***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Does anyone care to speculate if the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will still get updates from Google? This is one of the best reasons to own a Nexus and I would hate to see Verizon screw this up too.

Speaking of which...those headphones in the Buffalo review seem pretty nice for bundled buds. Helluva lot nicer than came with my boy's iPod Touch.

All I care about is that it can get updates from CyanogenMod/AOSP. And unless Verizon somehow manages to lock it, that will be possible, nay, easy.

I would guess that it will get updates straight from Google. The pre-installed apps should not have any effect on standard updates. If they had customized the rom then it would be a different story. It seems like it should be pure ICS with 2 pre-installed apps. Nothing more.

I'm guessing we won't get it directly from google if the VZW apps are on there. I mean, unless VZW gives said apps to google and has google include them in their releases, which I seriously doubt.

It really sucks, but I have a bad feeling we'll be getting updates from VZW and they'll be slow (as usual) to release them.

I think we should start a poll on what date is the absolute latest you will continue to wait for the GNex. I think the median will give us a good idea of when this phone is coming out because I think somehow everyone w/ a Verizon phone is having their brain read and Verizon knows exactly what they are doing because they know your thoughts.

Even with the screwy launch verizon is still the biggest carrier in the US. Verizon will continue to get nexus phones, and those nexus phones will get prompt updates. Verizon, because it is so big, is going to make samsung a lot of money.

I guess if you're talking an incremental update, that might work. I don't know how google currently does it with other nexus phones. Do they push a full ROM update or just patches?

I don't plan to accept OTA updates. Hate for them to over write the kernel and ROM that takes this Plain Nexus to a place no man has gone before. :-)

Quick question for everyone: once I get my new phone and associate it with my gmail account, does google automatically start downloading your apps to the new phone? If so, how do I stop that from happening? I want to start with a clean slate. Thanks!!

New Verizon MAP Shows XOOM 2 On-Contract Pricing, Galaxy Nexus Release Date Mention (Updated) – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
Agreed... BUT

To everyone who has either lost trust in a Mod due to a date, or called a source a liar take note:

That Map clearly shows the Nexus to be released on the 10th. One of the rumored dates. In my mind and I think in most other people as well, it proves that Verizon itself does not fully know the release date. The device keeps getting pushed back and the sources are giving out the info as they are getting it. But it is changing, and Verizon is changing the game at the last second continuously.

So please be nice to the sources or they may leave us :(

Ty, but to tell you the truth my source isn't going anywhere. s/he told me. :)

Just noticed this; does anyone else find the volume rocker on this phone to be very low? It's almost right in the middle of the side of the phone. No me gusta, but I guess I'll deal with it and adapt to it.

Personally I think it is going to be better a little lower down on the phone. I had a Samsung Fascinate for a little bit and it was the same type deal with the Power on the right side and volume on the left but the volume rocker was too high on the phone. It sat almost directly across from the power button and when you tried to hit one, you almost always hit them both. I think the offset will help fix this.

I do not think we'll see a locked bootloader but then again this is Verizon. I would rather not have to root my phone. One of the major reasons for buying this phone is to get timely official updates from Google. It took Verizon long enough to update the OG Droid and that is stock. I'm just nervous that because of the 2 extra apps Verizon's forcing onto this phone it will affect us in a negative way.

Well the toro (code name for the LTE Gnex) is in the source, then even if verizon decides to push its own updates, it shouldnt be difficult to make roms for it. As long as they dont lock the loader, we should be OK ;)

I'm guessing the 2 Verizon apps will be removable anyway. In the case that a person leaves the apps installed and were to get a rom update, the apps would get installed back on the phone automatically after signing back in your Google account.

BTW, I've asked this before but didn't get a clear response:
For apps like Gmail and Music which are on the Market, will those pre-loaded apps be updateable? I would hate to have two Music apps... (which is the case on my HTC phone because Google's app doesn't overwrite HTC's app)

So now that there are lots of reviews (of the GSM version, anyway), how are people feeling about the size? I have to admit, I keep going back and forth.

I like my 4" Fascinate, and I've always thought 4.3" was borderline too big. When I first heard the GN was 4.65", I wrote it off completely. But then I realized that was a bit deceptive because of the extra real estate from the disappearing buttons, and decided it was probably OK. I even made a cardboard mockup of the phone to see how it felt in my hand, and it seemed OK.

But the reviews I've seen so far have been really inconsistent. Some say it doesn't feel any bigger than a 4.3" phone, while others say it's ridiculously huge.

I'm going to buy it either way, and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I have to admit I'm feeling a little bit anxious about whether the size is going to bother me. I'm most likely going to order online as soon as it's available, so I probably won't even have about opportunity to see it in person until I unbox my own.

Somebody reassure me...

Wondering if google will ever deal with verizon again Especially if the debut of ics on the nexus in the us occurs after the release of the LG thats coming with ICS. Also why do I need verizon's bua on the phone? I thought my contacts are saved/synced with google. I think the bua on my charge is screwing up my contact list anyways. I have a lot of contacts with extra phone numbers added that are work extentions that I never added and never called them on.
