Root One Click Root For The Desire?

I don't have a clue now. I partitioned my SD card, or at least I thought I did.

However, it's now saying it only has 14.3GB available when it's a 16GB card. It used to have 14.8 something or 15. something.
 
I'm confused now.

I think my SD card was partitioned, as I now have less memory showing than I did previously.

I don't want to partition it again, incase that messes this up further.

I am currently doing a format of the SD card in a caddy on my laptop with quick format unticked.

Will this erase the partitions?
 
It looks like your partition was successful based on the size of the SD card but you can't confirm until you flash the new ROM with A2SD+ support. Put the ROM zip into the root of your sd card (ie. not in a folder) then go into recovery. Turn off phone > hold volume down and power button. Select recovery. let clockwork recovery load up. use the trackpad to select install zip from sd card. then select the ROM that you put on the root of your SD card.

I'm now unsure what to do. I'm currently trying to remove the partition by formatting it (with quick format unticked) so I can start the partition again.
 
k maybe should take a step back. You don't need the laptop to format your SD card. Might just complicate things.

To format:
Phone settings > Sd & phone storage > unmount sd card > format sd card > once done > remount sd card.

Once formatting is done. Copy the ROM that you want to the ROOT of your SD card (if its leedroid yer fine cuz it has A2SD+ built into the ROM, if you use teppics rom make sure you also copy the A2SD+ mod to the root of the SD card with the ROM with init.d support
Once you done that, THEN Start ROM manager.

Scroll down, select "Partition sd card" select 512 ext and swap 0.
then your partition should be DONE.

I tried that but the size of the SD card remained at 14.3. I know it was a lot bigger than this before I wiped it and partitioned it.

Because I'm pretty sure my SD card may now have more than one partition on it. If I could reset it to its original state, I would at least know where I am if that makes sense?
 
Edit. Download gparted live cd, burn it to cd, boot into it. Mount sd as usb storage in recovery

Thanks to all those who helped me today. Much appreciated.

A whole day and all I've managed to do is root my Desire?! That's got to be some kind of terrible record, surely?!

I actually feel quite drained! Ha ha!

In a way, I feel glad that I've got it rooted.

However, due to the fact I now seem to have less internernal memory than I started with - mainly due to the apps I downloaded today to help back everything up - I feel quite disappointed in myself.

I did at least manage to remove the partition in my SD card, so I'll be ready to go again at a later date.

Even if people laugh their balls off at this thread, it will be worth it if it helps another person in the future! :D

I'm not sure if I'm better off or worse off for rooting my Desire.

I have no idea how to unroot it, nor do I know which version etc I was previously running. I was running 2.2 on a branded T-Mobile Desire. That's it.

Cutting a long story short, I've been a bit silly haven't I?! :D

Rooting doesn't change the version of your OS. I recommend taking up some more reading on the process of partitioning your SD card and flashing ROMs before you begin again. Remember, preparation is key and understanding fully what you're doing before you start and having the proper resources ready if you have any hiccups.

Of course the community here will help where we can but the most important thing is for you to be well prepped. ;)

To be honest, if there was a button I could click which would take me back to where I was before all of this occured, I think I would press it.

I just like things to be simple. I'm one for an easy life. :D
 
If you haven't flashed a rom yet, then it's still your original software, just rooted.

Menu>settings>about phone>software version.

Make a note of the details shown there.

Don't worry Johnny, you're getting there!:)

Technically you can, you made a backup in recovery you can restore that if you want since you're already rooted... BUT if you don't feel comfortable messing around in recovery yet, you can just leave it as is.

I think that would return me to where I am already? Basically running the same software as pre-root, but am now rooted?
 
If you have clockwork recovery and super user, yer rooted. Restoring your backup in recovery would restore your phone to its original state EXACTLY (includes, apps, data, settings) as it was before you created that backup.
 
Nothing wrong with taking all the time you need JB, took me about 2 hours to root (after reading and asking questions on the Forums for over 2 months!) then a full afternoon to flash LeeDroid (1 week after rooting, again so I could ask questions and be happy that I understood what I needed to do MYSELF). Add another few hours to get my apps and Homescreens back to the way I wanted, and you can see it's not a fast process the first time unless you are (a) danfrance's housemate and you've watched him do it a zillion times already, or (b) a complete fearless noob with money to waste on a new Desire after you brick the one you have :)

Worry ye not, it will be worth it!
 
Actually, my fiance complains that I never help her with her phone...

Gonna get a VillainRom on it shortly. Her Battery life stinks and she needs overclocking too.

Its just those damn SMS messages. She has 98684514898379862468765735 of them.
