[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

it will be the same across all retail channels. BB sometimes sells them early when they get them in but thats frowned upon.

Well, here's to my BB store being too stupid to follow directions and call me on Sunday to tell me to come pick it up. Frown away.

Has VZW confirmed what BB is saying about the "exclusive" nature of the TB?

I'm sorry, but I no longer use the word "confirmed" anywhere near a T-Bolt thread :D

And I think it was debunked but honestly I'm not really on top of things when it comes to this device. When it's at the store...I'll go and check it out. Until then, everything is "unconfirmed" as far as I'm concerned (which is really the case with any device for any carrier IMO).

I just talked to my guy, and I can't give out his identity but he told me the TB will release on the 14th, but will have a OTA firmware upgrade on the 28th. The firmware upgrade will enable world phone capabilities, an HDMI port, a qHD display and increase the size of the battery from 1400 mah to 2000 mah. He says the reason for the delayed firmware is that Verizon will be announcing the Blackberry thunderSTORM at MWC and they're worried that people don't know how to read.

they are assuming that its the same as the desire or some other phone i think. there was talk about that awhile ago. It shouldnt take long to root it though if what they assume holds true

yea i cant remember where but i read that^^^ also. the root method is supposed to be the same as a current phone.

What's sad is that if you just talk phone hardware...I'm leaning to the bionic. But I don't want a locked down phone so Moto might just kiss my money away because they don't embrace the rooted community anywhere near as much as HTC does. I have yet to purchase a HTC Android device...but that might change shortly.

If nothing else...THANK YOU to HTC for not turning your back to the people that like to modify their devices!!! Even without owning an HTC device...it is clear that Sense is the best UI skin for Android AND they seem to give up root the easiest. Makes it hard not to want to support them!!!

This will be my first htc product. This is my line of thinking and reason I will buy the thunderbolt instead of the bionic. My next contract will be one year. Look how long it took the x to get root and overclocked. This phone will be rooted almost immediately and will no doubt have a huge dev base probably more than the bionic. If I were to bet, my contract will be up and I will have earned my next upgrade before the bionic all things root section gets going good.

Yeah...I think I'm sold on this device :)

But what does 4G do to our data costs? Anyone know for sure what the pricing structure is going to be? It's probably not going to matter...but good to know info ;)

Welcome aboard ub! Its nice to have someone im familiar with join us :) As it stands 4g will be 29.99 . For how long is uncertain.

I have a question. Is the sense UI different than the one on the desire z? I forget the version numbers. I have a desire z Rom on my dinc and wondered if it will be different.

Can you guys explain what it means to have phone rooted?

Easiest way to explain it is like having admin privileges on a windows Desktop. You can remove unwanted programs installed. You can also install custom ''roms". You can tweak setiings normally locked down like clock speed.

Thanks (although I was "on-board" way back in the fall of 2010...I'm just coming back around and this device still seems to be the best option anytime soon). I haven't seen any official word yet and so the 4G pricing makes me a little nervous. I'm probably moving up to 4G regardless...but it's nice to know what I'm in for in terms of pricing :)

I'm not familiar with the various ROMs on the DInc but the Thunderbolt has and updated version of Sense (v2.0). I don't know if that updated version has been ported to any ROMs for the DInc but from what I understand...it will be similar to previous versions...only better.
