Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

I had an issue that other newbs to clockwork might have when I went from one version of ticker's CM7 to a later version. I formatted the /system per instructions, but my wifi didn't work when I booted.

So I went back to the previous version using the nandroid backup, and this time I mounted /system and then formatted /system.

I don't know if it's necessary, but this time it came up and wifi worked.

Just a head's up. (Also, for other newbs to clockwork, you find "format /system" under the "mounts and storage" menu. Took me a while to find that...)

Ticker, is there anything we can do to assist you with getting the GPS going? I'm on the .NET side of development with a sprinkling of java, so unfortunately not a whole ton of use for assistance, but I don't mind assisting with tracking drivers or bugs down if needed.

ok i tried to flash the new 9/12 version, and im boot looping... i factory reset then flashed. should i also wipe system? or no...

New bug: This was also on aosps version for the optimus v, after not having rebooted the phone for a while the phone will take a much longer time to switch orientation.

Rock the phone is getting low on memory - I will see if I can tweak the kernel's memory management some, but it's a low-priority item.

Hey Ticker is it possible you could make a new thread giving the link to the correct CWM since many are confused about which one to use and where to get it. Of course if you have time I don't want to bother you any.

I'm using Isaac's one that selects off the soft keys and have had zero trouble with it. I built it, however, from source; I'll post a copy on the top of the thread.

hey i got it to boot! :D i flashed the 9/12 afternoon version and everything works great! i did notice one thing... the softkey lights dont function like they should. and i did go into display settings and turn them on, but they still didnt function properly... oh well it is still amazing though!!! :p nice work tickerguy!

Zig, the softkey backlights are different than you would expect but you can change them if you want. Look in Clockwork's modificaton settings under Display and go in there, changing what you want in behavior. The default has the backlights on only for low (but not zero or high) light conditions, and by default the backlight level will also not decrease from a wake (only increase.) Some of this is my table, some is default CM7 behavior but it is all under your control.

I just wanted to point a couple of things out:

1) I have been using Clockwork Recovery Mod v.4.0.0.9 (orange text) from the very first Tickerguy ROM, and I haven't had any troubles at all.
2) I've also been installing each of the ROMs without clearing cache or formatting /system, and everything was working great UNTIL this latest version.

So....I cleared my cache and then restored my last backup and everything is working fine. (One of the things that happened before I did a restore -- some apps were missing from the display and all of the folders and apps that were saved on my home page, got moved over onto the page to the right. Strange stuff, but I like to try the most straightforward and easiest approach first....and only fix or restore if something doesn't work right.) :-)

3) The "fix" that someone reported for the locking up of phone when WiFi is on and phone goes to sleep did NOT work for me. Using Tablets Tweaks to turn off locking and then using an app to lock phone -- still resulted in the phone needing to pull battery to reboot. This was letting the phone sleep when WiFi was on AND charging using A/C.

oh and mms works for me too! it sends really fast... also, 3g is also slightly faster and doesnt cut-out like some have reported. when you post newer versions i will be sure to test them since im having good luck with this version. :D

also, pm me if you need anything specific tested ok...

i use the newest cwm and factory reset and format system and the newest one boots perfectly

EDIT: hey tickerguy... do all of the "theme chooser themes" work for this phone? or do they have to be custom made?

Asking about timelines - of any sort - is a non-productive enterprise. I can't even give you an educated guess in a situation like this, because (1) I have no vendor support whatsoever on the hardware involved nor the original code that Motorola and the manufacturer used in the first instance and (2) I have no control over or interaction with the Cyanogen team in the second instance. Finally, this is not my (or anyone else's, to my knowledge) "day job" and as such this kind of question borders on a demand for "free stuff", to which (if you read my daily writing on the markets and economy) I always respond with an erect middle finger.

Sorry, did not mean to offend I was just asking some general questions because I am a n00b. I appreciate and admire the work you and everyone does on this. I don't know why you do it, but I sure appreciate it and would have gotten rid of my Touch Pro 2 much sooner if it wasn't for the custom ROMs available. I wasn't asking for a delivery date nor even expecting you personally to answer, I just wondered what was typical. It seems to move pretty quick so I will just shut up, stay tuned, and take my n00b questions to a more general forum.

1. I thought I saw that Motorola released the source code... but you would know that.
2. I have no idea how all this fits together... what you are doing versus what becomes official cyanogen release. I am just trying to decide how soon to take the plunge into a new rom.

Xerp: If you're getting a boot loop you're probably not following the instructions. Specifically, you must clear the data and cache partitions and SHOULD format /system. If you don't there's very good chance you'll get a boot loop.

Thank you, that did ultimately fix the problem. :)
Also, double thanks for changing the launcher to the default one, it's far more smooth, looks better, and runs more quickly than ADW. :)
It would be immensely helpful to be able to calibrate the compass however, unless that feature is already present and I just can't find it. I'm still a a CM7 n00b. :P

I can't wait for GPS/front camera functionality, by the way. Good luck on those two.

Motorola released KERNEL source. They most-certainly did NOT release "the entire source" to what they built. If I had their ENTIRE source tree we'd have had a working GPS and front camera essentially immediately, not to mention I wouldn't have had to dick with the radio for over a week to get IT working. In addition I'd be able to fix the hotspot problem in about 30 seconds (they intentionally removed the symbol vectors from the Wifi driver, for which there is no source.)

The kernel source allowed me to build a custom kernel. That's all.

There are, at present, no plans I'm aware of for an OFFICIAL CM7 port or official CM7 support. If the CM7 team DECIDES to pick up my work, they do - that decision is entirely theirs. My work (as is theirs) is on Github so anyone who thinks things aren't moving 'fast enough' for them is welcome to fork the repos and have at it themselves. If you do that you get to deal with the same (crappy and lack of) documentation I've been dealing with.

Compass calibration never worked right in the stock code. I believe the GPS Toolbox can do it, but I'd be careful attempting it as on other devices it has been known to totally hose the compass sensor. It appears to be ok on my unit "as is."
