*** Official Motorola Droid X Pre-Release Thread***

So I talked to a guy at a Verizon store today asking to pre-order the Droid X and he told me pre-orders begin 10 days before it's released [which means July 5th]. I would've done it at Best Buy but I was out of money.

So July 5th is the day.

I was at a Verizon store last night and was told that there for sure won't be any pre-orders. The employee even went and double-checked with the manager who seemed very certain there would be no pre-orders.

Then, this morning I went to a different Verizon Wireless store and was told that they aren't taking pre-orders right now, but she took down my name and number and said they'd call me as soon as they start taking pre-orders (if they do).

I have no idea what to believe is accurate at this point.

Ok, one last time: there will be NO pre-order done through corporate VZW. If a store is doing a pre-order, they are a re-seller, and cannot do NE2, early annual upgrade, early smartphone upgrade, or any of that stuff

So where does everybody think will be the best spot to score accessories for the Droid X? VZW corporate stores or Best Buy? I have a feeling that if I go get the phone at BB then go to Verizon if BB has none then VZW sales reps will either say "we're sold out" or "sorry, only for Droid X purchasers". LMAO, how much you want to bet this happens to all us BB pre-order customers?

Actually I pre-ordered through a reseller, and they honor NE2 discounts. Some of them do, and some of them don't.

I just called and cancelled my order for an Incredible. I asked the csr if they were going to be allowing pre-orders for the X on their website and she said they should be and to check back in the beginning of July, she also stated the X will be BACKORDERED. I was like "what?!" I know the csr's are generally in the dark about most thing so I don't know how seriously I should be taking this. Has anyone else heard anything like this? And if it's true, wtf Verizon, WTF?!

Ha no. There's no way for them to know where you got it from, and accessory sales are actually a huge focus of the sales process so they'd be more than happy to sell you a few.. I'd recommend getting there early, or getting them online..

Customer service knows NOTHING haha- it's usually better to go to a store for stuff like that.. No pre-order and definitely not back-ordered

So given no pre-orders, if you order online on July 15th, when is the likely date that the Droid X would get to your house? Are we talking a few days? or a few weeks? If its less than a week then I can wait it out.

Ok, you MAY be right but won't you feel a bit foolish if VZW does start pre-orders on the 5th? Why so insistent when others, including me, are hearing otherwise? I don't mean to be argumentative but what's your point?

Well because there was a screenshot of a verizon intranet page that said no pre-orders as of this time.

I saw that. If there's one thing I've learned after 6 months on this and other forums, nothing's for sure until the phones are in our hot little hands. I appreciate your input though.

There are only 3 things in life that are certain:
Death, Taxes and Verizon employees knowing less than you do!
I stopped at a Verizon store yesterday and asked about the availability of the Droid X, and then I mentioned that I was disappointed about the phone not havaing a front facing camera. His response was "Of course it has a front facing camera". When I repeated myself he then told me that he just went through training on the Droid X and that the trainer spent a lot of time explaing the 1.3 meg front facing camera. I then had him go online and look up the specs, at which point he said " I guess the person doing the training was misinformed".
So is this a case of the blind leading the blind. Who is less informed, the sales people or the supervisors doing the training.
And this is just one example of the wrong information I have consistantly received from several different Vz locations.

Verizon reps not knowing what they are talking about? No way, lol. Yeah when I talk to a rep I usually take anything they say with a grain of salt.

BTW, if you are a member of BJ's Wholesale Club, there is a coupon in their July book which gives you a $50- BJ's gift card if you get any Android phone with a 2 year contract. Now, the coupon clearly says " For new accounts only, excludes renewals and upgrades". However, the Verizon employee said if I got the phone there he could get me the gift card even though I am a current Vz customer and would be upgrading and renewing my contract. I think this may be another case of him not knowing what he is talking about, but it may be worth a try.
And, since these are Vz corporate stores in BJ's, you do get the NE2 credit also.

Not sure if this has been asked/answered yet but here it goes. Does anyone know if on the home screen and you turn the phone will the home screen turn? It isn't really a big deal to me, but it would be a nice feature.

I know launcher pro does that. Sorry, not sure about the stock launcher it runs

It'll be available right away, so overnight or 2-day shipping

They would have told us by now. I will personally ship you my X if Verizon does a pre-order.

Weather they know what they are talking about or not if you talk to them make sure they note the phone call and what they told you. If it's on record they generally honor it one way or another even of what you were told turns out to be wrong.

I just got an email from Verizon customer service. After doing a little begging and pleading, I was able to get my NE2 date moved up to July 15th. Can't wait!!!
