Is this normal? When I was on stock rom I used to have around 800mb free when no apps were open.

Also, what kernel are y'all using for Max battery life?

Also, also, I notice there is a quick settings toggle for fast charging but it says disabled. How can I enable it?

I'm not seeing that memory issue. However, it looks like you have all three functions enabled for recents as opposed to just applications/cache or applications itself. As for kernel, Franco r33 is the isht. As for fast charging, I would not recommend it. Plus, that's a kernel feature - not ROM. We only added it because people wanted it even though I was 110% against it. The N5 charges fast enough as is. Adding in a mod to make the battery charge faster will only potentially flub things up, which I am clearly not a fan of.

Cool, thanks :) with applications/cache it shows about 600mb free and with applications only it shows just over 1gb free! What gives? Which is the real life? I don't get it

I'll flash Franco r33 now and give it a whirl.

I use the advanced power menu module from xposed framework and choose it from the power menu.

That's also built into the rom. In the options for power menu you can enable Screenshot among other things.

Most of what is in exposed is available in the rom itself. Be careful when using both and having conflicting settings. I've heard it can cause issues.

Also @ lennydude, volume down +power still takes a Screenshot for me as well as the Power menu Screenshot button.

True story. I just tried vol down and power and it took a screen shot.

They all are real life. When you combine them, they are showing their combined efforts on the memory. Truth be told, Android does a very good job at managing memory, so one does not need to worry if RAM is running relatively low in Recents.

EDIT: On a side note, I just wanted to say how useless I think xposed framework is. It can cause a ridiculous amount of issues, which misleads users to thinking it's the ROM they are on when it isn't. Not to mention that DU is more feature rich than anything xposed is currently offering without any instability.

Finally updated to March second. Thanks for bringing back nav ring customization.

Looks like you added quite a few new settings. Haven't had time to play much yet, just updated at work a few minutes ago. :p

Out of curiosity, do you plan to add rom updates to the download center? Could OTA updates be applied to that or do you have to change the rom for OTA updates?

Just curious.

I haven't seen a need for anything with xposed until I found out about XVoicePlus module. Voice+ works great in another rom, so I may try that xposed module in DU until Google Voice gets official integration with Hangouts.

I don't believe we'll be switching to OpenDelta for OTA, but that's mostly because it's more work than it's worth.

So you'd recommend uninstalling xposed?

Also, what performance settings do you recommend? I noticed that the default for Franco seems to be to way under clock the processor (to like 1036mhz) is that to prolong battery life? Should I mess with it? I remember on the original kernel that came with DU is maxed out at like 2265mhz but now it seems I can push the processor all the way up to 3014mhz. Is it safe to run the processor a little fasted? I imagine it will potentially reduce battery life?

Thanks again, you've been super helpful already :) :) :)

Franco default clock speeds are the normal ones (22XXmhz). If yours is showing lower than that just bump it back up, you might be underclocked temporarily due to heat generation.

Pushing it higher than stock is called overclocking, and while it will increase the performance, if you push it to high the device will reboot. Overclocking will reduce battery life, but TBH you wont notice it unless its running at those higher speeds for prolonged periods of time (like games and such)

For more tips on franco, we've got a thread going here:
http://androidforums.com/nexus-5-all-things-root/794726-kernel-franco-kernel-3.html

It hasn't been posted in for a while, but we'll be more than glad to help (while keeping this one DU specific  )

As far as uninstalling xposed: I'd recommend it. Pretty much anything you can get through that is already in the ROM. Xposed is really for people wanting just a few bells and whistles from a custom ROM while still staying stock

Thanks again :) dropping knowledge as per usual.

I've uninstalled xposed and it seems the only thing I've really lost is the CPU temp in mg status bar, I can't seem to find a setting for that within DU but I think there are play store apps that do it?

Also, after rebooting after uninstalling xposed and its modules the CPU was clocked to 2265mhz seemingly by default so that's cool.

I've cranked it up to about 2500mhz, we'll see how it goes :)

Thanks :)

Honestly, the N5 is lightning fast with the Snapdragon 800. At this point, you couldn't really tell the difference between 1.5GHz and 2.25GHz.

My settings
  • CPU Clock: 300-1728
  • GPU Clock: 450
  • Governor: Interactive
  • UV: -75mV (YMMV)
  • Governor Control: hispeed_freq = 1728000, input_boost_freq = 1036000, sync_freq = 729000
  • IO Scheduler: CFQ
  • TCP Congestion: Westwood

How do you access all those settings? I only see CPU speed, governor and I/O scheduler .

If your using franco kernel, the best way to adjust settings is via Franco's app the play store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel.free

There's a paid version that helps support development, which is always helpful since we get this for free :)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel

Franco's a full time developer, every bit of "thanks" helps

As Rx said, it's better if you use FKU to modify the kernel settings. I should have a new build out within the next day or two that will actually change how DU handles kernel modifications because we removed Performance Control and replaced it with something more consistent and better overall.

EDIT: Just so you know - these settings net me 0% drain when idle. I'm still working on tweaking the I/O scheduler though.

I haven't gotten too much into kernels yet. Mostly because I don't understand all of the settings and haven't had enough time to research and figure it all out.

I saw on xda that you can go all night with 0-1 percent drain. That's crazy!

My idle drain varies. There's days where I go all day and lose only a few percent, but there's days where I can go an hour and lose 5 percent.

Assuming that you're using Franco's kernel, why don't you try out my settings? They might benefit you in the long run :)

I'm using the stock kernel right, but was thinking about mimicking your settings. I'll probably play a little this weekend.

I'll have the new test build up by then :p

I'm working on bringing up the Moto X (unified), so that's taking up all the little extra time I have.

But the new build won't use Franco and your settings will it? Either way, I'll probably flash the new build this weekend and probably check out Firefox os too just for fun.

Last weekend I used multirom and dual booted Ubuntu touch.
