Mercy. That just about says it. I couldn't shoot a flea. :D You're safe, Han.

Well I still don't understand why I was slated for execution by vampire and yoda... I didn't say we should take you behind the shed and shoot you; I was merely wondering out loud about the desperate lengths that I suspect it would take to push Verizon into giving us the phone already.

:-(

Take it with a grain of salt. There are so many ways to measure speed that you can concoct ways to make almost any phone seem faster than another. In terms of pure specs;

-SGS2, Nexus, and iPhone 4s all have the same exact CPU, with the SGS2/Nexus at 1.2ghz and the iPhone at 800mhz. So, the iPhone has the slowest CPU.
-The iPhone 4s has the fastest GPU, not even close. The Nexus and SGS2 have different GPUs with different strenghts/weaknesses. They are about equal, with different apps/games/tests favoring one or the other.
-Nexus/SGS2 have 1GB of RAM while the iPhone 4s has 512MB. However, the iPhone 4s doesn't multi-task to the same degree, so the amount of RAM there is adequate.

And then, there's the user-measurable speed. How smooth is the interface? The iPhone is renowned for this aspect, the SGS2 has made large strides over previous Android handsets, and the Nexus looks to redefine the stock UI. So, we'll have to see after the Nexus releases.

Also, the article is flat out wrong. It cites the same BS "SGS540 is from 2007" line that was thrown around here. The SGX540 went into development in 2008, hit actual silicone in 2009, and did not release in a shipping product until 2010. This article is like saying that "although the Xbox 360 came out in 2005, it went into development in 2001, so we'll just say that it's 10 year old tech." Also, the version of the SGX540 in the Nexus is so insanely overclocked compared to the first-generation version that their performance is nowhere near identical.

Rest assured that the article you linked is an outright fabrication with no basis in fact.

And yet you've shot our hopes and dreams down quite a bit, didn't ya?

No fair. That's different. ;)

Regarding 11/21. Again, I have a feeling about that. Remember the advertisement leak that showed the SGN to come out on or after Black Friday? Turned out to be probably not the real release date but an advertising agenda? Remember that?

Well, I'm looking forward to hearing something more solid this week.

Thanks Guys, I'm Gonna NE2. If the darned thing will ever show up.

Then accessorize up, take a Gal to dinner, and by bullets with the rest.

Stock investment tip........ By Ammo. Look at the last 3 year history on a 50 round box of .40 caliber. And its gonna keep rising.

doesn't sound like the article is outright fabrication. the parts in bold clearly support that the article is accurate. the rest of the analysis seems too wishy washy to make that big of a difference.

edit: i mean that the gnex doesn't seem to have a clear advantage in speed like the iphon4s does

This is a VERY old article (as far as phones go :p)

The GNex uses the OMAP 4460. There isn't a phone with a faster CPU available today. While snapdragon clocks higher, it's performance is lower. The iPhone4S runs it's dual core Cortex A9 CPU at 800MHz, so 1.2GHz will be quite the speed bump and performance for CPU tasks will be unmatched. Plus it is likely that this chip will be able to go to 1.5GHz easily.

The packaged GPU in the OMAP is where the contention lies. Put simply, it's no match for the dual core unit in the iPhone4S. However, this isn't the same one that the article claimed was in the Nexus S. This one is clocked almost twice as fast as previous SGX540 units.

The Mali-400 in the Exynos does some things better, and other things worse than the SGX540 in the OMAP. Plus, there are some subroutines available in the OMAP that accelerate certain functions, that the Exynos doesn't have, like native hardware HD decode.

No, this was blown way out of proportion a few weeks ago. The GPU unit will be fine. Admittedly, it isn't as good as the 4S, but it's actually very capable.

For reference, here's a recent benchmark of the phones performance. Notice where the GNex is compared to the SGSII.

It's a very old article, and the conclusion was reached without having all the facts. The GPU in the GNex is not the same as the one in the Nexus S.

I'm not sure what you mean by wishy washy analysis. This is pretty strait forward.

1.2GHz vs 800MHz Cortex A9 CPU. That's a clear advantage in speed to the GNex.

For some intense graphics, the iPhone will have the advantage.

For HD movies, the GNex will have the advantage due to hardware decode.

Ok... I'm going to say gnite to everyone. I saw that Justin Timberlake movie tonight.. It wasn't too bad.

May tomorrow be a good news day!

Well, three things -

- now you know taking Steven behind the shed isn't an answer

- it wasn't Yoda who threatened you

- there was no threat, just an amusing bedtime story, a mere bagatelle

Easy and quick answer: When there is no news or bad news, the crowd gets restless and hungry for blood. In that case? Better you than me this time! Can anyone give me an Amen? :p

If I didn't know any better I would think this were a hippy love Woodstock reunion forum. This place is so full of love, like no other forum on the interwebs ;)

We try. We do get a bit snippy at times but the red hats swoop in, leave us with a stern talking to and all is back to hippy happy land.

Feed meeee! I require SGN or BLOOD! Nothing else will suffice...

yes poor choice of words. that is why i added the edit that begins with "i mean"

Hmm wonder if there will be a bright red case for the sgn... hehe

There's a better chance of that than there is of there being a pink case, which I require.

It's been a very long time since I saw the homescreen of my DX. I know Eclair and Froyo for the DX did not have that feature. But I just tried my wife's running the latest GB, and it did not pinch zoom on the homescreen, either.

Perhaps you're running another launcher. Or more likely I'm missing something.

Good point LOL I've been rocking GoLauncher for so long, I forgot what my phone was like without it.

Good morning fellow G'Nexers / Nexans / Nexolians. Here's hoping we see some good news today. (and if not, let's find another good topic to debate / discuss!)

I hope we get news that we can say "The GNex is coming NEXT WEEK". Doesn't that sound nice to say?
