Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Another really dumb question how do you know that your rooted i just got a rooted app and it told me it cant see that im rooted and forced closed?
When i hold power + vol down it says unlocked on the top

I may be wrong but I don't think you can flash a ROM without having your phone rooted.
I know my phone is rooted because I did it myself :p
Jokes aside, I remember reading some apps conflict and gives you a false positive. Does that make sense to you?

Yea i understand what you mean.
Yea cause im about to flash the rom then i downloaded quick boot cause a video i seen makes it easier to get to recovery and thats when it said your not rooted so i was like wtf

Well since you have the newest H-boot and you have unlocked it you are able to put a custom recovery on there and flash ROMS.

The issue with root apps is that the ROM you are currently on is not rooted. Flash a new rom such a mikG above and you'll be all set.

Ok i got one last question i hope lol. i have the mikg as ive said before. i noticed i dont have swype anymore. How can i get that back on there hate the old keyboard
 
You should try SwiftKey... It's actually pretty good.

I also saw ICS keyboard beta floating around... Albeit I'm haven't tried that one.

Swiftkey is good as well. Problem is I never remember to back up its data when I flash new ROMS, so it never keeps my habits and I have to start over:eek:
 
It's baked into MikG. Look for either an app called hotspot or sprint hotspot.

What about a mirroring app i tried that hdmwin out and i need a kernel for that and once again im sick and very lazy right now lol

Personally I believe the best kernel is AnthraX. It has beats code in it and frankly kicks ass on performance. I don't know if it supports mirroring but I dont see why it wouldnt

Hey guys, I'm new to the rooting thing and i need your help. I guess i'll start with i have and what i've done. I've completed the unlock bootloader which is the first step in the Captian throwback guide. everything was going as smooth as possible until i got to step 10. the guide tells me to download the PC36IMG.ZIP file so i can update my phone to hboot 2.10. When i download the file it gives me an error message it says "Compressed zipped folder error, Windows could not open the folder" i've tried to renaming the file to PC36IMG.Zip and putting it on the root of my SD card but nothing happens. when i go into the bootloader on my phone it doesn't update anything. I'm very confused by this. PLEASE HELP ME.

This is what my phone says when i enter the bootloader

LOCKED (OOW)
SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.18 0001
MICROP-041F
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.12.19

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like you might be extracting the file. leave the file zipped and just change the name. do not add an extra zip as windows by default hides extensions. also make sure that the file is not in any folders, just on the card.

OK so i did what you said and it worked!!! But it didn't downgrade me to hboot 2.10 instead i'm at 2.16 and it still says SHIP S-ON. i'm not sure which direction to go in now.
