Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

I have the one in the guide, ra something I think.
Im talking about where you choose to do nandroid backup, the next option is nandroid restore . The next 2 is google something I can check it up exactly if you need.

ok you have amon ra 2.3 as your recovery then.

and you are talking about the google proprietary system files......those are the gapps files i believe.....never used that function to be honest with you.

LOL before i got the htc evo.....i almost got the palm pre.....i'm so glad i did not make that mistake:)

i'm still amazed though that folks still have this phone. the og evo was and still is a beast considering how technology has advanced since it first came out.

i still use mine as an mp3 player....not sure if i will ever part with it as it was my first android phone that i rooted....my first android phone was the htc hero.

Palm pre wow now that was a hot phone lol. Good decision though.

I cant get upgrades on my plan and I'm to cheap to buy a phone ,so therefore i get hand me downs from family members.
My first android and first root was a samsung replenish

The system cannot find my ext partition. It was already partioned from my old phones setup. It may be in ext4 format. How do I check and how do I downgrade it if necessary?

Sorry for the delayed response...work today was very tiring and busy!!
Anyway, you need to partition your sd card for this phone via recovery. If it was partitioned with another device, it won't be correct.
Just be aware that partitioning will wipe the card, so save what you need and you only need to partition to ext3.

:)

Absolutely no need to apologize! :D
Was gonna try that next but wasn't sure if partioning will wipe the whole card.
How do I get rid of the current partition? I have a 16gb card so what's the recommended partition size? When I partition it's automatically on ext2 and I need to upgrade it to ext3? Thanks.

Yes, when you repartition, it will wipe the whole card and basically re-do it...does that make sense?
And then upgrade to ext 3.
Read post 2 at the beginning of this thread...it has the procedure to partition:) (alot easier than posting it all here in my post :) )

Okay just read it. Do I really need to do a full wipe and reflash the rom after partitioning?
So just to clarify, partioning the card now will wipe clean my old partitions correct?
the guide says "choose 32 for swap and 1024 or 2048 for ext2" what's that mean? Size of the partition?

No, you won't need to reflash the rom, it won't touch the rom, so no worries there.

The swap, I'm not sure of, so 32 is fine.
The 1024 or 2048---yes, that is the size of the partition. When I ran my 16GB card, I chose 2048 . Quite large, but I didn't want to run out of room lol..:)

So 2048 = about 2gb?

All done! I reboted and everything was still the same so I used TE to send a2sd reinstall and that seems to have worked. Any other things I need to send to ext?
Did I do the right thing?

What's this mean? Why are these apps listed as on SD card but when I click on them I still have the move to SD card button? ?

it is just a functionality of gingerbread....if you look in titanium backup(the main screen) it will list what your sd card ext storage is at.

A couple of the built in apps seem to have gotten messed up during the a2sd install, including maps YouTube and hangouts. I reinstalled from Play Store those Google Apps but I'm still missing so. Some HTC apps as you can see in the screenshots.
Anything to do about it?

Sorry didn't get to reply. It works, but now I have another question. I'm trying to root my brothers EVO and I'm having an issue. I installed onto his computer all necessary files and I'm trying to get the identifier token off his device. But the command prompt seems to be stuck by "waiting for device" after I enter the command. What should I do?

Got the drivers installed yes? Try a different cord or a different usb port.
Uninstall HTC sync but leave the drivers. Reboot the computer.
Just a couple of suggestions:) Anything else trying to connect to the device such as PDA net or doubletwist?

I'm pretty sure I installed everything. How do I Uninstall HTC sync but leave the drivers?
Could be pdanet is interfering.
What's doubletwist?
Also after installing HTC sync, pdanet is giving me a a HTC sync error, what's that mean?
If I can Uninstall HTC sync why did I have to install it in the first place?
Thanks

To install HTC Sync, you just need to find it in your Programs and remove it. The drivers should be listed separate so no need worrying about uninstalling the drivers:)

Doubletwist is a music sync program I believe.

Not sure on that PDAnet/HTC sync error :(

You have to install HTC sync only for the drivers it provides, nothing else:)

Sorry for the short answers here...lol, it took me 15 minutes to type this out...work is busy :)

Update: couldn't get it to work on my brothers laptop, I think the problem is installed java on Windows 8. But works fine on my xp system.
New Q: I ordered an evo for my sister from eBay. It came rooted (revolutionary ie old hboot) with s-off. It's running classic v0.1.0 supermagic rom. Can anyone point me to where I can find more info on that rom. How's it compare to Mikg? Should I update it or leave it as is?
