Root [ROM][AOSP]dGB v01_28_2012| 2.3.5| 375MB /data| 60MB /system |Mult-lang |Unlock |Reboot[28 Jan]

Nope not neccessary. It gives you a massive advantage, in that you save lots of wasted space, but not doing this will not hinder teh functionality of the ROM.

You should try the manu 2.1 I linked though as it does not drop power when screen off. At least that way you will know either way. If you stick with it, we'll need to add a script to modify your voltages though. No big deal.

Its a checkbox I cant get rid of. So I renamed it. It doesnt do anything, hence the name :)

Heh - Well I checked it as it kindly invites me to! :D

At the minute I'm keeping my 3g on in the background and had no real issues with the weaker WiFi in standby so it isn't a deal breaker. This Kernel seems to be better as far as battery life is concerned, so I'm reluctant to leave. After 14 hours off of charge, and good usage, I'm on 39% (perfectly happy with this :)). The additional script would be welcomed, SU, however I wouldn't know where to start and I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to do it for me (not sure if you implied you would, but you did say "we'll need to add a script to modify your voltage" - I may have jumped to a conclusion but I certanly would accept it :p!).

Also, just to let you know, 4 days in and I've not had a single issue with this Rom mate. Very slick, smooth and stable with bags of memory. What else do I need? I didn't really want to flash the upgrade as the older build was flawless in my eyes and I didn't "need" to. I guess the hype/reviews convinced me - and I'm glad! Congrats again. :D

Yeah I'd give you a script to run along with 2.1 if thats what you're using. Sorry, are you? Couldnt quite work it out from that :)

I haven't changed Kernel since flashing - so I believe I will be on 2.1-EViollet-GB-HAVS-AXI-128-CFS?

Apologies if "2.1" would have sufficed, I'm not as sharp with Kernels as I'd like to be (as a lot of kernels appear to have the prefix of 2.1).

Ah ok.... Sorry

Just to clarify, there is a thread of Eviollet Kernels, of which the latest is ManU 2.1.

There is also a dGB 2.1 which Eviollet has tweaked for me specifically, based on ManU 2.1.

It was the former I suggested as this does not lower the WiFi power by default. This might determine if you were encountering your issues due to WiFi Lowering power when screen off.

One thing is ManU 2.1 has higher voltages than dGB 2.1 (This is one of the tweaks I asked for, voltages to be lowered) so if you were using ManU 2.1, we wouild need to compensate via a script. But as you are using dGB 2.1, there is no need to do anything.

Hope that makes sense.

Hmm - I think it makes sense to me.

I assumed that the lower voltage tweak caused the WiFi signal to diminish when on standby. Thus causing my (already weak) signal to be lost due to the lack of power. So this is not the case?
As the dGB 2.1 Kernerl doens't do this - I won't worry any more. I'm merely questioning this as I'm cutrious as I was - and still am - a little bit unsure by this. So did the previous dGB not come with a new Kernel (I've never changed knowingly).

Hmmmm..

Ok. Not really.l There are 2 different tweaks.

ManU 2.1 Kernel came with the previous version of dGB. It had a script to lower the voltage and Set WiFiLow "on" so when screen off, Wifi uses less power.

dGB 2.1 kernel comes with latest version of dGB. It has no script to lower voltage or set WiFiLow, as these are now set as default.

If you use Manu 2.1 kernel in Latest dGB ROM, you will not have WiFiLow as there is no script in place to set it low. WiFi will remain full power when screen off.

BUT if you use ManU 2.1, the voltages (nothing to do with WiFI btw, its about CPU - different tweak all together) will not be lowered, so script will need to lower these.

I've had my Desire for about 18 months now and have loved it from day one. My only gripe recently was the low disk space messages. About a week ago I rooted, tried a couple of roms and ended up on dGB. This has changed my phone completely, for the first time I am not charging every night, in fact the last time I charged was Saturday night (3 days ago) and I've still got 25% left, still running all the same apps as I was before and have double the space left for more if require. This rom is just brilliant.

Flashed the downgrade hboot & the gingerbread upgrade RUU. Will try to get a repair under warranty. If sucessful I may or may not come back to dGB. I still think it is the ultimate ROM for the desire but I thought I understood what I was doing. Not so sure I do now!

Sorry Dan for hijacking your thread & thanks to you all for the help you have given so freely!

My phone was returned this morning while I was at work. I hope they tell me what they did to fix it. After much soul searching I can't imagine I will be satisfied with a stock phone for long so I'm planning on returning to dGB. I was toying with the idea of giving Oxygen a try to see how the battery life compares but I can't imagine it's much better than dGB (comments anyone?).

You might remember I had a few issues with gps. While trawling through the Oxygen forum I came across this post GPS Issue (Page 1) / Off-topic / Oxygen Forum which recommends this patch AGPS Patch HTC Desire 3.1 & 2.2 | Tentative Support - xda-developers Does anyone have any experience of this with dGB or any other ROM?

Update, last version of dGB was quite simply brilliant.
This latest version takes the ROM to another level. No matter what I do I can't drain the battery! Its awesome! Still on 75% since 6am this morning.
some of you may recall that I have had occasional reboot/freeze issues, this ROM has fixed them for now (fingers crossed!)

Top job SU

Hey Dan.

I probably know the answer to this, as in "no they won't work", but is it possible to restore my old backed up CyanogenMod settings system app to use with dGB?

I used to like the option of switching off the clock in the status bar.

NO if it's not possible. Just curious.

Andy

Its not an option.

Closest thing is UOT, you can change the text colour to the same as the status bar.

SU - thought I'd check out dGB last night (better late than never, right). All looking good until part-way through Ti restore of my apps and got internal space warning. Admit this was using Oxygen 100MB hboot right enough but didn't think with only about 50 apps that they'd never fit. So some were pretty space hungry games (couple of A Birds, some other stuff for 10p under xmas market deals Heavy Gunner, Reckless Getaway etc) - but my biggest space hog culprit is Touchdown (co. insisted i had to use for work emails to meet security policies).

Clearly not a dGB problem of course, but i just got a bit disappointed as was looking forward to try out dGB. So I just dump installing some games and try again - and I will - but wondered if you/anyone has a suggestion to squeeze everything in?

Problem is I'm not sure whether it's attachments or just sheer number of emails that bloat touchdown so much, and don't really know how much space usage changes day to day - it's currently at 85MB, and doesn't cache anything so nothing to clear.

If not, time to strip out some games and try again tomorrow.
