Root [ROM] GingerSteem Extreme II for the LG Esteem MS910

Well I can report some progress, once again with help from another thread on AF.

This is being posted from a wifi tethered Esteem, using Firefox with the User agent change plug in set to Iphone. Not perfect, but far better than what I had!

Also, by using Wifi Tether 3.1-beta 11, I was able to turn on AP mode rather than Ad-hoc, so now my other phones and tablets can use the connection.

So it would appear that Metro checks the user agent before transferring data.

Anyone out there able to tether without restriction of any type?

BTW - I was unable to get CWM USB tether to work at all. I installed the app on my pc, downloaded the lg adb drivers, but I get "Phone not recognized" every time I try to connect. Oh well, at least I got this far!

Now I have an LG Connect that I need to root. My understanding is its harder than the Esteem, soon I will find out!

Well i have done a complete reinstall to original once before(I believe so) i was being walked though it and it seemed like my phone first got restarted to factory setting and then after i was walked though on how to put roms on. everything seemed to have gone fine with that but allot of apps (random ones) would just freeze up and crash. even the home thing at one time or another has frozen up and crashed. So i take this back to something somewhere just isn't right. like in accounts when i hit on social+ setting's, the phone will just turn off and then back on. there were times when (random) apps will do this too. I figure i have something somewhere out of wack.

Have you tried "fix permissions" in recovery:confused:
 
Great, ****ing great, now my phone won't even turn on. I restored backup to Stock ROM I just couldn't stand this bloatware you call ''Gingersteem'' and phone boots to Clockworkmod and nothing else happens, even If i just connect charger

Your phone is defective :sly: Never had an issue with this ROM. And That doesn't make any sense. You say your phone doesn't even turn on but then you said it boots to clockwork mod. :o

Then it doesn't even boot up, I tried installing the ROM again as it's still on the SD card and nothing happens, just like trying recovery, I don't know how to put something on SD if it's in Recovery

update to zvd with the lg update tool after you restore back to stock then install Black Plague adn flash a diff theme if you dont like how it looks or redownload GSE and copy to your sdcard by using adb, nav to install zip from sdcard > choose zip from internal/external sdcard (which ever you want to use) then:

 adb push blabla /sdcard/
blabla being the name of the zip.

And I will add this, you need to chill, this ROM has already been proven to work great, so the error is on your end, not with the ROM. READ the frigging instructions and follow them to a T and you will be golden. My guess is you have a bad dl or not doing something right, or just plain have a defective Esteem.
 
So I'm slowly getting into what I can do with a rooted phone, but I'm curious as to what is necessary for using roms. I just updated to ZVD, and I want to know if my s/w has to match the version of s/w that a ROM I'd based on.

Doesnt HAVE to but best that it does.

First would like to welcome you to AF!! We have three different roms out for zvd, try them out and see wat rom your phone likes.

Would you tell me if or what apps is good to open words or excel, I notice once the Extreme II is install, words and excel stop opening up
