***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'll probably be ninja'd on this but you don't need to unlock the bootloader to overclock, you just need root. That's one of the reasons why I don't get to worried about locked bootloaders because with root I can do pretty much whatever I want to do.

There we go! Good to know I was correct in saying I was able to overclock. I was able to manually manage how much power I wanted to use etc. and definitely pushed the phone its limitations enforced by Motorola. I did root the phone and installed Eclipse ROM, I think. It was a nice ROM.

Thanks for the clarification, but I thought overclocking could not be done either since that was set at boot. I certainly have not found a way to overclock the X2.

The way around it is that applications apply an over clock rate after the system boots. So if your phone is 1ghz, then it will boot at 1 and a application could then push it up to 1.5ghz automatically..

I always got a warning on my phone after boot that I would be over clocked in 90 seconds. That way if there were stability issues I could kill the app.

I was wrong to say the actual kernel could be changed though on a locked bootloader.

Then he needs to join this thread for reference material. :D

On another note, speaking of Joe Consumer, I think it's pretty crafty of Verizon to have let all that pesky excitement that happened everywhere when the Nexus was on morning shows die down.

Most fools would have pushed to capitalize on that free promotion and thrilling buzz, but not Big Red.

Oh Verizon, please don't ever change!
Verizon: We won't Early, we won't.

Funny thing is that what EVERYONE knows is sometimes wrong.

OT:

That is true as well. I've seen convictions overturned, and rightfully so.

What really, really galls me, though, is when crucial evidence is withheld from the jury for any number of "red tape" reasons. It's heartbreaking when you see the family get screwed because a judge didn't see "probable cause" for a police officer with 15 years experience and nothing bad on his record to obtain clear evidence of guilt.

Do some police officers "plant" evidence. That is much more rare than TV would have you believe. I loved "The Shield", but come on, seriously?

got to return it seriously...

Please enlighten me. I did not think it was possible to overclock without having the ability to overwrite the kernel, something that the locked bootloader prevents.

I'm no expert and not really competent on the subject, but I overclocked my DX (encrypted bootloader) with root and an app (the name of which I can't recall). Others can explain it far better than I.

Meh, disagree. Most vzw customers are very happy with their new rezounds and razrs etc. and dumbphones. Bottom-line they'll release the phone when they're ready to do so ... if ever. I think its clear at this point that the issue that delayed the launch today was specific to the Nexus. Not any other phone or device on the network. Whether its 4G, wallet, or whatever its the Nexus specifically. The conspiracy theories are self-evidently non-sensical. VZW has pooched the entire launch, but only we care.

we: early adopters, enthusiasts, google, samsung ... also Verizon cares but they'll handle it their big oblivious corporate way.

I agree. Unfortunately, the percentage of people in the market for new smartphones that even know this phone exsts is negligible.
