, because Motorola sees it supercedes their recently released Bionic, and also can't compete with the GNex. They might delay it for a few (read 6+) months, and then once their next gen phone is ready, release it, so they can delay the next phone.

They are doing preorders tomorrow for the razr? Did you just crawl out from under your rock because it is everywhere saying about the preorders. smh

I see a lot of release date chatter, which is normal in a pre-release thread.

Do we have any reasonable sources for these dates or are people just saying, "A few Thursdays from the announcement where the phone was revealed," here and so Nov 3rd, Nov 10th, Nov 17th, etc.. and is therefore all conjecture?

Mind you I believe it's unlikely it's before the shipping date that other parts of the world are getting the phone, but I highly doubt it's any significant amount of time after either, so I agree with the logic of the 10th or the 17th.

If Verizon is giving the Razr a bit of a buffer, then the 17th makes the most sense.

Exactly correct. Probably intend to have it in the stores on 11/3 so long as preorders aren't TOO heavy. Not sure how these soft release timeframes work for Best Buy and other third parties? Can they sell anytime after tomorrow if they can get stock?? Not that they would have stock any sooner than the 10th, but if they could get it sooner, can they sell it?

All of the android phones I have had to this point have been Motorola. I kinda feel dirty and almost like Im cheating on the girlfriend by not ordering the Razr. I cant believe the pre order date is gonna come and go without me calling in to snag one up! Should be a great phone and for all that are gonna get it, I hope it is a beast and that you fully enjoy it. But I just got the divorce papers and handed them to my Droid X2 and Im gonna see what Samsung has to offer.

Kobayashi Maru was the name of the fictional freighter in distress in the neutral zone in an impossible simulation that only Kirk ever beat, by reprogramming the simulation model.

Relevance?

1. Getting square info on the release date is like playing Kobayashi Maru.

2. Rooting is always necessary - Kirk had to, and look at the tech he has.

So - you know. ;)

Ahhhh, it's good being among fellow Star Trek geeks.

This is exactly how I feel, except I've been loyal to HTC. Sense is all I really know and while my wife can't understand this, I figure you all can...there's a bit of reservation in me, maybe fear even, but I'm having faith that this Nexus will be all it is supposed to be and all will be good. Up until a short while ago I was getting the Vigor, but reading this thread coupled with the idea that maybe a change in company will TRULY make the phone feel NEW, I'm going with the Nexus. Nervous about it, but doing it.

+1 bilion cause I'm in the same boat (except the wife part) ;)

Amen, I have loved Sense, with the same two phones as you. But I think I am ready for something different as well.

They would be allowed to sell it as long as their is no "hard street date" that verizon set in which they could not sell before. I am sure once best buy gets stock they will be able to sell them. Most likely they wont get stock until it launches in verizon anyway.

There are plenty of third party apps and widgets in the market that will give you that Sense feel without actually having to have Sense on your phone.

Never tried a source-built ROM?

Android without all the bloat is great. When I got my Incredible, I was very skeptical and used Sense for a few months even after rooting. Eventually, I did a nandroid and gave CM6 a whirl.

After that, I knew two things:
1. I don't want Sense, Blur, Touchwiz, or any crap on my phone.
2. I originally wanted a Nexus One and they axed any chance of it on Verizon because the "Incredible was just about the same thing." No, no it's not. Just... no.

MIUI ROMs are nice too, they just do not fit my personal taste.

Even if the hardware isn't as good as something that comes out in three months, it will still get updates faster (or at all) and be more responsive without all the bloat weighing it down.
