So is the "special sauce" about the kernel itself. Shold I try it or stick with Franco, which I'm pretty happy with. Just curious what your thoughts are.

Some bionic tweaks to make it speedy, but mostly stock kernel tweaks for interactive gov. Truth be told, the bionic tweaks make it that much more optimized that Franco would probably fly.

Keen to try this! There's no need to restore or anything first is there? Just make a nandroid backup incase anything goes wrong, yeah?

When flashing an update to the ROM you're already on, all you need to do is wipe dalvik cache and cache (the script will do it for you, but justfor the sake of knowing) and reflesh whatever mods you had such as gapps/kernels/ect. They'll all get overwritten by the update because they are stored in your system partition.

Upon boot, you'll be upgraded and won't need to restore any data.

This method is called a "dirty flash", because you didn't wipe data. In the event you run into issues, its always best to do a clean flash (doing a factory reset before flashing)

Cool, thanks :)

I flashed it :)

There's a weird thing happening with my dash clock widget the weather icon is now a weird arrow thing? Not sure if that's something to do with the rom or not? EDIT: Seems to have been kernel related? After I flashed franco it went back to normal.

I'm probably going to reflash franco too and play with those earlier posted settings to see if I can get even better battery life!

My Gapps seem to be ok?

Hence the word "should" not "must." Most of the time a dirty flash will work without reflashing Gapps, but once in a while something strange will happen. Since it is so easy and fast, I now always just reflash the Gapps whenever I flash a ROM update.

Assuming that you're using Franco's kernel, why don't you try out my settings? They might benefit you in the long run :)

I'm on the latest build you posted, using franco and using the kernel settings built into DU to match your settings.

I have a question about the little check circles next to each setting; do I check them or leave them?

Thanks :)

Check them, that's to set it on boot.

If unchecked, when you reboot the settings will go back to default.

Awesome. I'll run these settings for a while and see how I like them. I'm a little concerned about performance dropping off with the processor so far underclocked but we'll see how it goes.

Kernel doesn't affect anything .apk related. I probably should have mentioned that a clean flash is recommended.

If you're using the settings that I posted previously - you won't have any issues with performance. You have to remember that this chipset is a powerhouse, which is already overkill on Android. Quite frankly, we don't need anything faster than 1.5GHz-1.7GHz. However, Qualcomm has to make money somehow - right?

When I run this ROM, my Tasker location based profiles don't work. When trying to rescan for my location hoping that would fix it, it appears to scan but does nothing. I tried to scan for cell towers and run my profile that way but it won't scan towers either. These profiles work fine on Cataclysm.

Any ideas?

No, not really. I don't use Tasker and I can't really help you without detailed information provided from a log or something of that sort. The odds are that nothing would even pop up in the log because there isn't a fatal exception taking place (FC). How does Tasker seek location? GPS, data, etc.. ?

As for Cataclysm, there's no way to know what Atl4ntis included in there because he or she has their sources closed (for whatever dumb reason).

I have Tasker set to get location info from the network (cell towers). So when I arrive at home or work, within a set radius, WiFi and sound modes are automatically changed to my liking without any interaction from me.

Is there a native setting in DU that will allow me to resize any widget? I know I can do it with xposed I can do it but if I can do it without it that's better.

That's not a ROM thing. It's a launcher thing. If you're using a 3rd party launcher (Nova, Apex, etc.) - you should be able to resize widgets.

I was on the latest version of DU (3/6/14) but went back to stock. Just could not get the stats to look correctly in the notification bar. See pick. Sounds like a small thing but was a deal breaker for me anyway. That and the screenshot feature............it loaded the toggle into the reboot menu ?? Have no idea why.

How did you want the stats to look?

As in the pick I posted. With the large percent indicator to the left of the battery Icon. In this example, the battery is being charged.

Again, nice there are choices. On Android, you should almost always get everything you want (well, maybe 99%).

I actually like the space saving from having the percent on the battery icon (however, you do have to make sure the text color and battery fill are different colors ;) ). I have the circle with percentage and love it. If you liked DU otherwise, make a request in the G+ community.

I find screen shot on the power menu much easier than using the button press combo (which still works). The power menu goes away before the shot is taken if you were worried about that.

Interesting, I don't remember seeing it like that before (I probably passed it over). It's hard to imagine that it would be removed as an option from stock though. If that's the case, it's probably easy to add back if you make a request as Hook suggested.

It's a good rom over stock if you give a chance!

Some FYI that I have experienced...............

Loaded the latest trial of DU (works99.9%...love it). Also loaded Franco r35 at the same time. The racing game Real Racing 3 would not work. I ran into this problem before so I used the DU Tweaks and changed the DPI to 480. Rebooted and nothing changed. I went to XDA and loaded the Multi DPI Play store V 4.6.17 for Kit Kat. It still did not work. I then changed the DPI back to 420, rebooted and all is 100% now.

I also have the latest paid APK from Franco. Everything I would be interested in trying out is already in the latest DU trial. Oh well...lol. Dev has been awesome and needs to be helped out :)
BTW .... Going to donate to DU. This rom is excellent !!

On another note, I see that the clock speed is set at 3.01GHZ even though if I am reading things correctly DU says it is set at 2265mhz?. I assume DU is doing this? Is that a correct assumption?

All in all, a great experience and lots of fun :)

If you're using Franco's kernel - that's something set in the config of his kernel. However, I have noticed (as a fellow Franco user) that the initial clock speeds vary all the time at flash. Sometimes I'm at 1728MHz and other times I'm at 2265MHz. It's crazy, but you should just set it to what you like and let it (the kernel) handle the rest.
