Root Project Elite v5! (ASOP Gingerbread)

I'm with you, Gunner - I've flashed nearly all of the GB ROMs on my OG Droid, and there's been at least one or two (or many) issues with each that keep me from running it for daily production. What's your overall impression of PE 5.1? Are issue negligible enough to keep it? I really want to run GB full-time but the various little issues pile up and it's enough to put me back on dew's Charity Froyo ROM each time...
I totally agree with you on charity froyo, that was the best rom i have run to date, well i think till now. Its only been 12 hours but wow this is one impressive rom. I have used all the UD, Pete, lyf, chevy, droidmod, jrummy, etc etc you name it. My favs for MY phone have been charity and LFY. This is my first shot at P.E., have always been a fan on GLD and his great advice so since he backs this room as well as LFY i gave it a shot and after running through 3 GB roms, this one blows the others away. Every rom i run tends to start fast, then i add widgets and bog down and redraw, etc etc. This one seems to have great batt life so far, great speed, little or no redraw with plenty of widgets running, thats without the Samsonite hack. So i must say a big thanks to the new king of the GB roms and great job all around.

I've already given a fair assessment of my opinion, but I did want to add that I've now had a chance to see what the battery life is, and it's as impressive as UD3.1 and LGB1.2 was for me.

My keyboard backlighting is working normally, as are the softkeys. I don't use any other mail app except for the stock gmail and email apps, so I couldn't comment on that (though, I should have probably tried K9 by now). I've yet to have a prob with 3G on this, but I suspect it will eventually. Not much of an issue, my airplane toggle widget has made it's way permanently to my home screen since going to GB. Also, there are some screen redraws for me, but they're not terrible.

Overall, I'd have to say that this is the best functioning (is that a proper way to say that, looks weird?) GB ROM I've used yet. It seems each one has a detrimental issue, but I haven't experienced one on this yet. Not to mention it has a theme that I love.

This is an excellent ROM. I have to admit I've fallen behind the curve; I stayed on Smoked Glass 9 for quite some time as I saw that every GB issue tended to have issues. However, the battery life, functionality, features and stability of this ROM blow me away.

Anyway, I have a quick question. Seeing as I haven't kept my finger on the pulse, does anyone know where the voice keyboard ran off to? Also, YankeeDudel, you would want to use, "most functional," as you're modifying the verb "is." I just thought I'd throw my grammatical two cents in there :)

I am going to give this rom a try. I currently liquid 1.3 and its great but always a sucker to try new roms.

Voice to text is included in this ROM and I believe all other GB ROMs. I know for sure it works, and works well, in the browser, MMS, Google Voice, Google Maps and Gmail.

Voice to text certainly works on this ROM, but Voice Search isn't included in the ROM file, since it's readily available in the Market, so you need to download it from the Market.

Thank you for the compliment about my advice, but you really got the gender wrong! ;)

This has replaced CM7 as my everyday ROM now. Really stable and fast, no redraw issues at all, battery is on par with CM7 and LGB1.3 running at 1000mhz. There are some things that are missing that CM has, but there are things that PE has that CM doesn't. I'm an ADW guy and the LP home screen is running so smooth that I don't want to mess with it, haha... I'm gonna be enjoying this ROM for a while, I can tell.

Where is my little MICROPHONE button on my keyboard? Does installing voice search put this back on? This is a HUGE deal breaker for me.

Dont know as mine is on there and didnt download voice search

A new update is available, which fixes some of the issues that folks were having with receiving text messages, etc., by allowing up to 3 custom apps to be locked in memory.

This is a partial update you can get from the Check for Update section of Elite Settings, but you should read the OP at the link below first.

You should not wipe before you install this update.

[ROM UPDATE]v5, v5.0.1 to 5.0.2 - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

I just realized that my .WMA files cannot be played. Also tried MinZing player, which I thought would play more media types. I think it started when I was on UD 2.5. Now converting my .WMA files to .MP3. Anyone else? Thanks.

Gunner, open up a terminal app on your phone and type the following in:

su
echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop
reboot

...

Yep, I've used this trick in the past on other ROMs. But prefer to avoid it unless necessary.

Since updating to PE 5.01, the home screen redraw has improved actually.

Yeah, same here - in fact, PE 5.01 is the first GB-based ROM I *haven't* had much redraw/lagginess with. Getting ready to install 5.02 in next few minutes. Very, VERY happy with this ROM -- going on Day Three and have had no issues whatsoever. Think it's a keeper... :D

Yo, definitely give it a go. The only issue I've had so far is that once my batter level dropped from 50 to 20%, but it was after recording a 5-6 minute video, with flash on. Other than that, no redraw issues. I have 3 screens, not much on them (i choose to have the scrolling home bar at the bottom to have all my most used apps). No 3g drop. And no app force closures.

Ive been running it for about 5 days now. This rom is very fast too. and thats on the stock kernal. Nowadays the only reason to go out and get a different kernel is if your experiancing problems, not just to go and get it for shits n giggles.

Give it a try, and if not, just load your nandroid bu of ur current state rom.

Im still on 5.0! when you dl the .x rom update, do you lose any info or current phone settings? And theres no need to wipe right?

Anybody else having Bluetooth problems in the car ? I can makes calls but I can't hear the other person talking.
Also I had the GPS and music playing at the same time but whenever I go to the GPS screen the music turns off ? Really weird and has never happen with other roms.
