Root [Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

ok my evo 4g has been rooted and running a mik rom since december of last year... ok i need to take this phone to sprint because bluetooth antenna is acting up. anyway,,,
i have ra recovery 2.3 installed and if i go to fastboot i am seeing revolutionary and s-off so i am assuming i used a revolutionary root to root phone and my security is off.
i need to know what write up i need to follow so i dont brick my phone! there are a couple that say i need to use a revolutionary write up to unroot ,,,there are a couple that say if i am running android 2.3.5 with build 5.07.651.1 i need to use another procedure!!??? i am so confused on what to do here it is not funny..
here is the low down..
my phone has android 2.3.5
software version 5.07.651.1
i rooted with revolutionary
i have ra recovery
and my security is off..
i need to know how to unroot and install ruu to make stock with no root so i can take phone to sprint..
please dont be tough on me :))) i rooted and put a good rom on and have not touched it in 7 months so i dont know what has been going on with the rooting and rom scene for awhile.
thanks

Short but sweet answer. Don't unroot. Leave it. You'll be ok:D

typical donor phones are 3g only, thus the evo will only be 3g as well.

You could get a 4g donor phone and it seems someone has made the evo 4g work, I have not as the point of a $300 donor escapes me lmao
For $300 I could buy me a new phone with that..I just want to use the 4g network because where I work at the 3g attends to be alittle slow..So I want to check out the 4g network. over there. Yea I know I should buy a router and internet over there..But my Job is cheap and doesn't want to spend to much money on things.

pay no attention to what software you have. that can be changed by flashing roms. it is not what is needed to unroot. if you have rooted with revolutionary then your hboot should be 6.16 or 6.17. please verify that first. if this is the case then you need this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. there is an unrooting section with instructions. read first and then come here if you have any questions.

also just an fyi, there really is no need to unroot it if you are taking it in. they really do not care, but that is up to you.

are you sure about the "they dont care about the root?" because i currently have a "stock rooted rom" on it now.. i hate to take it in and them b;lacklist my phone in the notes so i cant never get it fixed again..

You know its the law for a person to do what ever he/she wants on their headset..If a service provider puts the phone on blacklist..Then they should check the laws about headsets..I was argue with a rep about me changing my service provider and the rep was like..Its againest the law to root or anything towards your phone..And I said well check the laws about headset..If a person buys the phone he/she has the title to do what ever he/she wants. That including changing service provider..( I know they don't want to hear that law story) but hey its the truth. If we didn't have the rights..We be doing morse code on paper and a pen.

well i have a rep that i have gotten to know over time and he is aware that i have a rooted phone and never has he turned me down for anything that i needed service. i had a bad usb port and they gave me a refurbished phone without even looking at my phone. i turned mine in with cm7 as i did not know that they were going to do that on the spot.

mikey has a link on sprint's policy someone posted. i cant seem to find it. the main thing is to not divulge that it is rooted. if they ask however do not lie. let them know that it is rooted if asked. just tell them that this is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with the fact that the phone is rooted.

if it is not the rep that i know, then i usually do not say anything unless they asked. however, i have told a rep in the past not to update or install the the latest ota and they seem to be fine with that.

but to each there own i guess. either way works.

ok took it in today and when i come back to pick it up first thing that came out of there mouth was "this phone is rooted, where not supposed to work on it rooted because we cant update it" i was like update what? i have the latest updates on it and besides its a hardware issue anyway! anyway i mentioned the memo about repairing rooted phones, he admitted getting memo and went ahead and ordered me a new phone. will be there thursday.

thanks for the help
much appreciated.

Thanks for the update!
We'll be here if you want to root your replacement, or, it already may be rooted....sometimes they are!

Has anyone got a list of roms that are available for the htc evo 4g..I saw couple that good friend posted but none of them seem to caught my eye. Yea I'm a geek so sue me...I would be most appericate on it.

I'm getting a problem with the DL links for unlocking. Norton anit virus comes up as its an attack on my computer after i click on download. Is this true should i turn norton off?

the download links from the htcdev site or the beginning of this guide?
Either/or, they are fine.
Honestly, the files listed at the beginning of this guide should suffice....its easier than the ones at the htcdev site.:)

plus to be honest i would ditch norton. it is one of the worst anti viruses out now. it let my mom's pc get infected and crashed her hard drive. plus it slowed the pc down so much that you can't use it when it is scanning the computer.

just disable or turn off norton when downloading the files.
