Root [ROM][ICS][4.0.3][4-7-12][WIP] ics-deck-evo [pre-beta15]

I believe it is all deck's work as he said in the OP of the xda thread he's been releasing builds via twitter before creating the thread, and also that it's built from source. I noticed a big difference with the keyboard in landscape mode, P4 was very laggy for me there. I also felt the launcher was a bit smoother on deck's, but not a massive difference. It's awesome that we already have two separate build though!

Yep, you are correct:) Thanks for the correction that this rom is built from source. I must have misread the op on xda:(;)

Having 2 builds being built from source is good:D

I flashed Pre-A3 last night. The ICS looks fantastic. Very clean. And very nice fonts.
I had an issue with Market not opening nor the browser. Not a big deal as I just wanted to look at it.
I'll try Pre-A4 in the next couple of days.

Psousa, Thanks for the heads up on the $.10 apps.:D

I have it downloaded, ut has anyone tried it yet? I saw that deck said it's just some back end changes so wondering if it's worth checking out, or if it's just a bit more stable version of pre-alpha 3.

For some reason, some apps don't open. Boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache and the issue will be gone. But before it boots up, the applications will do an upgrade, then the phone comes on

Nah I would like to see a working camera and then give it a serious go for like a week or so.

+1 to a working camera:D

But I would tend to believe that the working camera probably will be fixed be the new year. It seems cyclical with the AOSP roms, each source code comes out around Nov, we get a working build by Dec and then a stable release, with most things working, including camera, by Jan. ;):)

Love ICS. Beautiful, clean, fast, smooth.

I am struggling to figure out my calendar and contacts. I flashed the ROM twice, including once after a factory reset / wipe. I never got a setup screen where I could log into my google account and then all of my google stuff is magically synced (contacts, emails, calendar, etc)

I have manually added a syncing of my email account, but there are no options to sync contacts or calendar.

I understand ICS has replaced contacts with people, but the People app doesnt seem like it wants to import my existing google info. There is a place to create an exchange account but this doesnt seem like the right direction. This also doesnt solve the calendar problem, although that app is just force closing atm so there may not be an issue there. The People app seems to be working, I think I just can figure it out.

Any ideas?

Well, I reflashed This tonight, set up a few things and then made a Nandroid of it. After I restored my Phone Rom, booted it up, then in Boot Manager deleted a slot and flashed the Nandroid of ICS into it and it worked great.

It is a great looking Rom. I can't wait to see what the true Sense ICS roms look like.

Good rom. Still needs some bugs to be fixed but overall its a good rom. I will try it as a daily driver for a couple of days and test some stuff to see if i can find any more bugs.

What is the gapps file for? If I flash this do I need that as well? And is it just something else I need to flash? Also, is there a kernel included? I use mostly mik roms so far and they are all inclusive usually.

gapps stands for google apps. since it is licensed and owned by google, they connot be included by the devs in the rom so you have to flash them seperately. you will need to flash that to get things like the market or gmail. and yes all roms have kernels inlcuded. however, with this particular rom there is no custom kernel yet. so you will have to use the kernel that comes with this one. i think that it is tiamat, but i'm not sure.

Yes gapps needs to be flashed. Otherwise you won't have a market or be able to sign into your Google account.

And the kernel is included. It's a modified tiamat 4.1 kernel. Don't try to flash another kernel since this is the only one that works with ics so far.

Edit: darn ninjas!

Im currently running pre- alpha 5 and it seems a little better. Some of the bugs have gone but new ones have appeared as well. Some of the issues Ive noticed that are still occurring at least on my phone, are, the freezing of the screen sometimes when trying to add an app to the home screens or when just browsing threw your apps, the market not allowing me to buy apps. I tried buying beautiful widgets and some other 10cent apps and it wouldn't let me. something about network error but i could download any other app. i had to download them from my computer. Another thing I've noticed is that it forces close some of my apps. The camera still dosent work, and same goes for gallery. One of the things i also notice is that the gradation from top to bottom that indicates hardware acceleration isnt there any more.( At least on my phone) There is some other things that don't function properly but are minor issues.
Over all this rom seems to be coming along quit nicely. Cant wait for the stable version to come out to use as a daily driver. Nice Work Devs:D. Will be looking forward to donating for your hard work.:)

Definitely moving in the right direction.

Pre A 5 is very nice. Same issues with some things not working. Also it wouldn't let me scroll past page 3 of my widgets without closing the launcher. Not sure why.

What surprises me the most is how much stuff the Xplod Rom had that ended up coming on ICS. Like the 4 spots to put apps that always stay on your screen no matter which one you go to. And a similar app drawer. Neat stuff.

Look forward to an Alpha or Beta build.
There is already and Alpha build for the Samsung Fascinate. A friend has that phone.

I like pre5, but it's not as smooth as the gingerbread aosp stuff. I certainly wouldn't expect it to be as smooth obviously, but it's definitely something I notice when flashing the ICS builds. But I am really digging the feel of it, but certainly enough issues at this point to keep me from flashing it to my phone for anything past a few hours. It's cool being able to sample the progress that is being made though.
