Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

Thank you for your quick response. I followed the HTCDev method. I completed:
Step 1 (After this step, I can reboot my phone)
Step 2 (Installed the amon ra 2.3 recovery without Android Flasher)
Step 3 (flash a rom, without keeping stock)

Once I completed these steps, my phone could not boot into a normal functional screen. The BootLoader keeps showing up.

Thanks,

Ok good that you're bootloader is unlocked. What ROM did you flash? What did you wipe before flashing the ROM? Did you wipe dalvik cache, cache, and at least data?

The first time I went through, I unintentionally skipped the wipe step. When I saw the problem, I went back the second time and did wipe the three things. In fact, I did this several times and the phone still have not booted up. I flashed the ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE.zip rom.

Thanks,

Savio

Ok the super wipe is not a ROM.it is just a file that helps wipe every phone really well. That is probably why you are having issues.you have wiped you're stock ROM and so only thing you have is the bootloader. I hope you made a nandroid backup that you can restore to. If not just download a rim like mikg and flash.

Oh ... No. I didn't do the nandroid backup. Where do I find mikg and flash? thanks.

Ok here I go I only have net via easy tether pro but I do have 2 active EVO 4g's so one via usb for net (set to storage drive) and one via usb for root (set to charge only) will this work?

That *should* work, as long as the computer has internet access to download the required programs and run them.

ok my evo been flashed by a some one working for boost mobile (I paid$$) now when i check the hboot said s-on that mean security on or mean its not root how can that be posible??? thank you for the reply:confused:

Welcome to the forums!! :)

When you check your hboot, what number is it?

Does it say unlocked at the top?

The newest hboot is unlockable through HTC dev, with s-on. So you can flash ROMs etc, and have s-on.

I hope I am posting in the right forum and if not please excuse my ******ness... But Im trying to root my HTC EVO4g HBOOT 2.18.. 2.3.5

I've got the unlock code from HTC DEV and when I attempt to enter the fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin using a macbook running 10.5.8, I keep getting the permission denied or cant run program....

Is there anyone out there who has rooted there phone using a macbook and if so HEEELLP. BTW, Ive spent about 2-3 weeks reading and rereading all of these forums about ROMS, Flashing, backing up, do's and don'ts and my head hurts.

Thanks for any and all help.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not sure on a mac. i know that htc sync is for windows only. as for pc they need the drivers that comes with htc sync in order for the HTCdev method to work. not sure if that is the issue or not.

are you in fastboot on your phone when trying to enter the command? and are you entering the command in the right directory? it should be done from the android folder.

Thanks for your help. Yes my evo is in fast boot usb as indicated by the text on the white screen. I know it's possible with mac, just hard to find a good tut like the ones I found here for pc. I have a pc as well, not the most current but will try that.

Another issue I'm having with the mac is the commands.. Can't find a good tut on how to type them in. I'm pretty sure I'm typing them in right because I've made it's all the way to step eleven on htcdev.

I did the HTCdev unlock without issue. Before doing anything else, I went to the market and installed a few apps the were wiped out by the unlock. Apps like "Any Cut", "TeamViewer" and "SpeedTest" installed just fine, but when I went to update "Google Maps" from

version 5.11.0 (#5110018) gmm-android-sprint-us

to the version in the play store (6.5.0), I get an error stating:

Your order is processing, your item will be available in a few minutes.

Dalvik shows this when that error happens:
Code:
04-14 12:52:06.268: E/Volley(2433): [14] BasicNetwork.performRequest: Unexpected response code 500 for [URL]https://android.clients.google.com/fdfe/purchase[/URL]

The same thing happens when I try to update any app that was on the stock build. e.g. Google's "Navigation", "Street View" and "Amazon MP3".

Is this a DRM issue? Have others seen this?

I've tried to update "Google Maps" (and other stock apps) over and over for the better part of a day now.

I was was able to complete the root using amon ra 2.3 recovery. (The Android Flasher method did not work for me on my XP Pro SP3 system.)

For now, I'm sticking with the stock rom - I was able to install Superuser. I'm just a bit puzzled by the inability to update certain apps.

Thanks for your time on this.

Edit: I'm editing this post to include the answer/solution since all of my Google searches just found reports of the problem fixing itself after several days/weeks - the assumption in many forums was that the market servers were too busy. The solution for me was to update the profile (and PRL while you are at it). On a stock (Sense) interface (ROM) this can be done via:
Menu > Settings > Software updates > Update profile
the repeat for PRL
Menu > Settings > Software updates > Update PRL

...hope this helps someone else...

Thanks for the prompt reply & my apologies for not understanding what "pro" means. As for updating my "profile" - are you talking about my Google Play account/profile? If yes, how would I go about updating same.

Thanks again for voluteering your time.

Hey!

I believe OCN meant PRL and profile.

I haven't been on a sense based ROM in a while but its Menu>Settings>About phone>update PRL and Profile.

Something along those lines
