Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I just found out that the newest Android release, 4.2, has a swipe-enabled keyboard. If Bloodawn decides to update, I bet that keyboard would be perfect for this thing. :)

That keyboard is for jellybean devices. It will not work on the prevail. ;)

Hi,

the "Chrome" browser that comes with CTMod is actually NOT a Chrome browser, but a modified Maxton browser which is installed as a system app. Just install another browser you like to use !!

I am a little confused on what you wanna do.

So CTMod has a "modified" Maxthon browser which looks like Chrome installed as a system app.

What do you want to do ? Install a Maxthon browser ( new version ) or the real Google Chrome browser ?

EDIT :

You would need to remove the current "Chrome Maxthon" browser ( easierst way would be with Titanium Backup ), then download and install the Maxthon browser, and make it with Titanium Backup a system app again ! That's the easy way. You also can delete the .apk file with a root explorer, then install the new browser and look for the apk file, copy it and put it into the APKInstaller-Prevail.zip ( ApkInstaller-Prevail.zip ) then uninstall the new Maxthon you just installed and copied and flash it from CWM ( Install zip from SD-Card ) to make it a system app again !

I hope I am correct with that, if not, someone please correct me ! ;)

Ok, tried that, and for some reason it's getting stuck at the koumakernal boot screen and just sitting there. Not just for a long time either, if I don't restart it, it'll just sit on that screen.

Which way did you try it?
Using root explorer or by removing it with TB and flashing the new apk with the apkinstaller?

You could simply delete the faux chrome and install maxthon from the market

Yup, tried that, still got stuck on kouma boot screen. Any ideas on a different browser that is like maxathon?

I use the stock browser personally, but many seem to prefer Boat (which i do use on my nexus 7, and it's actually a good browser)

Just restore your backup, and give it a go. :-) ( you did made a backup before deleting system apps, right? Lol)

I just rooted my prevail to this yesterday and when I make a phone call and the other person hangs up I get a failed notice about the phone and it asks me to force close the phone. Can anything be done about that?

Go to settings>applications>all(tab) and clear data for the dialer and reboot. I'm not sure that the phone fc'ing is even going to cause a problem, but that should clear it up

Here are some of my feature suggestion/requests for the next samsung prevail ctmod if there is gonna be another.

Get rid of the flashing red, green, blue, whatever it called, try some dots or something, a thinner progress meter and a fully customizable notification bar with HTML color code entry, transparent app drawer and make the clock on the lock screen customizable.

Just popped this on a Prevail that doesn't have service (just used as a PDA and fun toy and a little development)
My biggest complaint with the stock ROM was lack of space ~20mb, with this ROM over a 100. NOW its a usable device!

THANK YOU!

First let me thank you for the work you put into this ROM. Im wondering if I can get some help.

For some reason I have problems with this ROM, force closes and pretty poor performance. Im not sure if its something Im doing wrong or maybe a problem with the phone.

The force closes (mostly with google.calendar or something like that, but sometimes android or google framework) happen when I reboot usually if I unlock the screen as it comes up but other times as well. And I have just clunky performance where I sometimes have to sit and wait for the phone to respond, one example is dialing a phone number and the phone seems to freeze then all the buttons I hit appearing at once.

Here's the thing I ran the phone for a while with a stock rooted rom (all the bloat of boost's stuff, etc) and had none of these issues but one issue I had which made me mental was the phone one a day would just reboot over and over for a period of time due to what I think were link2sd issues I was unable to resolve no matter what I tried. But I want more apps on it than the tiny built in memory will allow, so I came back to this ROM because overall in look and simplicity I like it better than boost's bloated stuff but I have the same issues. Ive flashed the phone a bunch of times back and forth from stock, to stock rooted, to CTMod, but same issue every time. Is there any guidance someone can offer, maybe some tweaks? settings?

I followed the http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...od-rooting-prevail-dummies-written-dummy.html and followed it to the letter.

OK, I will try that. Is this something I should do once after install and never have to do again? Or is it something Ill have to do every so often? And does this somehow tie into the other issues I mentioned?

Normally you just do it once !! However, if you have a force close problem again, you might want to do it again !

Also, after you delete cache and data, you might want to go into CWM Recovery ( or boot Recovery from the phone ) and "Wipe Dalvik".....

Well I am working from a fresh install, got things set up and hopefully this works since Im giving this phone to my wife and she has no patience for technical stuff.
