Root [ROM][FINAL] CM7 7.2 RC1 - g60 style [7.11.12]

Ill +1 for this, altho i still remove other things like live wallpapers, magicsmoke wallpapers, visualization wallpapers and such, everything that has been removed saves me atleast 30 minutes anytime i do a fresh install

and normally with whats been done and what i do the rom only takes up about 85-91mb of internal memory

Well for what it's worth I just built right from the CM7 mainline source with some new device files I have been working on. Right now the ROM is sitting at 87MB and that includes all the bloat (rom manager, file manager, terminal app, etc.). Hopefully I can get these new device files to work, and then skim down the rom even more. Right now the only thing that works is the touch screen and the fact it boots. Hopefully my time spent on the device files will resolve some of our video issues and other problems we have been experiencing. Here's hoping :p

Hey what launcher do you guys recommend for cm7?

its usually a personal preference,

i typically use ADW Launcher cause of the built in system settings>ADW Settings also the 2 extra options of screen trransition and workspace loop thats in the built in settings and cause im used to it

i believe g60 before removing the bloatware from this rom was running Zeam Launcher on it

ive also heard good things about Go Launcher as well

i believe there is actually one more very popular one im forgetting

Hi g60madman, first, thank you for taking an already great ROM and improving it! I noticed that sysctl is being fired off at boot, but the sysctl.conf file is empty. I have found threads in other forums for other phones running GB ROMs that have some rather interesting kernel parameter tweaks.

Code:
# try to keep at least 4MB in memory
vm.min_free_kbytes = 4096

# favor block cache
vm.dirty_ratio = 90
vm.dirty_background_ratio = 55

# extremely favor file cache
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 20

# reboot when OOM happens
vm.panic_on_oom = 2

# wait 5 sec before rebooting when OOM
kernel.panic = 5

# currently experimenting
kernel.shmmax = 268435456
kernel.shmall = 16777216

I've tried these on your ROM and it does initially improve performance. Over several hours the cache obviously fills and it slows things down. My thought was to set up a cron job to dump the cache periodically. Do you see anything in the above parameters which could be redundant to what you have already done?

Thanks!!!!!

use v6 supercharger the latest one n use engine flush. that dumps apps cache. just create a quick widget using sm manager. thats wat i do :)

I like that you've gotten rid of most of the bloat ...saves me time from doing it myself haha

:thumbup:

If you want to shrink down the ROM, you could remove the ringtones you don't use. That's few more megs.

And before you install you could remove whatever straight from the ROM. After verifying first.

I highly recommend Zeam. Such a small and smooth launcher. Only complaint is that there is little customization abilities with it. Also, is there a CM7 option for your display to light up upon receiving a text? Right now I'm using a little app called SMS WakeUp to do this (and still deep sleeping) but cutting down on apps running in background is always good.

Amazing work with the ROM! I'm moving from the intercept and I'm in love with this phone now. Just a question, all the intercept roms used partitioned sdcards for cache and apps, does this mod use those partitions or can I delete them to regain space?

By default apps and app cache are not (unless a specific app uses the SD for cache or storage). If you do however want to move apps over to your SD you can use the following steps

Settings < CynogenMod settings < Applications < Manage Applications < Highlight the App you want < Click Move to SD card

You can only move over apps you have download from the PlayStore and not system apps. Glad your enjoying the ROM!

Yay, i did it! So i am using cm7 now and so far love it. Im still messing with it of course but so far so good. I havent had any problems like the screen being dim or anything. Havent messed with camera yet. But yeah, its awesome. And call me crazy or just excited, but can this improve signal, connection, and download speed? Im downloading 5 and 6mb in under a minute or so, where it use to take longer. I am in a different state and different coverage area but im still only getting 1 to 2 bars. But yeah it is downloading a lot faster. One other question...i see you got rid of most of the bloat but there is still a ton of stuff i dont use like email, music, car, and other things. How do i get rid of that stuff i dont use? Oh yeah, LOVE IT!!!

seems like can not flash to r0.10, won't finished booting up, going back previous version work fine...

Some one else had the same issue. I would recommend downloading it from a PC and copy to the phone. Seemed to resolve the problem for the other user.

Glad you enjoy it :) To make changes to apps you want to just download the ROM and open up zip with 7zip or something else. Then browse to

/system/app/

You can delete the following per your post
Email.apk
Music.apk

Then flash your newly edited ROM

As for Car home it's integrated into the build you will need to go one more step further by using ADB. Here is a post with more information Barebones - CyanogenMod Wiki

As the title states this is the final build of CM7 I will be releasing. After chatting with Mobstergunz and getting his permission I will be taking over development of his Gingerbread Rom 2.3.4. While this ROM is not built from source it does not mean I won't be taking bits and pieces from source code and adding it to the ROM. Since this is our best bet of having a 100% working ROM ie. HDMI, Video, Camera, etc. I felt this is the best place to focus my limited development time. So with that stay tuned for a new Gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM in the days to come.

No matter how much I wanted fully working CM7 build, I'm still a huge fan of stock or almost stock rom with few tweaks that suit me personally. If you think 2.3.4 is the best shot so be it. I'm pretty sure CM7 development won't stop, but building something so close to the *official" rom with working everything(!) would be just awesome.
I appreciate all the work and your time and looking forward for new 2.3.4 releases!

Aw, I prefer CM7 to stock. The plethora of other features in CM7 make up for the missing ones. :p

I hardly ever use the video camera. Just now I took a short video of my son and the sound was way out of sync. Has anyone experienced this? I'm still on r.04 (cause I love how stable it is).

Instead of continuing the 2.3.4 ROM, why don't you just build AOSP 2.3.7 from source? Same thing, am I wrong?

What I'm doing is trying to build peter alfonso's bugless beast but I'm getting the same thing I get on every AOSP build I do: recovery bootloop.

The problem with building from Google AOSP source is there is no hdmi built into the code by default for our specific device. Also we do not have prebuilt device files. All the work that all the previous dev's have done on the MT is simply amazing. It's like taking a 50 chapter novel and deleting 48 chapters and then asking you to fill in the blanks. Because Motorola and Virgin Mobile have not released any of the original source code for Froyo everything was reversed engineered. It's why we have had so many issues with HDMI, Bluetooth, Camera, Audio, Video, and you name it. Until Motorola or Virgin Mobile releases any real code on what they used to develop this phone it's left to all of the developers to figure it out.

As for CM7 and CM9 it will always be a constant uphill battle for any dev because our releases are unofficial. Each time CM does an update to the code it causes break fix each and every time to our phone. Even looking at each one of my builds I released, while I fixed one thing something else happened to the code that caused some other issue. Sadly we may never see a perfect CM7, CM9, or AOKP until we get a true set of device files, and also source code for our library files. Even though the 2.3.4 was put together using two ROM's almost everything works perfectly on the phone. This is why I feel my time spent on Gingerbread will be more useful to the community since Virgin Mobile will not be delivering Gingerbread to our phone.

My camera is still thumping against the glass ;o especially in video, when i play it back i can literally hear it. Is the only fix for this to turn of auto focus?

Sadly yes....You could however try and use another camera.apk to see if it works better.

Just so you know, I did not replace any drivers in the original Sharp 2.2.2 ROM port. Plus every single GB X6 variant works perfectly except the phone. I'm still learning android, so this is just an observation. So, what exactly is stopping us from using their prebuilt drivers?

Sence they are prebuilt, we don't know how to look in the box, sort of speak. We don't know what they want for calls and stuff. Plus the code could, and is most likely, flawed. It would be nice to be able to adjust the code to meet our desires, insted of working around the mistory box with unlabled buttons.
