Official Swype on Incredible discussions

I just installed it and am having a problem I don't know if it has to do with swype. My screen won't timeout anymore and turn off. It just sits there and doesn't even dim. This didn't show up untill I installed this new beta. I had a unoffical version before and it didn't have the same problem.

I went back into my screen time out settings, made sure it was still on one minute(or selected it again), rebooted my phone and that seemed to take care of the issue. Did you get yours resolved?

Got my beta invite last night and set it up! I'm loving it! The only things I don't like about Swype are:

1. No mic button, which I really really like to use.
2. The #-style numbers. I prefer the 123456789 row like on the traditional keyboard.
3. When single-press typing (like for passwords, which Swype cannot, and should not predict), the button doesn't appear above your finger-press (to show you which key you hit) unless you long-press it. I wish it would anyway.
4. No .com button.

I think I'm going to try to get timed tonight seeing which method I'm faster with: standard keyboard or Swype. I'm certainly loving it though!

Pretty much agree with 1,2 and 3. Not deal breakers for me though.

As far as #4, not the perfect solution, but you can swype .com, .net, etc.

I just got the beta version through them and I have to say it is pretty smooth, but I think I like the stock keyboard better.

I'm am very impressed with how swype's predictive text is working. Blows stock away imo. You can get away with many more mistakes. You don't have to be precise, not even close. Expect to pay for this once it hits the app store. I'm in line first!

Just curious what skin the beta version of Swype that everyone is downloading is using. My trial period ran out on Tuesday, but I was able to find another version on one of the developers forums. It is the one with red letters and Droid Does on the space bar. I think I'm going to stick with it until it quits working or there is a paid version.

I'm trying to decide what to do too. I have that same one (with Droid Does on the space bar) and signed up for the official beta last night. But with all these problems installing, not recognizing etc etc I'm afraid to uninstall this one for fear I won't be able to get the official beta working and be swype-less!

Does anybody know if there is a difference between the two?

Is there anyway to like minimize the keyboard? Like with the stock keyboard you can press the down arrow and it minimizes. Is there anyway to do this with swype because If I am doing a quick reply with handcent or if I am sending a message on facebook it will often times cover the button that says send, and if I turn it landscape on the internet it will only show what I typed not the website. So I'll have to keep scrolling up and down until I get it to go down enough to see the post button. I don't know if that made sense?

Press the Back button.

Here is the error message I get:
"the swype package you installed is configured for another device. please contact swype." Any ideas what is going on? Thanks

I had this happen when it froze trying to register the Swype Beta. It installed but wouldn't register. I went to try and use it and got that message.

Hit menu button, hey there is the mic. So you have to press one extra button, at least it's there.
The Menu button is dependent upon the application which is open, not the keyboard. So yes, this is true in Handcent, but since I use Google Voice for free text messages instead (and like to use the voice input for other stuff, like notepad apps), the lack of it on Swype is disappointing. They should make it the long-press for the SYM button.

Of course, they might be holding out on some features for the formal release, but then that partly undermines the point of a beta. We shall see. If the number pad stays in # shape, and there's no mic button, I won't be putting money down for it.

1. Uninstall Swype and the Swype Installer
2. Go to MySwype Swype | Text Input for Screens log in and then press Re-Send Beta Invite Email.
3. Re-Download the Swype Installer and reinstall Swype.
4. The License Failed pop up should go away and it will work now!

Hope that helps

I completely agree with all 4 points. Much easier to use while bouncing around in a car (not while driving, but as a passenger). The only real issue I have had is spelling. If I'm spelling a big word and I have to stop and think about it swype sometimes screws up the word. Does not help that my dyslexia sometimes kicks in and I get lost while spelling a big word and forget where I am. Depending on the cost I may or may not keep it. Sub $5 I'll buy it. Over $5 and I'll walk.

to new users. Register now because it is only open for a limited time. Just downloaded it to an Eris so I know it works.

Read the directions -
Uninstall all versions of swype from your phone
Download the installer
Log into myswype and it will download the right version of swype
