Ringke case for the thunderbolt

Cool, wanted to make sure it got to you since I didnt put a return addy on there. lol. Not sure how the rep works with items or if its only market items that you actually sell for a profit, but if not you mind giving me a bump there? I think thats whats keeping me from selling that stupid Seidio case.

I hate phone cases since they add bulk and take away the feel and look of the phone, but as far as cases go, I really like this one. I'll take the protection it offers in case I drop it over the risk of breaking my phone.

I just received mine today. Overall fit and feel is great. The orange color is no where near the orange in the pictures. If online returns weren't such a hassle I would exchange for a different color. The orange is almost pastel :-(

Lol. I just realized this last night. I normally just have it on speaker phone, but I dont think theres a fix other than shaving some of the case off.

Just ordered one, we'll see how it compares to the active x. Figured for $17 shipped I'd give it a go.

Definitely gonna Dremel a small opening for the sensor though. I like the auto brightness feature on the BAMF ROM's so its gonna have to be opened up a touch.

just placed an order for my new tbolt and i'm struggling with making a decision on a case. how big of a deal is it that the ringke case covers the proximity sensor? and is this the sensor which shuts off the screen when you hold the phone up to your ear?

i really like what i've read in this thread. i have a touch of OCD and if my case has lint sticking to it all the time, well i just won't be happy with that.

think it'll be easy to fix/tweak the case on my own? or will rearth release an updated version in the near future?

if it's not an easy fix, are there any other cases you would recommend?

ps. please forgive the onslaught of newbie questions. :p

edit: just a few more questions, hah! are you guys only using the case, or are you getting the combo which comes with the plugs and the ringbo screen protector? wondering if the ringbo protector is any good or if i should just get a zagg?

Yes, that is the sensor that turns the screen off when you put it to your ear, another reason I'm going open that part up a touch. I need that working.

Other good options are anything from Seidio or Otterbox, although they probably add a little more bulk. Currently using the Seidio Active X, which is a silicone skin with a hard skeleton that covers the back, corners and sides. Very nice case..

Anyway, as far as my plan to open it up enough to let the proximity sensor work correctly. Im going to mark where the sensor is, take a cone shapped tip and a Dremel and shape a small opening with concave sides. I dont want to just drill a hole and have the case blocking light if it's not coming straight on. I understand the OCD... :)

If you want the proximity sensor working and you're not up to that, or dont have the correct tools, I'd look at a different case. JMO..

Oh, and for a screen protector, I dont like them, but I've used Steinhall with good success. I think most here would agree Steinhall is probably the way to go for a quality protector. If you opt for the Otterbox Defender series, it has a built in screen protector. Unfortunately sometimes it lets dust get underneath it. Or at least it did on other models I've used it on.

The proximity sensor just controls the auto brightness as well as turning off the screen when its close to your ear. If you use BT or speakerphone and dont use auto brightness, youll never notice an issue. I didnt till yesterday. lol. I just cut a little bit away that was covering it and I havent seen a problem so far. It doesnt completely make it useless, but its like a 30% chance(because I have the semitransparent one) that itll work. Not a big deal for me personally, but it can be annoying.

I think I was the only one that got the plugs, but I love it and would have purchased them anyways. They fit PERFECT. Just put it on BEFORE you put the case on and its damn near seamless. I have Ghost Armor for my screen though. After seeing how well it kept my screen together when I dropped it, I wont go elsewhere.

Edit: You can use a dremel too, but I just used a knife and cut a cone shape out after marking it. Cause Im ghetto like that. lol

Do you have a pic of the phone in the case?

Specifically close-ups of where the edge of the case meets the screen on the top, bottom, and sides.

Thanks bro

No because in order to take a pic I would need my phone to take it. lol. I would use my enV3, but the camera is el sucko.

If youre looking for the sensor though, its right above the check mark in front of verizon.

i really appreciate the quick responses!

i'll have to take a hard look at seidio and otterbox because the proximity sensor issue would definitely bug the crap outta me, and i don't have a dremel. i'm too particular to go ghetto with a knife like you did, mclabia.

and thanks for the heads up on steinheil, ibrick.

Just use a bunch of mirrors to take the pics.. :D j/k it's cool, I'll wait till mine shows up, said 3-5 days.

Yeah I know where the sensor is, I'm just curious how much of it is covered.

And also if the sloped sides make typing easier.. My Active X has squared off edges where it meets the screen so it's constantly in the way when typing.

Lol. I only say ghetto cause its a fix. In essence, theyre all ghetto fixes. It doesnt look bad though. I cut it to where it looks like where it was fuzed together and its almost seamless. If I took my time rather than only making two cuts, I probably would have had it looking like it came that way.

As far as the steinheil goes...eh. I prefer the Ghost Armor. Granted it may be a little thicker than most, but youll never notice it by touch or any glare. The only way you know its there is when it does its job. It may cost a little more, but it also has a full cover for the entire phone including the battery door.

Edit: DAMN YOU FOR POSTING WHILE IM POSTING! lol. I have zero problems typing with the case on. I was asked the other day why I dont have a case on my phone. I laughed and showed em. The sensor is totally covered, but by the bottom half of the cases lip.
You can kinda see it in this pic how it slopes down. Thats where I cut it at and I have no issues and didnt lose any snugness.

Edit: Heres a better pic...

edit: ohhhh, okay gotcha. i think i could manage that. still gonna look at a seidio though. i looked into the otterbox but i don't like the fact that the screen protector is built-in.

wait a minute. i've circled in red what i think you're talking about. is that the cut-out you did? if so, that looks slick! i think i could manage that.

Lol. Nah, thats the back where the AUX plug is located. lol. That part DOES look slick though. Especially when the plugs in.

won't need the extra battery. i plan to root my tbolt and tweak the bejeezus out of it so i can run the stock battery and get a decent day's worth of charge out of it. :D

if i'm ever hungry for more power, i'll just bite the bullet and grab an extended battery. seems like there are some decent cases coming out for the extended batteries.

but i wish you the best of luck getting your seidio sold. and again, thanks for all your help and input!
