Root [ROM][ALPHA] Triumph CM9 v0.6.17.0 [FINAL]

For me tethering works just fine, just not through USB. I simply use wifi tethering. I'm having a hard time thinking of a situation where I would even prefer a tethered share, much less need it. Then again there are sure to be edge cases I haven't considered.

I've solved my slow GPS lockon times today. I downloaded a program called "FasterGPS". All it does is change the default server for loading local satellite data, but it worked like a champ. It seems the default one is some qualcomm server that can be incredibly laggy. I set it to a US based government server and it locks on within seconds. I mean so fast it's embarrassing, and I'm indoors! So, screw qualcomm. They don't have their user's best interests at heart. Anyway, it might be a good idea to change the default to something else. Mine's US centered though (us.pool.ntp.org), so hard to say what it should be.

I haven't noticed any ring tone related issues myself. I have noticed that every now and then the volume for music will drop rather notably and won't work right until I reset the system, but again, it's rare.

So far it's very stable, and having fixed my GPS issue, I'm prepared to use this as my normal day to day ROM. Sure the camera would be nice, but the important stuff is working and ICS already fixes a number of issues I had with stock. I've also set my governor to "smoothass" (ah hackers, stay classy) and set the minimum clock speed to the.... minimum. I'm getting enough battery power to go almost all day even with wifi set to "on" now. I also replaced the cyanogen boot animation with the ICS stock since it looks pretty trippy.

Oh, and I hate to be rude myself but, here's the way to tell if you're being rude: someone else tells you so. That's the thing about it. You can't just tell someone you aren't being rude. If they say you are, you are. Generally, demanding improvements from someone that's doing you a favor is rude. Try peppering in some understanding and appreciation and your requests may be taken better.

Here's what treysmith posted:

Alpha 0.6.16.0 for triumph makes the phone over heat. There is no tethering, but wireless tethering works fine. Please fix these problems. Thank You

Note that just adding minor decor like please and thank you isn't quite enough to prevent this from sounding demanding and rude. Let's see if we can't spruce this place up a bit shall we?

"Alpha 0.6.16.0 for triumph must have been a lot of work. However, something I can't identify seems to make the phone over heat. One minor note: there is no USB tethering, although wireless tethering works fine. That in itself must have been a feat just getting wifi working. I've got a lot of good to say here, but any other feature or fixes you coudl find the time for would be much appreciated. Thank You."

That's much better! Try a few of these on for size next time. If it's hard to keep the exact wording, one trick I've found is to put down that copy of Atlas Shrugged and show genuine thanks and compassion for someone donating their time for your sake. The words tend to spring forth naturally at that point.

Thanks for the tip about the GPS fix. I was indoors when testing it and though it took me about 30 seconds to lock on, at least I was able to. :)

Mantera I install a fresh CM9 and I'm still getting that lag between screens , umm is there anyway to compare cm9 0.6.14 to 0.6.16 ? To see what change that might have caused this ?

Try different governors under the performance setting. Things seem to run smooth with either smoothass or smartassv2 set. Also make sure to check "Set on Boot" in order to keep the settings after reboot.

Greetings guys and gals!!!

I keep checking this thread day to day for a camera update and so far things are moving a bit slow. Just curious if there is any good or bad news to report. I am not complaining, I am currently using CM7 Reloaded and happy with that, but got spoiled when I test drove CM9.

BTW, you Devs are Da Bomb, keep up the great work!!!! I am having fun learning new tricks and tweaks (LOL, almost sounds like Halloween).

Thank You!!!

So it seems like their are a lot of new people joining this forum and new to MT development. Mantera was the sole person building cm9 for the triumph, for us, and if you read back in the posts it seems his triumph has crapped out on him. He has moved on to the Htc evo 4g and will probably not continue triumph development, so until some other dev steps up to take the cm9 torch, all aspects of cm9 development has come to a stop (this includes the camera). Please someone correct me if I am wrong...

Sad but true!:(

I totally understand that. I guess I was just curious if there was any new info. Hoping that if a fix was available, maybe someone else could take the project to the next level. Thanks for the info :).

Nothing is concrete yet. Mantera has said this "may" be his last build but someone did offer him their triumph so he might or might not take the offer. Either way CM9 is great, whilst a camera would perfect it (even without HDMI), its still an amazing rom over stock. Also from what I've read Mantera has never said he was going to leave the MT completely. Even if he does decide definitely not to develop for the MT anymore he will still stay in the community to help out future devs with questions.

Also as far as I know the camera is still being researched by other devs as a group in order to better understand how to get it supported in CM7/CM9.

Yeah I imagine mantera will stop in to help out and answer questions. It seems that a group of devs for the triumph that were, and still kind of are, on androidforums have gotten together and created a very interesting dev team. DevTeam WX435, as far as I can see are: mantera, tickerguy, whyzor, gannon, G60, b_randon, austrie, wsimon, rukin, and isaacj87. all of whom are some of the best devs the triumph has, and they are reworking cm7, cm9, AOKP, and such. So I would say if any further development on cm9 would probably come from them. Check it out at [DEV][TEAM WX435] has arrived! - xda-developers.

just for clearification purposes lol, Team WX345 so far as ive seen is G60madman, B_randon, and Gannon-who is now Rukin

tickerguy, whyzor, and isaac havent dev'd this device for a while

austrie as far as ive seen is still dealing with real life issues and hasnt been around as much

Mantera is still here kicking in help whenever people ask, but he no longer has a triumph

Wsimon i have no idea what hes doing lol

austrie as far as ive seen is still dealing with real life issues and hasnt been around as much

That sucks, I wish him/her well and hope it's not serious issues. We have fun with our devices, but sometimes forget how unimportant they really are.

I've been using Android Open Kang Project's CM9 (Build 38) ROM for few days now and I think Android 4.0 is ready for Triumph. It's super stable and if someone can figure out how to solve the camera issue for Triumph I think we can have a beta version/ daily usable ROM for Triumph.

Is the ROM dead since Mantera left? Will we never see a working camera?
I'll admit- it is disheartening to keep checking back day after day and not see any obvious movement on the camera issue (which is unfortunately a big one for me). I think this is a case where we really just have to hang in there- I wish I had the time/energy/expertise to help crack what seems to be a really tough nut. I'm confident that one way or another, someone will get the camera working in ICS for the Triumph. Heck- maybe we'll even get a fully functioning Jell Bean ROM out of the deal instead. Also, the fact that I paid ~$200 for my phone new makes me a little less antsy- it's not like we purchased a Galaxy Nexus for $600 and then were told it was getting no ICS update. Patience, grasshopper. :)

Just about all of the Triumph ROMs are CM9 based and almost none of the CM9 builds have a working camera. They are also Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), so swapping ROMs mostly gets you a different skin AND depending on the ROM Developer, it might get updated more often.

I have tried them all now and my every day ROM is MIUI Gingerbread by Isaac. Everything works on it.... It trued is a daily user and a miser on battery usage.

i do like ICS 4.0.4 but every time i get hooked on one flavor, the Developer leaves and now that VM has the iPhone, users will leave too. MIUI V4 is pretty good, but based on CM9 and thus no camera and it still has a few bugs. Likewise AOKP. 0.6.16 does run hot and sucks the battery. No clue why, but it does.

Truely hope Mantera gets another phone and the passion to keep going.

So I dont think the camera problem will be solved by a Triumph Dev. Motorola source code would be nice. Petition Google, now that they own them.

Again camera is being worked on by another dev. Mantera may stay on board but a donation might persuade him further *nudge nudge*. I'm going to donate soon as I get a paycheck that isn't ate up by bills cause Mantera and many other devs have really made updating the triumph worth something.

To the above, did you mean CM9 0.6.16.0? AKOP uses build numbers rather than version (Build 38 being the latest) they are different beast while being similar in many ways. Other than not having camera which most of us have dealt to live without this latest version of CM9 is stable enough to be a daily. Personally I'd say its beta right now and if/when camera is ever released it could go into RC and if HDMI (if anyone decides to work on it) gets working then could be a full release. Though devs have their own ways of labeling versions to keep organized.

So sit back and relax and enjoy CM9 as it is for now. And remember no matter if this version is the last for now or just on hold that at least Mantera and the other devs didn't refuse an update to us. They gave us an option that Motorola/VM unfairly denied us paying customers.

Also for the statement about folks flocking over to Iphone4. I have doubts cause the phone without a plan is 600 dollars a pop. The Evo V 4G is what is robbing the spot light from the Triumph. Android will always have an edge over iPhone simply due to its open source background. I think once these companies figure out a solid universal formula on updating the Android OS (instead of strictly by phone) then it will not have the drawback that Apple doesn't have (though of course its technically the same model under the same roof).

I might go back to stock for a while as I'm having issues with loosing the cell signal with most of the CM9 builds. Never had that problem on stock or cm7.

Hate the thought of going back to stock for a few days but tired of having to reboot the phone to regain cell signal. Too many calls missed lately.

Been on CM9 since late January and love the rom.

I've been having this problem a little bit too and i found if i turn airplane mode on and then off it regains signal without needing a reboot.
Hope this helps you!!

I had the same issue. I was losing everything (3G and phone). This really didn't bother me as I installed CM9 as a test drive. I switched to MIUI 1.11.25 and really like it. Not lovin the iPhone look though. Please do not take my comments as anything other than my observations. I am on disability and have all kinds of free time to play around with the different roms.

Does anyone know if android Jelly Bean would even be possible?

As Mantera posted in another thread, Jelly Bean should be a much smaller update than Gingerbread to ICS was, so eventually it should be possible. Of course, unless someone gets the camera and HDMI to work, we would still not be able to use them on it.
