I finally got around to installing the May 6 build. Here's what I did:
1. Backup
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik cache
5. Install ROM
6. Install symlinked Gapps (I'm not using Google Now but I wanted to try out the symlinked)
7. Flash Touch Kernel #3 (Not sure what, if any, touch kernel is included in this build)
8. Restore my SMS/MMS and apps with Titanium Backup
9. Up and running!
Everything is FANTASTIC! There's still a bit of lag here but it doesn't come close to how bad it was with the April 17 build. In fact, it's barely noticeable at all. Also of note is that the "new" touchscreen drivers make a world of difference. It feels like my phone is brand new again! THANK YOU
I've used the GPS/Navigation a few times for work and it works flawlessly. As I've noted in previous posts, my phone isn't plagued with the crappy GPS that some MTs seem to have. As with the April 17 build, GPS locks in fast and accurately even when I'm driving on the Interstate.
The one problem I had was documented and solved back on Page 10 of this thread, and that's the terrible backlit settings. Trying to use my phone outside or anywhere with bright lighting was an exercise in futility. I just got done plugging in the backlight settings that Mazer Rackham posted and it seems to have done the trick. It's dark outside now so I won't be able to test it fully until tomorrow, but I could see the difference just by sticking my phone under a bright lamp.
As far as I can tell, everything else works perfectly - or as perfectly as I could hope for. Unless a major breakthrough (i.e. video camera) happens, I can't see any reason why I would ever need to switch from the current build. All in all, I am extremely happy with this ROM now. Kudos to everybody who continues to breathe life into our tired old workhorse of a phone.
