Thank you everyone for yor support, stories, and sympathy both public and private. Sorry I bummed everyone out this afternoon with such a sad subject, but I really wanted to get the word out about the rescue and the puppy.

BB could you maybe link my first post so everyone knows about the website?

I'll be lurking in the shadows, liking all the news and funny posts. Hopefully I'll feel up to joining in a bit more after the release.

I'm on the app till much later but if no one else does it before I get home I'll be happy to.

You are right about one thing. You dont know much about football. What you said just makes no sense, I am not even a fan of his or the Broncos, I was making a point that he knows how to win. by the way the guy is nothing like Paris Hilton

oh and surprise you are from the chicago area surprise

Enough said

OT

"He knows how to win" is the single most utterly BS throwaway statement in sports. It means nothing.

Did he come down with Acute Temporary Winners Amnesia in the loss?

My NexQuest

Had a free evening so decided to try a couple Best Buys/Best Buy Mobiles nearby, see what happens.

First Best Buy:

Asked CSR about the phone, told him I heard some Best Buys are selling them already, even showed him the picture of the receipt. He said he didn't want to risk his job over it (I wouldn't have asked him to), but he did offer to show me the device after a minute or two. Took a box (one of several) that he had opened already out of the cabinet and opened it and handed me the phone. Powered off, battery out. Really liked the feel of it, size felt just right coming from a Droid X. More ergonomic feeling. Surprisingly good build quality for a Samsung (I've always been a fan of Moto build quality, and while the GNex doesn't match that, it's definitely acceptable.) Returned the phone and thanked him and left.

In the mall next door there was a Best Buy Mobile. Stopped in and asked if they were selling the Nexus yet. They said they had gotten stock but weren't allowed to sell it, but interestingly enough they had a dummy unit on display with the rest of the Verizon phones with no tag beneath it. Manager reiterated that they had them but couldn't sell them.

Heading out I noticed a Verizon authorized reseller kiosk that was pretty empty. Walked up and asked the guy about the Nexus. He said he had stock but couldn't sell them (broken record here). He did say he could show me one and that Verizon never said not to (he seemed to think the whole thing was ridiculous.) Much to my delight he powered one on and handed it to me. Getting a feel for it with the battery was nice. Weight is pitch perfect, feels great in the hand. Examined the screen. Looking VERY close you could notice the PenTile effect, but it was so subtle. I would probably never notice it. Otherwise, screen looks amazing. Colors are great, blacks are inky. ICS is incredibly smooth and slick. The CSR did say he had heard that tomorrow would be the launch day. I asked where he heard that and he said from Verizon. I don't believe him, but I want to. Thanked him and left.

Lastly I went to the Best Buy nearest my house where I'll probably buy the phone (love me some Black Tie Protection.) The CSR I had talked with about it before was there. Showed him the pictures of the receipt from the person who got it at Best Buy. He predicted that the employee who sold the phone wasn't working there anymore. We joked about finding someone who wanted to quit Best Buy and having them ring me up, since they too had plenty in stock, but just jokes. Dang. Would have been nice to walk out with one tonight. Oh well, hopefully this week :)

It was good to actually play with and hold the device. It satiated me needs for a little while (like... tonight.) Now that I've held it and played with it, I'm sold. Sign me up.

Now if only Verizon would stop being so (expletive) (another expletive).

Tebow: Terrible QB, but, if you're denying that he is winning these games, you're crazy. Kid was 3-for-19ish before the 4th quarter. Then, he went like 17-for-23 or something like that. I am sick of hearing about him, but, really, his will to win is ridiculous. BTW, Tebow has more college national championships that Brady, Manning, etc. So... if you're saying he doesn't "win things" in that respect, as a first year starter, it would be hard.

(on another note, I really don't like Tebow the FB player. Tebow the person is fine. But, you should live in FL and hate the Gators... you learn to hate Tebow. Ugh, I am sick of it, but, he's got something, I don't know what it is, but, it's something).

Barber: Picked him up in fantasy. He had a great game for me (20 points). Wish he hadn't cost me 2 points with the fumble... and got that extra 35 yards and TD that were ahead of him if he hadn't coughed up the ball. How heartbreaking for the Bears though. I was pulling for them, not that I care, but, I AM sick of hearing about Tebow and didn't want to see that happen.

Wildcard: Why does Arizona start Kolb? Skelton is better, and actually likes to throw to Fitzgerald, who was on my bench today because Kolb doesn't throw the ball to him.

On topic:

I'd love to have a Tuesday web-release. I could order and have delivered to work. I have a long week coming up and don't know when I will be able to get to the store. :(

Off topic football:

Seriously tho, just because he is terrible for most of the game and then decent in the 4th quarter doesn't mean he is winning them the games. The defense is. If they had a decent qb they wouldn't need a come back every game. And marion barber basically handed them this game.

OT:
I meant philly defense had 9 sacks, I was complementing your team, not saying vick got sacked 9 times (although I wouldn't be surprised). lol

OT: Football
Ha! I thought you were trying to be a wisea**. Vick did take a beating today though. I won't deny it. He needs to learn how to slide, instead of falling forward head first. He is going to get his head taken off one of these days.

OT:

Sooo...was anyone lucky enough to get a Touchpad from the eBay sale? I started the second they went on sale and STILL wasn't able to get one. I must have clicked "Buy It Now" 200 times... Ugh... Not a good start to the week.

Then again, maybe I actually BOUGHT 200 of them :eek::eek:

I got mine from Office Max the day they went on sale for $99.

OT: Football
Look I'm not going to comment on Tebow being good or bad- the guy "wins games". Now the story that is still yet to be told:
They changed the entire offensive game scheme to fit a college style. This REALLY worries me. For example- last year the "wildcat" was the thing. But guess what it did'nt stick around because COLLEGE game plans do not work in the NFL. Defenses are too fast to react, and once this happens the Broncos will be in a lot of trouble since they invested their entire season and game plan into one person on the team. I'm not saying this unorthodox way of playing in the NFL is bad, all I'm saying is whats going to happen when defenses adapt and start seeing exactly what theyre doing in film?

Edit: Now mix in some QB fundamentals into Tebow and let him become a decent passer (ie; Mark Sanchez) and now you have a really great gameplan with a lot of mixed play calling which will absolutely confuse defenses. Tebow doesnt have to be an all star passer, but the key is you cannot run 45 times in the NFL and expect other teams not to catch on.

Lucky you! I was not fortunate enough to get one that day... I went to bestbuy and they told me they sold out minutes after they got the sale email.

Was hoping to snag one on eBay tonight, but was not successful. The only thing that can make me feel better is getting a Gnex Thursday!

OT:

I dont disagree with you however by now they have enough film to be making adjustments. Tebow is not doing it all, their defense is very good, but there is no doubt that he has some ability, and he uses what he has.

With all due respect, I completely disagree with you. Not just about Tebow. Some QBs, when you're down in the 4th and you give the ball to (Eli, Peyton, Brady...), you feel good about your odds.

Situation: It's the Super Bowl, 4th quarter, you're down by 4, 3:00 to go.

Do you want Eli Manning, or, Donovan McNabb (in his prime)? I'd take Manning. He has shown me that when the chips are down, he has a knack for getting his team in the game. McNabb on the other hand, probably was a better overall QB in his prime, but, when the chips were down, he tended to choke.

you know... I'd probably take Eli over Peyton in that scenario as well. There is no question that Peyton is the better QB, but, Eli's game elevates in those situations. The same can be said for Timmy.

OT -- warning, this is a long and sad story about my absence over the end of the week. Please do read it though because I have a really important message at the end I want to share!
Friday was possibly one of the worst days of my entire life. One of our puppies, Lucy got very sick very quickly. I thought it was just from her vaccines, but after a nap with her Daddy, she wouldn't wake up so I rushed to meet them at the vet ER. She declined very quickly and suffered multiple seizures as we learned her liver was failing and so was the rest of her tiny body. She was only 7.5 lbs at 13 weeks while her sister Scout is a healthy and hearty 12 lbs. Lucy was also suffering from an extremely severe gastrointestinal infection, the worst the emergency vet said she had ever seen. We took her in around 4 and by 7, we had to put her down. We are devastated as you can imagine. I haven't stopped crying for more than 20 minutes since Friday night.
When we got home after, our first concern was our other puppy and how she would handle it, we started talking about when we might be ready to find her another sister. I realized that we didn't know the adoption status of two of their sisters (2 of the other girls and the 1 brother were adopted around the same time we brought Scout and Lucy home). Apparently Lucy's former foster mom had the same idea - she sprung into action and arranged for us to adopt one of them at no attentional charge. So yesterday morning, we bravely faced that decision.
When we saw the two girls, we realized how gravely ill Lucy had always been. Her growth was clearly stunted by whatever disease had destroyed her liver. They were big happy healthy puppy girls. We brought home one of them - we have named her Boo. She has been a blessing - she's literally perched on my shoulder right now as i lounge on the couch typing this. She's so affectionate and reminds us so much of Lucy - but she has quickly become a wonderful playmate and companion for Scout as well. Scout is still struggling somewhat. She whined liked I'd never heard her before when her Daddy just left, I can't imagine how sad she would be with no sister by her side.
It's going to be hard for a while, especially seeing Lucy's grave outside and seeing so much of her personality in Boo, but we feel so thankful that she chose us to be her parents while she was on earth. We are so blessed to have been able to give her sister a home too.

But there is still one of their litter mates left in foster care, so in dedication to Lucy I have made it my mission to find her a home for the holidays! And in the end, that is the reason for this very long post, so I hope you have made it this far!

Please have a look at Jambalya!!

If you don't live in Michigan, please pass this along to anyone you know who does! She is a healthy, happy, loving, energetic girl who is great with other dogs and cats. She seems to really like kids too and I bet would be the perfect first dog because she always wants to play. She is almost completely house broken as I understand as well. Jambalaya is about 13 lbs and 13 weeks old, so a bit bigger than the picture on her website. She is also all up to date on her shots (so she only needs one more round of boosters and a rabies shot this year). If you live in Metro-Detroit you may recognize the name of the rescue because they were some of the leaders in the Save Ace campaign.

Anything you can do to help me find this little girl a home would mean the world to me under these circumstances.

Also, not sure how to upload a photo? I'd love to show off the last one of me and Lucy so you can all see what a loving baby she was.

If you made it to the end, thank you for reading this. I guess my Gnex puppy photo comparisons will be a little different now.

I feel for you, and will be praying for you. I now know how truly painful losing a pet can be, we lost our previous dog (Osker) after he was hit by a car in front of our house. He was only 1 year old, but he was like family.

Nope. I kept getting those Ebay non-existent item errors. The one time I did get to a real payment form it refused to process it, redirecting me back to the error. Oh well...I did not really need it. I just thought it would be useful, but only at the $100 price point. Too much above that and the utility/$ is too low (for me, IMO, etc).

I agree with everything you said...except about Eli ;)

I went to Radio Shack on Friday to buy the phone because they told me it was available, but they could not sell it to me when I got there. They let me hold it for a few minutes though. They called me this morning because they thought that they could sell it to me and when I got there they again could not sell it. They let me look at the Nexus again though. So frustrating Verizon :(.

That's all very true. What I don't understand though is how he missed WRs by 10' in the first 3 quarters and then all of the sudden starts throwing strikes.

I hate it. It pains me to even come close to taking up for him, but, I can't deny that there's something going on.

I know it hurts, so take care of yourself and worry about a stupid phone some other time.

So I called my local corporate store just to ask if someone could let me know when they were told the official release date. She told me that all launches are first come first serve. I told her that was fine I just wanted to know so I could be there early. She put me on hold and when she returned she said she would put me on the calendar and call me when she received a release date. She said it was supposed to be this week but it was delayed for some reason. Then she said "by the way, I am allowed to hold one for you". She said it should be next week sometime "I think the 14th" she said. Which sort of sounded odd since I have not heard the 14th yet.

Anyway just my experience, nothing really new here.
