I have a mac, so I used a friend's pc. I don't use pc's often so it took me a while to download all the files and figure out where they went and such, but the directions are very good and accurate. I did not get confused at any point, again because the directions were so good, and because I read them very many times.

Preparing and downloading the files took the longest for me. Once everything was downloaded it took maybe 12-15 minutes from when I opened Odin till my phone rebooted.

Well there seems to be a new 2.8 version. I assume it works good but I am downloading it now. There is a Superclean thread on the xda website that has all you could ever want.

Once I have some free time I shall be rooting once and for all

Does the Root Froyo work FULLY? As nothing needs to be tweaked or messed with(Camera, BT ect.)? Thats the same with superclean. I would LOVE a completely de-bloated and clean phone. Just me, ADW EX and all the customization I can do

I agree.....gonna head to rootsville.

Unless it's a beta, which aren't even being used anymore, any 2.2 rom is a good daily driver :) We even have Gingerbread we can use, but it won't be ready for some time until the devs start working on it.

So far, every EB01 based build has been solid enough for a daily driver for sure. More solid than stock 2.1. Noticeably more solid. Noticeably faster. Noticeably more functional.

Follow the guides. Follow them well, don't skip any steps, and if you have any more questions, don't think they're stupid ones, just ask regardless. We'll tell you if they're stupid questions. :D And then we'll answer them anyways!!

2.8 is flawless I haven't found a problem with it. The video player in 2.6 is better IMO and it doesn't include nusance voice dialing or the touchwiz musicplayer. But those are easy to add back on after the fact.

Looking at installing SuperClean 2.8 myself.

However, I can't find any documentation that I would consider remotely complete as to how to do this and what I'll need.

I have EA28 right now. Do I need to flash with anything more than the 2.8 image (different kernel, radio)? And how do I flash - Odin, or do I need Clockwork?

I guess I'm not going to move forward until I find concrete answers.

Edit: New Issue - can't get into clockwork recovery... won't go past stock recovery screen (gets stuck at the apparently dreaded orange exclamation point).

Edit 2: got into CWM and tried to install 2.8, but on boot I'm getting force close for both gapps and system (and, perhaps not a coincidence, don't get a signal). Back to stock -.-

Edit 3: Apparently using clockwork directly on the stock image works. That was easy o.O

i would like to root and have a superclean phone. i actually like the way touch wiz works. just still super scared not of ruining my phone cuz everyone says how hard it is to brick your phone more of just messing it up for a while. i like my phone now and dont really have any problems to report. i would just like to use someones phone who was rooted to see the difference between my phone and their phone. anyone on here from pittsburgh haha?

Those two remarks cancel each other out.

You need to sell your Fascinate and get an iPhone.

:D Just messin' with ya.

But if you like it, and the only thing bothering you is the list of apps in the app drawer, just grab one of those app hiding apps from Market and forget about them. There's enough memory for it to function extremely well, bloatware and all. ;)

Yes red we've been telling you this for a month now ;):p

I think most people don't really know what rooting is and does to the phone. By itself, rooting is simply the process of, using an expoit, to copy three files to the phone: su (which elevates the user to root when needed), superuser.apk (which is the interface that asks the user if it is ok), and busybox which contains commands not normally found in android but are usually in linux.

Reversing root means you just remove those three files. No harm done. Potential harm happens when things get more complex. Installing custom recoveries, roms, and debloating all add to the complexity.

Noob question, so when you root you dont need a rom, cuz when searching around rooting i always saw people talkin about ROMs and with all those tons of ROMs out there i never rooted cuz I thought, well im gonna have to pick a ROM and i hate making decisions cuz they all look so good....

Riddle me this
ROOT is just like Unlocked Touch Wiz or whatever was previously on the phone [i assume it doesnt erase anything on it?]

and

a ROM is a WHOLE UI replacement on a rooted phone like what a Touch Wiz replacement like, say ADW Launcher/Launcher Pro...etc is to an unrooted phone? Correct? I dont ness need a ROM when I root, but ROMs are like great big UI face lifts

yep basically you got it. You can root and stop there. If you only want to run root apps you are done.

If you want a little bit of a makeover, but still want it to be simple, root, and then install ADW.launcher (the free one) if you're not a big touchwiz fan - which I'm not. You can have one drawer with all the apps, and then another drawer with only the ones you actually want to show up. It's a more customizable and smoother launcher than TW, and gets rid of some of the lag that TW sometimes has.

Following that process, you'll be able to use root apps, like root explorer or wireless tether, and you'll have a launcher you like more than touchwiz, unless you LOVE touchwiz.

So I got a fascinate last weekend, lov'n it (first android).

Rooted it last night, which was a little scary. It all worked. I got the Superclean v2.8 on it, and I love the debloat. The all in one link process using Odin was dead easy. Only problem I had was that my desktop stopped recognizing the phone when it booted to download mode, had to use my laptop.

Only issue I'm running into is that some programs don't connect well. For instance, I use Medscape ( a drug reference app) for work, and it won't connect to download new stuff on either 3g or wifi.

Also, the app market won't run on the wifi, but will on 3g.

The wifi works when I'm just browsing the internet, or even downloading apps that I picked on the pc. It is perplexing.

I would just back everything up and reinstall through oden again.

Was your usb cable hooked up in front of the computer? I had trouble with that then I plugged it in the back and all went smooth.

Well it was a side port on the laptop that worked.

On the desktop, the front port worked when I first plugged the phone in to root it, it was only when I booted into the manual download thing.

I got an error down at the bottom saying windows had stopped a device that wasn't working. It offered to update drivers, but I was leery of installing things that I wasn't sure of.
