I took a screen shot from CTMod 3.6 before upgrading:

/dev/stl13

was my default original.

I am a tiny bit confused, well maybe more than a tiny bit...I want to update 3.6 to 3.68 and know the procedure but I dont want to have to set my whole phone up again (apps, etc). Im just confused as to what is backed up with CWM in the procedure from the OP.

Im under the assumption that the backup CWM does is system files and such and for some reason Im thinking restoring the backup would undo the update (take me back to 3.6) and I think I need an app like Titanium Backup for my apps and settings. Am I correct in this assumption or is the CWM backup all I need to get back my setup after updating to 3.68?

Inc donation BTW, thanks for the efforts put in!

Make a backup, flash 3.68, then in cwm, backup and restore> advanced restore>restore sdext> [your backup]
This SHOULD allow you to update and keep apps and settings without TOO many issues (an app or two might need to be reinstalled but that's about it)

All the times I have played with new ROMs and I never bothered to check out advance resore options ... did not know ... been overusing Titanium Backup ... head hurts ... LOL

Now i wouldn't try this going from say ct to cm7 or miui to ct. ( or any ROM to another, for that matter)

and i wanted to add one note, if using ssm, your settings will be defaulted, but the apps will stay.

At 1st I looked at Titanium Pro and was shocked at the price, but upon digging deeper I see for 6 bucks its a steal so Im going to grab that as well, but I also want to understand whats going on with the backup in CWM.

Ahhh I see, in the case of changing ROMs Titanium Pro would be the best solution then?

You should never restore anything from a mismatched ROM.

Titanium is meant for the "Oh crap, i broke something and I need to put it back to the way it was just before I broke it"

not for: "I'm going to change from CM[n] to CTmod and I'm too lazy to reinstall all my apps"

it's is also not meant for going from Revision x of a mod to revision y

there is a reason the MOD creator made the newer version do a clean install. you should probably trust it.

not always...
Sometimes (usually) titanium causes problems when switching roms too. the true FOOL PROOF way is to just redownload then from the market...

Gotcha, can just the data then be transferred from a backup in that case?

Id have to agree with them, coming from that experience,
Using titanium backup, caused me loads of problems, alot of
fc's and issues with framework and services.

I don't use it at all, just CWM for backups and advanced restores

Just, backup in cwm before you start doing stuff. That's the safest way
