Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

I'm at step 5 with the recommended method on HTCdev site. I ran the Android SDK manager and it comes up with not only the Android SDK tools and Adroid SDK Platform-Tools, but also a separate folder for Android 4.0.3 (API15) with subdirectories of "Documentation for Android SDK; SDK Platform; Samples for SDK; ARM EABI v7a System Image; Sources of Android SDK"

Do I install those packages as well? The directions don't say to install them but they come up pre-checked and the directions show an older rev7 rather than the rev17 that is current.

Any help would be great.

Thanks, Scott
Nope, you don't need those extra ones. You can uncheck them. You only need the SDK Tools and Platform Tools. And you can use whatever the current version is. Thanks for letting us know - looks like it's time to upgrade my Android SDK :).

your phone needs to be set as charge only and also make sure that usb debugging is set as well. which method are you using?

Thank you
Yes i tried that but the guide said you have to be in bootloader? idk what im doing wrong

you should be in fastboot not bootloader. on the bootloader menu, there should be a fastboot option. once selected it should now say fastboot usb.

now you should be able to enter the commands.

ok where are you entering the command from? do you have all of the adb files setup? did you put the appropriate files into the android folder like the HTCdev website states?

yes i have the adb file adbwinapi.ll file and fast boot file
I did just notice something though on the htcdev site the file sizes
are (adbwinapi.ii) 94kb (adb) 402kb (fastboot) 180 kb
mine are (adbwinapi.ii) 94kb (adb) 159kb (fastboot) 69kb
could this be why?

you also need the adb.exe file as well. i have direct downloads for the three file you need in the android folder in the taco root method. use those and see if that helps.

do you have the path correct when entering the command? easiest way is to press and hold shift then right click on the android folder, select command prompt from here option then try entering the command again.

No its not showing up on the computer. it only shows up when the phone is turned on and its a new cord so i hope it aint that

so when the phone is on, your computer sees it with no issues? if so then it might not be the cable. not sure why you are having this issue. and you are sure that you are in fastboot, correct?

correct when the phone is on it shows up fine. I believe so I home power and volume down then I press the power button to select fastboot

Do you think if I take my sd card out and factory reset my phone and then put my sd card back in it. Do you think that would work?

no need to take the sd card out when doing a factory reset. it might work, but i'm not sure.

so you power off then press and hold power+vol down to get to the bootloader, correct? then you select fastboot in the bootloader menu, correct? if so then you are in fastboot correctly and the command should work.

Hi,

I can't seem to get htc synch working, is it required to complete the rooting process?

Have talked with HTC, and tried several versions, but its just not connecting.

Thanks

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!
you do not need to run htc sync. you just need the drivers for it. just follow the directions on the HTCdev site. in the directions there it does not say to run htc sync. you just need it installed on the computer mainly for the drivers.
