***Official "I will have my Droid X in my hands at such and such date" thread***

I think the resolution of the iPhone is really high, I just don't know that it is something you would really say looks that much better.

I have been fighting with iPhione users for the last six monthes about resolution, 854 x 480 vs 320 x 240 and they told me they could not see the difference or liked the iPhone screen better. I don't know that it matters when you get beyond a certain point, unless if you look at your device with a magnifying glass.

Well I can honestly say that when holding my Droid next to the new iphone the iPhone does indeed look more crisp. Especially when you don't zoom in on text. Easier to read IMO. Colors looked fine to me on both phones.

It's the same amount of pixels spread across a larger surface...common sense. The way I see it if the Droid doesn't look better then the iPhone then there's no way the Droid X screen is going to look better then the iPhone. When it comes down to it the thing most people will notice is the clearness of the screen and how sharp it can make an image look. Color accuracy contrast ratio and brightness really doesn't play a roll. All these displays are really identical in those terms what stands out is the sharpness of an image.

Just my 2 cents. Im still getting a Droid X at midnight on the 15th but I certainly don't expect the display to surpass or even equal the iPhone. Only time will tell though. I hope it does somehow...

Friends,

We have a zero tolerance policy. That means no rudeness, no offensive posting, no arguing, no name calling and no personal attacks of any kind. Hot debates about phones is good, calling each other trolls or ignorant is definitely not. Dems the rules. Please abide by them. Failure to do so gets folks disciplinary action or banned. Thanks! Carry on.

But all phones lose signal strength when you hold them and the bars you see on the phone isn't really the true strength of your signal.

Yes but first off no phone has it as bad as the new iphone and the x has a dual.antenna system which allows you to hold the phone however you want by switching the antenna so the one blocked by your hand becomes redundant.

I haven't seen the iphone 4 but considering netbooks and laptops have a similar resolution to these phones but much bigger screens we have to consider that a lower ppi isn't unacceptable. At this point I'll take a larger screen over more pixels because my poor eyes can't handle any smaller text. Good for Steve Jobs for having eyes good enough to make use of the retina display. I doubt I can. The reviewer in that article seemed biased to me toward apple.

The Inc blows away the other screens in Contrast yet somehow the iphone is still a winner with his arguement being that the iphone contrast is good enough for a TFT. Well the same argument could hold true about the resolution on the Androids. It's good enough. Same arguement holds for brightness with the X. What29 said it was too bright and he had to turn it down. The Incredible has workable brightness from my use; About like the Moto Q9. My Samsung Saga is horrible outside; worse than the Q1. Actually the Saga has lots of issues. Slow gps. Painful keyboard. Horrible touch screen. Lots of lockups and data corruption issues. But it's still the best phone I have as a back up.

<flamesuit on> The ipod touch (1G and 3G) has a pretty good screen outside. The iphone 3 is probably the same one. It's quite usable. It's my pda of choice until my replacement Android shows up. I loaded the ios4 on the one ipod that could take it. I'm generally unimpressed. Now it can do the same stuff the 1G did when I jailbroke it.<flamesuit off> When comparing the Incredible's bigger screen and good resolution next to the ipod there's no doubt that the Inc is better overall. The X with the better outside viewing and size will likely be miles ahead for me.

I just saw that Skyfire 2.0 is out with tabbed browsing. I don't have an Android phone to test it at the moment but there's a hold over on flash until it is embedded with Froyo. I also read that the X browser reflows text if you double click but only not if you pinch. Also Dolphin HD reflows and can be added. Another aid to my eyes.

Ill stick with the x and its supposed locked bootloader, custom roms arent that big of a deal to me. the samsung could have delays just like the incredible and touch wiz just doesnt appeal to me

<flamesuit on again> My understanding is that the iphone folks are actually complaining that they loose too many bars when they grab the phone. Apple responds that the formula for calculating how many bars is wrong. Either way the silly iphone users don't even know what they are looking at or what one bar means vs five. The real testing reviews I've seen say that the iphone 4 can hang on to a signal at -113db which is better than any previous iphone. The problem could be that Apple might be covering up the fact that grabbing the antenna may attenuate the signal more on the iphone 4 and get beyond the -113db easier and drop the call.

Either way we are lucky. Dropped calls on Verizon are a non event for me.

If it does hold a signal at -113 thats real good. I need to test my Droid now.......So far I have tested it up to -102.

U know how I gotta hold my Motorola Droid for the signal to drop? I have to cup both my hands around the bottom of the phone and squeeze like I'm trying to smash a walnut.

Yea, all phone probably will lose signal strength if held a certain way.....the thing is how easy or hard is it to make that signal drop, lose that signal......

hey what29....can you confirm if you can play media from your SD card such as movies through HDMI on a tv? media that you have transfered from your pc to the sd card....im not sure if you got the HDMI cable or not

Another little tip i found out over the weekend: if you use pinch to zoom on the browser it does not always resize the text, but after you zoom in just double tap the screen and it resizes automatically without zooming in anymore. pretty neat little feature. wish pinch to zoom did it by itself but a simple double tap is not too hard.

Yea I meant to post that; one of the zillion reviews I listened to over the long weekend noted this as an 'official' feature carried over from the droid.

Btw after a week of ownership do you have any complaints or nit picks? How has the form factor worked out? The only 'complaints' I can generate so far (not owning one) is some of moto's menu are too layered compared to htc sense; is it actually an issue in use ?

Well it's here, I've called Verizon and it has not been activated prior to me activating it and I'm all set. Are there any specific photos that people would like to see of the phone? It really isn't that much bigger than the Incredible, in fact I don't see why some people have been complaining about the size. On a side note Verizon was able to get me a Body Glove rubberized case sent out today and I'll have it tomorrow. I'll post a few pics in a little bit.

Here is a pic of the phone for now.

Is the bootloader locked down to requiring a signed rom? This is all that I care about right now... Being that I do not an an android phone I have no idea of how to check this.

I should have signed the bottom on my post...Steve Jobs sent from my iphone4. :D I was hoping the rolled eyes people would know I was joking with that pathetic response from Apple.

I have zero complaints about the phone. Form factor is great. I tried to use my wifes incredible and that thing looks tiny. Swype is much better with the bigger screen. The battery improvement is a perfect compliment to the phone. I truly an very satisfied with this device and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone

Someone is reporting that the internal 8g isn't accessible by the user and is for apps only. Can you confirm? It seems like a huge waste of memory if ti is only accessible for apps.

Thanks

Thank you very much for the comments. Did you stick with the stock launcher or switched? Just curious; I would likely stick with stock for a while from what I've seen the only real complaints I have is that the resizable widgets are kind of ughly so if i use the resize feature I might live with it else dump em; and the menu system for a lot of the apps are too layerd (compared with htc sense); guess I would have to change the apps to address that (if it is an issue in usage). I'm not saying htc sense is a great thing just that the flat menu system seems to be more my style as it is a bit quicker to get where you want to go.

Hopefully someone with the phone can answer this sooner than later.
