Root Problem

I'm bummed I couldn't find that post! :(
I'll still look tonight and see if I can find the original post, and maybe you'll be able to fix it, then you can double fist the EVO! :D
Really glad you'll have a working EVO to run regardless. My wife still runs the old hero, she didn't like the wildhero Rom, had to flash back to liquid sense. Go figure. :)

Yea, they've got a stable Sense 3.5 rom going on over there now. Amazing how much development is still going on. Kernel development is still going on:D:p

Actually Andy this is the thread I originally read. I just had to read the entire thread through, and I found what I was looking for. Apparently this might or might not work. At this point, it's worth a shot. :o

I'm going to give this a shot when I have time. Nothing to lose now and if I can get it working, maybe I could get my money back.

I will update this thread and let anyone who cares whether or not this works. Not sure why the NV would cause this much trouble but oh well, hopefully it works:)

Anyways, new Evo rooted, partitioned with a class 10 sd card(see if this works better ocnbrze) and running newtoroot's newest release from last night. Smooth, btw:D

+++ for the comment to ocn :D

Good I was going to ask you if you would consider still trying to fix the old one. I figured there is nothing to loose and incredible knowledge to gain. I'm still very curious to what the issue is with that phone. Really whats the worse that can happen we brick it? Oh Wait its already bricked

Still have not had time to try and fix the old phone but I will report back once I do.:)

Too damn busy:D:eek:

I know what you mean boss. Started cleaning up the hedges and tree's around the house. This is all a weeknight/weekend project after a full day at work. I live in the boonies so lots of trees to trim

have you gotten any time to look at it yet? just curious

Not yet:( But I will definitely post when I do. Thanks:D

8 month old is sick, daughter's 7th birthday soon. Priorities:p But once I give this a try, maybe I'll have an extra phone to flash:)

So I've given the nv unbrick guide a go and for some reason the PC36IMG.zip that is in the rar file is not being recognized by my phone. But I will continue to investigate and see if I can find a solution:)

When You extract the rar does it give you a zip?

Poop, I had high hopes for that to work.

I kept getting these images of Andy double fisting evos and flashing different roms at the same time!!

In college we had something called candyflipping that was popular, that comes to mind. :D

thanx for the update andy. let us know if you get it going again.

Well funny thing is that I was able to run Football's 4.54 ruu in fastboot. It updated successfully but still the bootloop of death:(

When You extract the rar does it give you a zip?

Yes, it gives a PC36IMG.zip and then when I put it on the sdcard, it does nothing. I beginning to think that since I ran 2 different stock ruu's that my phone will no longer recognize the PC36IMG.zip's. I could be wrong though but I'm also reading that the NV got corrupted somehow and there may be nothing I can do to correct the corrupted NV.

Believe me granite, when I ran the Football's 4.54 ruu yesterday and it began to update, I did get a little excited:). Ok, I got a lot excited:D But to no avail, bootloop of death still happened:(

Again after more research, I'm beginning to believe that the NV got corrupted somehow and more than likely it was NOT the sbc kernel that would have caused this but it's a possibility that it is CM7 or miui caused the corruption of the NV. So........I will continue to look around and a few individuals on xda had some other thoughts as well and I'm looking into them now. Bricked or not bricked? - xda-developers

good info there at xda but i know you were on miui but im seeing more referances on bootloop and cm7,( IE Post #5 and #6 in the xda) That realy makes me hesitant to run it or any AOSP rom on my evo because it seems they are all based off Cm.
Funny thing is it seems to me that the kernel would be more likely to do damage by overclocking. realy wish there was a def answer.

that sounds like it would be BAD.

But on pc's you can upgrade bios, not sure what the mechanism for doing that is. I've downloaded them and done it before.

NV is typically "Non-Volatile" [memory]. They generally contain information like MEID/ESN/EVDO credentials, etc.

like an eprom vs an eeprom?

would seem to need some sort of voltage spike in the wrong place to affect that. would seem like the chip itself might be damaged in a case like that?

Make sense?

I wish I knew a definite answer because this would really help out anyone with this infinite reboot

just a shot in the dark but maybe a battery pull then try to flash.

No such luck

Read the XDA thread and sorry none of that seemed to work.

So, far nothing has worked:(

Now what's strange is now I'm able to flash older ruu's and hboot has reverted back to 2.10. I have now idea what the hell is going on with the phone but I'll continue to try different things and try to find a solution but I'm beginning to believe that there isn't one:(
