Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Isn't this the 3rd time a Galaxy-S II phone came through the FCC with AT&T bands? First was for the international version. Second was for a version with tegra-2. Now this time has an AT&T model number but the number is in the 700 range... That usually marks it as a mid-range phone... Hopefully it's just AT&T resetting numbering schemes.

If it is coming out on the 12th-15th, we should know for sure in a few days.

AT&T Rep told me that they usually receive the release date 1-2 weeks before launch. Let's hope so!

My wife works at the att flagship store in the Detroit market. Whenever a new phone will be released the store receives a working model for the sales team to familiarize with for a week or two before release. The store just received the Thrill yesterday. They haven't gotten the Attain yet therefore it will be a minimum 2 weeks from now before its released. They also do launches on Sunday's. Ill will post here when she receives the Attain and will be getting mine soon after. :)

I'm really close to caving in and getting the S2(OG) even if the carrier's costumer support is crap.

We have had far better customer support from att than sprint...

I have found it best to call late late at night. They have been very helpful everytime...and at really odd hours too haha. I was impressed.

i think (s)he meant getting the unlocked Euro gs2. which would be unsupported by either AT&T or Samsung (unless you mailed it back to your retailer and they sent it off to samsung.

Well the Infuse gets returned today and back to the iPhone 3G I go till all this craziness gets figured out.

I stopped by an AT&T Kiosk yesterday afternoon at the Fort Walton mall in Florida and the rep had no clue about a Samsung variant of the Galaxy 2 coming to AT&T. As a matter of fact, he went behind his computer and puched buttons for a few minutes...just to tell me that they weren't even sure if it was coming at ALL.

Obviously its coming...we've seen the FCC papers. It's just a little telling about this whole cluster muck....when the guy that gets paid to know the info not only doesn't know anything about it....but says its probably not coming when it obviously is.

I meant Claro they've had the GS2 for more than a month(even got to play with it). Sorry for the confusion.

It happens in every wireless carrier store, not just AT&T. The store people have no idea on the upcoming phones until the last moment. They are not given info on new phones any better than us on this forum. Actually folks on forum like this are a lot more knowledgable on that. Their job is to sell the phones on store display right now, not talk about future phones.

Exactly. My mom was trying to be helpful, so she asked a salesman in an AT&T store about this crazy "Galaxy II something" phone her daughter was so excited about over the weekend. Now she's worried on my behalf that I won't get my phone soon because the salesman didn't know anything about it. I don't think she believed me when I told her the salesmen NEVER know anything about what's coming.

Well my captivate took a swim last week and is doa. I am using an old nokia flip phone until the attain comes out. hopefully I do not have to wait too long.

People that want a 3D phone will get the 3D phone. I don't think Attain will affect that phone TOO much. It kind of has its own niche.

my thoughts exactly....

the push back of the thrill is all around confusing.

gameloft and lg have a huge 3d gaming dealio going on august 10th...surely att would want to get the thrill out prior to that.

I am still digging...but the event is being pushed on gamelofts facebook page

Just some useless thoughts here but...

I will be completely dumbfounded if in fact the Attain is released at the same time or especially if before the Thrill.

I mean, as said before, the Thrill has been announced and was supposed to have been released by now...while nobody really has any concrete evidence the Attain is coming this month. (OK, so we have the Samsung CEO or whomever that was quoted as saying August but nothing more). Why they would suddenly sneak in this 'World Beater' phone before the Thrill makes no sense to me. If I was LG, I'd be wanting the Thrill out NOW to get a jump on the SG2.

Maybe it isn't LG's fault at all...I have read that the Thrill delay could be due to ATT saying they would have Android 2.3 on all devices in 2011...so they may be upgrading it from 2.2 before release.

I thought the Thrill would have its own "niche" market as well...until I found out it was being introduced at a $99 dollar price point. Sure, it has 3D but it is not like you have to use it all the time. Its just a neat bonus, and with that phone having high end hardware and getting great reviews it has suddenly put itself right next to the Attain on my "want" list. I can afford a $200 dollar phone, but I'm not a heavy user, and also if I can have nearly the same performance for half the price plus 3D....it sounds very tempting.

That said...I think I'd still rather have the Attain; 1) If it comes out remotely soon and 2)if I can get my hands on one through Amazon, Walmart, Target (and keep my same talk plan) for $150 or less it will be my choice. If its is $200 or more..I'm not sure what I'll do.

You got to be kidding. Same thing happened to my E71 and I'm using... yeah, a Nokia 6650 flip, hoping and praying that the ordeal will end soon and ATT will decide to feed me a real phone.
I still have the $15 unlimited data for nonsmartphones. I got away using the E71 because was bought from Amazon. Does anyone know if it's possible to stay with that plan if I buy a 4G phone from a third party? ($600 on a phone... am I crazy or what?)

I'm beginning to think that Captivates came with an 11 month suicide program. Mine got wet last month and died :( Back to ye olde flip phone for me too.

It's always a roll of the dice to try and get away with a smart phone on a feature phone plan with AT&T. My understanding is that it's much harder to get away with it on phones that AT&T offers on contract even if you don't buy it from them because they're more likely to recognize the phone ID.
