I usually preface said suggestions with something along the lines of, "stupid question," or "I'm required by law to ask certain questions"...

My son did that to me... I told him point blank that since my employer does random drug tests, that he was endangering my job with his smoking. He still does weed, but not around me nor at my house.

I hate seeing that kind of thing on a site like this. Dont these people realise that whats written on here BECOMES a google search result lol.
I just proved the point nicely in a thread where someone said it. Did a google search for the topic and the AF thread was top of the list. Now imagine doing a google search, hitting the top link and being told that "google is your friend" lol :screwy:

It is a double-edged sword... but when I do a Google search for a question and three or more solutions pop up in the results, then that tells me the poster was to lazy to even do a basic search.

Sometimes I just tell them to "using your favorite search engine, enter the model number of your equipment and [specific search terms]."
 
Yeah true but if we know the answer and are taking the time to reply, surely its better to give the answer which will help the user, bring the site more hits and in turn make it better?
Or if we dont know, just dont reply.
Must admit i can be lazy about googling things before searching or asking on here but i prefer the type of answer i get on here and trust it more :beer:

Because I don't spoon-feed.

It is one thing if I am assisting an ESL person or a neophyte, it is entirely different when some ass of an American rolls through expecting me to magically reach through the intarwebs and solve his problem without so much as a please or thank you.

And no, this type of behavior/attitude is not exclusive to Americans; it's just a defining characteristic of a lot of us.
 
Yeah i wouldnt go and do a google search for someone but if i remembered being on a good site/page that explains it better than i can, id find it n post the link.
A lot of times, people dont know what search terms to put into google but if one of us reads their post, we can figure out what it is they need far better than google algorhythms can :beer:

Hate that github sucks so much. I have to spend like a full hour just repo syncing and having it spit out constant errors.
