Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I uninstall all the apps I installed but it's no help.

I haven't touched the voltage app at all.

Perhaps it's just a hardware issue. When I try to turn off my screen that menu with reboot, recovery, download etc comes out and it always resets. It basically resets 1/3 or the time I hit the power button to turn on or turn off the screen.

sounds like your power button getting stuck down cuz that menu should only pop up when you hold for a few seconds. and phone reboots if you hold power button for like 10 seconds. make sure your button not rubbing on case and that it not sticking down when you press

if it is try shaving down part of case around button so it doesn't rub

It's very easy. Did you install ctmod yourself?

You install half ass rom the same way a you did ctmod

1 place rom on sdcard
2 boot phone into recovery mode
(vol up + power, from a powered off phone)
3 select install zip from sdcard
4. Select choose zip from sdcard
5. Select half ass rom
6. Select yes.
7.(once finished) Press beck
8. Select reboot system now

Then repeat this process with ctmod once activation is complete

(or if you made a backup of ctmod, you can just restore it)

To make a backup,
1.boot into recovery.
2.select backup and restore
3.select backup
(to restore backup, select restore instead in step 3, then select the backup you created)

Note-these instructions are for Clockwork Mod Recovery (it will say this at the top of the screen, in recovery mode)

boost activation of ctmod 3.68 android 2.3.6

i did not do the work this my first time.
purchased it from another user, his phone number and email address is still in the phone status specs.
i called boost gave them the dec #
status is phone not activated but account off old motorola i1 and on dec# of rooted phone.
i am in the cwm based recovery v5.0.2.7
i have half ass rom 2.1 on the pc with usb drivers intalled ready to put on sd card.
i do want to use the 2 gig sd card just for getting the phone going and then replace it with a bigger one to use the phone for normal use, and use the super secret mod and the sd swap support after i get the phone activated and back to the ctmod.
i have made two backups on the 2 gig sd after getting it from the other user.
what exactly does "wipe data / factory reset" do?
does it reset to boost factory origin or reset to unused ctmod as if never used or activated before?
should i do this to get it activated?
1 "wipe data / factory reset" to get fresh unused ctmod
2 backup
3 flash half ass ROM
4 call boost get my account activated on this phone
5 perform backup
6 perform restore from backed up of "wipe data / factory reset"
7 install new larger sd card
8 format sd card in such a way as to use SSM and SD swap support
???

what should i be aware of to not brick the phone?

thanks

1 "wipe data / factory reset" to get fresh unused ctmod
2 backup
3 flash half ass ROM
4 call boost get my account activated on this phone
5 perform backup not needed
6 perform restore from back up of created after "wipe data / factory reset"
7 install new larger sd card
8 format sd card in such a way as to use SSM and SD swap support
???

what should i be aware of to not brick the phone?

thanks

you pretty much had it.

Doing this can't/won't brick you're phone. Nothing in the cwm menu has the potential to HARD brick anything... (Odin or a backup will always be able restore it to working condition)

I read there was a newer version of the Google play store so I downloaded the apk file. I have unknown sources checked in the settings but it still will not allow me to install the new update. Any thoughts?

Rename it to Vendor.apk and move it to /system/app

Would you mind telling me what version your "new PlayStore" is ?

( Open PlayStore, Settings>>>>Settings>>> Build version : ???? )

Thx

Hmmmmm, yeah, I heard from Google Tech. Support, that the new version is the 3.9 and that it will be slowly distributed around the world...... Well, I haven't gotten it yet.

But there is at least ONE nice feature available in the new 3.9. This is an answer from Google Tech. Support about it :

However, if you're running the latest version (3.9+) of the Google Play Store app on your device (to find out the version you're running, launch Google Play, then tap Settings > Build version), you have the ability to remove apps from your My Apps list. At this time, the latest version of the Google Play Store app is slowly being released to devices around the world.

To do so, open the Google Play Store app > My Apps > All, tap the gray circle on the app you want to remove, then tap OK to confirm. You can select multiple apps to remove from the list by long-pressing an app, then tapping more apps in the list.

Note that you will only see the gray circle for apps that are not installed on that device. Removing an app from your My Apps list will uninstall the app from any other devices associated with your account. To get an app back that you've removed from your My Apps list, you must re-download the item from Google Play. If you remove a purchased app, there's no need to re-purchase that app - simply visit the app's details page on Google Play and re-install it.

If you're still running a version of the Google Play Store app below 3.9, you will not be able to remove apps from your My Apps list.

Hi,

on my first ( main ) Prevail, I have a 32GB/class 10 card and I run CTMod3.68 with Kouma Kernel and DATA enabled.............. and it runs great !!

On my second Prevail, I run the exact same setup but with a 8GB/class 6 card and I definitely can feel some lack at times when I run apps, like games !!!

So a class 10 card is what I would recommend !

looks like version 3.68 for the prevail has broke 5000 downloads. I hope everything has been working well for you guys.

maybe when I get some time I can throw one final release out for you guys so you have something new to mess with, even if its just one new feature.

Not to get off subject but I just tried installing the removed Swype app as per the instructions but once I move the app to the system/app folder it disappears. Any ideas?

Well I feel a little dumb at this point lol, for some reason I thought it had to be done some other way but it works :) Thanks for the reply.

In order to properly install this mod, must I root my phone with Odin first? If someone wouldn't mind...please give me a list of links/instructions for a first-time rooter, including how to get myself completely up-to-date with 2.3.6 (Having some internal memory limitations) Thanks alot! :)

Hi,

just follow this guide !

[GUIDE][CTmod] Rooting the Prevail for Dummies (written by a dummy)

I would use FE16 baseband and CTMod3.68 with Koumakernel in DATA mode ! That gives you plenty of space to install apps ( of course depends on the size of your SD-Card )!

Download CTMOd3.68 :

Download in first post of this thread

Here you can download the Samsung Windows Drivers :

32-bit : http://db.tt/eGN4acLK

64-bit : http://db.tt/IlIkQ4BV

Here is the base band FE16_Rooted_CWM :

FE16_ROOTED_CWM : http://db.tt/ORBp3o3J

All you need !

Hi there,

for all of you who so far didn't get but would like to install the new Google Play Store 3.9.16, I made a CWM APKInstaller. Just go in Recovery and select "Install ZIP from SD-Card" ( or if you running TWRP select "Install" ) :

Click on link and get an error from drop box. Is this link still active?

I have no problem clicking on the link. Works perfect here on two different computers.

So yes, the link is still valid !!
