***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

All right, I had to come out of my self-imposed exile after all of this nonsense. (Note to Droidette: When I announced my departure, you thanked me. Don't know how to take that, exactly. :p)

VZwired seems to be an actual Verizon employee in the know, so I'll go by what he says November-wise. It jigs with what my sister has been saying, so that's not surprising.

As far as Verizon not having cutting edge tech, the simple answer is because they don't have to. I'm sure that is what VZwired would say if he wanted to tell the truth without caring about offending anyone.

They have the best, speediest network available at this time. Once Sprint, TM, and AT&T begin to compare, then we might see Verizon pick up the ball a bit more, but I highly doubt it, for 2 main reasons:

1. The simple fact is that most people in the general Verizon customer population simply don't care about the same specs that we do. They want something that works and looks pretty. Most of all Android devices have good phone reception and look similar. Then there's the iPhone, which will gobble up most of those who have an upgrade to burn, because those people go for brand recognition and just don't care about the quality of their phone as much as we do.

2. Do you think Sprint won't go to tiered data eventually? They will. Once that happens, it's over for us who are on unlimited data. We'll be stuck. I'd much rather stay on a so-so phone with unlimited data then go to the Nexus 6 on Sprint with a 2GB per month cap. What's the point of having the ability to stream HD movies, watch football games in real time, surf the web in a split second, etc., if I can't use those features?

Verizon has us where they want us. Right now, it's network over better phone tech elsewhere. Later, it will be unlimited data over tiny data caps elsewhere.

If you honestly want to go with high tech equipment, you should switch to Sprint now. They have great quality phones now, and those phones will only get better as their network expands into real 4G.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here but I think ALL carriers will eventually move to tiered data pricing. Verizon is already moving in that direction by charging data hogs. It will evolve over time into tiered pricing, mark my words. All carriers will and rightfully so.

If Verizon feels "they don't have to" carry all the latest and greatest thats their choice. That's fine. I'm only saying a lot of us will simply go elsewhere.

So the Prime AKA Charge 2 comes out mid-October. The Nexus phone comes out mid-November. That gives ~2 weeks of heavily marketed Charge 2 sales within 14 days of release of the not-so-much-as-a-word-from-Verizon Nexus phone. Maybe the Charge 2 is $200-$250 on contract and the Nexus is $300-$350.
or there is no Verizon Nexus phone :)

The point I'm trying to make is that they do feel they don't have to carry the latest phone tech, and so they don't.

But I highly doubt that many of us will simply go elsewhere. I think we would have done it already, at least when we heard that they passed on the SGSII and then saw the piece of utter crap the Bionic turned out to be.

What is it going to take? If the Prime turns out to be the Charge 2 and the real nexus ends up going to every other carrier, will that do it? Maybe, but then hard rumors of the Droid Spyder will start leaking out. Or some other fantastical device that sounds too good to be true and will be.

Since OG Droid, Verizon has royally sucked in their offerings. If the Prime isn't, in fact, the next Nexus, I just don't see that changing.

Maybe they're speaking of the Samsung GALAXY Nexus. IF that's truly the name. Time will tell if we'll be as "VERY" happy as VZ_wired expects us to be...

Come on, November 17th!

EDIT: HanSolo, I know you're fed up with Verizon. We all are. This is their big chance to redeem themselves to us... but if they blow it? You're right. They're the only carrier that has decent signal where I am, let alone 4G/LTE. I'll likely stay right here, on my $10 unlimited data, and they can do the Apple thing and tell me what I going to buy and how much I'm going to love it. And I will get their next meager offering, holding my nose as I do it.

So lets use this scenario.

Lets use Sprint as an example. Lets say that Sprint has already built out their 4G LTE network and their speed and reliability are on par with Verizon. Verizons LTE network has it's issues right now but lets just say that all things being equal they are both great LTE networks. Happy customers on both carriers.

You are out of contract and your wife doesn't care about the iPhone.

Would you not switch over to Sprint?

edit: Don't over think the whole thing and talk about pricing and so on. Pricing is equal.

You are right that, that's how it's been but for me not having the Prime will be the last straw.

You are probably right on why Verizon doesn't have cutting edge phone but I for one think it's a bad business model. (let's try to be the best in only some ways but not all) that's just plain dumb. Even if they get the Droid Spyder or whatever pile of crap moto device in not interested. Locked bootloader no thanks I will do what I please with my phone.

I talked to a rep at the verizon store Yesterday hopefully he wasn't full of it. He told me we would see the prime mid october. Hopefully so I waited a long time for the bionic to come out only to be disappointed. Prime don't let me down:)

Maybe he was referring to Stratosphere. It's supposed to come out in October.

You know this is from last Friday, right?

Already discussed in this thread...

Wow, so last week :) You do realize that you linked to post 1026 in that thread. I can't believe no one saw that ! ;) It's all fun though. I am sure there will be another mega leak this week, then next. I suppose none of it matters until its official.

I do like the sound of what was in this though overall ..

Same here. I have no interest in Moto as long as they carry crappy pentile screen, slow camera and stick with locked boot-loader. If Verizon skips Prime, my options will be Revo 2 or going to other carrier for Nexus Prime.

I think people are being a bit gullible believing that the guy vz_wired is a Verizon employee in the know. People just need to relax and wait a few weeks for real information to come out.

Rumors on Prime come and go so fast. so if you are not on this forum regularly, it's easy to miss out some of that.

Ok, last post.

First, you're making our lunch break entertaining, so thanks!

Second, if you guys stick it out, I promise that you'll all be very happy, there will be no need to go phone shopping on black friday, and by Thanksgiving this forum will have a hundred threads going at once. By Turkey Day you will also have had more than a week or two playing with your new phones all day that you'll be able to put it down and enjoy your football.

;)

You wouldn't LIE to an ELDERLY WOMAN, would you??

Of course I would; money being equal, I'd be an idiot not to.

But the reality is that once Sprint is up to VZ standards network-wise, they'll be tiered, and if I'm still on unlimited data, I'm stuck. That's the point I'm trying to make.

Now, if Verizon kicks us out of unlimited and does tiered across the board, I'm dropping them faster than a crow's turd.

A crow's turd lol I like that one. Or why not just do it now honestly their network is not bad. My work phone is sprint the service is just as good if not better. If I'm going to be using a tonight of data its usually on wifi so who cares if their 4g isn't as robust or fast yet. If you don't even have a decent phone to consume data on why do you need such a great and expensive plan?

Ok good :)

That's the point I was trying to make. The ONLY thing that keeps most of us here is the network.

News Break. Appears the iPhone 5 is NOT being released this year. It's just going to be a "modest upgrade that closely resembles the current iPhone 4"

Back to the regular scheduled programming.

I'm assuming the curent line-up of android handsets were a bit too much for the iphone 5, so they had to go back to the drawing board... or maybe there really wasn't an iphone 5 coming out this year and it was pure speculation from websites so they could get more hits.

Bah, I'm somewhat disappointed. Thought this could lead to the Nexus info getting leaked more quickly.

Seems like it's pure semantics. The 4" screen, faster processor, and upgraded OS is still coming this year. They know they're going to get blown out of the water spec-wise by SGSII and Nexus, so instead of calling it iPhone 5, they're saying it's iPhone 4 with a twist.

It's the iPhone 5. They're just too embarrassed to call it that.

Oy vey. You guys don't actually believe this, right? We've really sunk to the drivel level at this point. From poorly sourced Nexus rumors in a Nexus thread to questionable reports about the iPhone .. I kind of doubt "Wedge Partners" is a source of breaking news, and frankly I am surprised BGR ran it. Though, I must say with the strive for page views on these sites, nothing surprises me anymore ..

So much angst...it is pretty humorous to read all the grumping and harrumphing that every new rumor seems to spark. ;-)

As for myself, I was ready to "settle" for the SGS2 on VZW. Apparently we are going to get something "better", made by Samsung with an AMOLED screen and with ICS. That's what I want.

VZW dude is right. I WILL be very happy. It will be a nice way to celebrate two years since I got my amazing OG droid!

well for what it's worth, my sister's texted me saying that she's still hearing November 17 for Prime.

But it just struck me that she doesn't know whether it is the nexus, charge 2, ICS, or anything else.

Just that it's from Samsung, better than SGSII, and coming in November.

But again, that's just what she's hearing. Who knows if what people say to her is just as BSish as what we hear on the forums.

I'm so tired of waiting.

But I'll continue to hunker down while the BS flies.
