I almost got hit by another car again riding to school. Don't people look when they make a turn?

The problem is that cars are .. too safe

Really.

Research (into the bleedin' obvious) way back in the 90s showed that when drivers are persuaded they're safe, they pay less attention and take greater risks.

It's often mooted as a primary reason Volvo drivers were notoriously the world's worst (a bike mag I used to read featured ads who's tag line was "Have you been Volvo'd?") as Volvo used to heavily promote their 'safety' (despite them regularly coming second to Audi in accident death rates) and consequently their drivers believed they were safe. Not sure it fully explains their inability to indicate or complete lack of lane discipline ..

These days, Volvo drivers have been eclipsed by SUV drivers who mistakenly believe their vehicles to be safe - another myth of course: the dangers are simply different. In 2006 SUVs had the highest occupant fatality rate of any vehicle type in rollover crashes.

Accidents in SUVs are also much more likely to cause death to non-passengers - to the extent that any SUV driver involved in a fatal accident SUV is arguably guilty of manslaughter / second degree homicide as they knowing drove a vehicle that has a vastly increased likelyhood of killing in the event of an accident.

A wee rant about Volvo and SUV drivers - I feel better for that, anyway :D

Most SUV drivers out here do the same, plus they think the vehicle will stop on any surface, including ice.

A lot seem to have the attitude of "get out of my way, my vehicle is bigger"

I got the Tacoma 4WD pickup just to get out of the way of these idiots, not to mention being able to see through the their cars at an intersection.

I've watched a lot of them - speed limit 55, they do 75, and since the road is limited access, it does have lights. Some lights are close to 180 seconds. That means a lot of wear on the brakes, downtime since they hit every light, and they then try to floor the car when the light changes and have to ride the brakes again since the cars in front take time to move. Plus they are on the cell phone or using the connectivity in the new cars to amuse themselves. It's really satisfying when we get there at the same time by NOT speeding and catching all the green lights.

They also don't see motorcycles. The Vulcan has almost been nailed a couple of times by turning traffic.

It kind of irritates me when I try to do something nice, like add a CD to an online database and people throw fits as if I gone in and defaced their front page or something.

Dude, I was just trying to be nice, contribute to the effort, all that! If you're going to be pissy about it, then I'll just leave and enter my CD information manually, let you duplicate the effort.

Nice thing is that for something small like a headphone cable they come apart as quickly as they go together and you don't end kinking or tangling anything.

I hate it when I can't use fastboot flash xxx or adb xxx because of no drivers. I swear this is what pushed me over the edge. I got a better OS, Ubuntu. (13.10, latest, Intel EMT64) Finally, I can actually get stuff done in the fastboot and adb environment.

Learn how to make an electrician's braid. It takes seconds to do a headphone cable and tangles will be a thing of the past.

Hmm.... what is an "electrician's braid"?

Hmm...... very interesting....

Never seen or heard of this before... I have heard of of.... cat5 and cat6....

But... I never thought to figure out why.....

No wait! :)

Do not tell me! :)

I want to try and figure this out on my own. :)

If I struggle then I will try and figure out some more. :)

I am weird like that. :D

Maybe it is electrical interference....hmmmm.... or maybe it is just for stronger reinforcement to prevent damage if it needs to be used for maybe some kind of pulling or something there... maybe.

And then again maybe not. ;)

Once upon a time Leonardo De Stinky - the legend once said:

"There are 3 types of people in this so very Stinky World...

Those who see,

Those who see when they are told,

And those who do not see. :D"

Ahhh!

xD

It is for tangles!!

Haha!

xD

I am such an idiot I did not even read. :D

I am special!

xD

:D

Carry on. :)

If/when I get hit, I'll be happy to sue. I can use the money to buy a new bike.

No, wrong guys, I LOVE MY HUBBY JOSHUA ALAN STENBACK, he truly ix my existence, I just used the post as another excuse to "broadcast" it. ..I LOVE YOU MY HUBBY, MY ONE N ONLY FOREVER TILL THE STARS EXPLODE, KAITLYN N JOSHUA:) !!!!

Well, I'm sure we're all happy for you, it just seems a bit odd to join an Android forum, and your only two posts are "I love my hubby" lol.:)
Also, a rant is usually something you are not happy about. Just sayin.
Welcome to the forums, though! (seriously)
