Root Public Mobile

Ok we don't have the software update tool for public mobile.it is only for boost.. we have an apk called software update.. it is the first time we have ota for our phones. Really to get up to date you should only need to go to the software update app. But some people are having difficulty with this... it shouldn't say your up to date if your build number is b06. That is strange.
Not sure this will help, but have you tried clearing the cache/data for the software update apk? Similar things were reported working for boost when we were awaiting the b11 update. May be worth a shot.

edit: additionally, I wonder if his "partial update" flashed the new partitions for b07 and now he is "up to date". If you have some b06 partitions maybe he can use the update apk. Just 2 cents lol

Well I had him install the stock Rom so all cache and data was wiped... but it's worth a shot...

I have only the update zip file on the phone SD now and that's where I'm at.

I'm going to go into a bit of detail here on each item as I downloaded and attempted to find how to install on the pc.

First, the USB drivers.

From this line on the opening post
Use the c++ tool junkie2100 made for us and make sure you have the DRIVERS installed and follow the instructions on his thread.
I clicked on DRIVERS and got the ZTE USB drivers file and installed, and I can see them on the pc programs list.

Next, the stock recovery from this line
Useful information:

HERE is the stock recovery flashable zip.
I got that (PMN 861B07 recovery zip).

It opens up to show META INF and tmp file folders and they open up to folders within folders.

Next, from this line
HERE, (MIRROR) is the stock ICS_PMI_B06 Stock ROM. It installs only on the stock recovery.
I got the 2013082215594642 zip file which opens up to show more folders, too.

Thanks much, sorry for being so backward.

Hi. I'm a "he" and I thought it might be steep learning curve for me when I signed up, hence the name. It's at least a bit of fair warning, eh?

I tried to get a bit of general knowledge first, but I became concerned that following along those threads for general knowledge might be misleading for me in the end due to specifics and also boost/mobile/860/861 differences

Ok I'm going for a hike with my girl...later on tonight well sort you out :)

Hey smartman, while you were trying out jb from the boost sequent for the public mobile sequent you said there was a screen issue. It flickers? Now does it do that constantly or when you wake the device up?

Actually it does it while I'm not touching the screen while it's awake... Do you know a work around? This is because I can't use the jb partitions...

interesting, no i was just unlocking my sequent recently and every once in a while maybe if i do it fast enough/ unintentionally the screen will show up like a tvs grainy output when nothing is connected to the tv. then it flickers back to the OS unlockscreen all under 1 second. thought it was something like this you we're expericencing but a little bit more extensive.

I'm trying to...the difference is that on the n860, we where all on the same Android version. But on the n861, we are not.so it's proving to be a lot more difficult... but I'm trying... :)

Hey smartmanvartan, any updates on your "nameless ROM"? SMV's Stock Deodexed (1.0-b7), there i named it. lol

I read once someone had tweaked their rom to make wifi & 3G scan cycles faster. Can you help me out with that? What's the impact on the battery? If making it so that it can be toggled is impossible and the battery drain would be enormous then forget it, not worth it.

Never did any programming other than HTML LOL! and that was 6 years ago :S But decided to get my hands dirty because I'm too picky.

I'm currently working on a black & blue stock mms app. Can't stand the sms apps. I don't know why everybody go nuts over them.

I'll open a thread for it when it's close to it's release.

Thanks again smartmanvartan for all the work you put into this, your deodexed rom saved me hours of reading and tweaking.

Glad the Rom was of use to you:)... can't wait to see what you will have for us...as for updates on the Rom, I'm working on a few things right now and the sequent is on the back burner....but I'll pick it up again soon! :)

Okay, found something interesting, maybe there's a fix for it. Last night after installing the B07 rom for public mobile, I noticed cmw was gone from recovery, altho it was still on my sd card. The stock recovery returned I didn't think a big deal of it and used junkies tool to put it back on, and than before bed I was in my file manager and saw vcremoveboot-cwm.zip in the root of my sd card. After booting into recovery mode I noticed AGAIN cwm had been removed. I deleted the zip, I can reinstall cwm anytime I need it, it just gets annoying that it keeps getting removed. Anyone else have this problem?

Check to see if you have these files:

/etc/install-recovery.sh
/recovery-from-boot.p

if so, delete them.

Nope, just checked not anywhere on the phone. I ran the junkie tool again and installed cwm and rebooted the phone back into recovery and it was gone again lol

Yes that is exactly what is happening... the files are in your system not your sd card... that is why the stock recovery is installing itself...

Also I'm getting a new motherboard for my n861 so i will be resuming development for this phone soon! :)

Thanx, and that's awesome can't wait to see what u come up with.

I reinstalled cwm and root and it worked perfectly, also, I dl'd the B09 rom and installed the partitions before flashing and everything was working fine till today I noticed no SMS to other phones but it will send a text to my textplus number. The truth is I don't think it was working even in the b07 rom I dl'd from the first post in this thread.

the b09 rom is for boost so mms will not work... we have b07...if you flash the stock b07 firmware(partitions) in the first post as well as the b07 rom in the first post of this thread and you still have texting issues, remember that a cache wipe is always a good idea... :)

That didn't work, I tried wiping the cache and the delvik cache, installed the partitions and the b07 rom and still a no go.

I wanted to flash the original b06 rom in the first post but it can only install on stock recovery, and I'm not sure how to do that.

Okay, got the b06 working, but still no sms. What do I do? I fear I may have lost it forever, since my backup was b07 and it didn't work than.
