Root [ROM] Mikfroyo - ALL Versions

I am running my setcpu up to 1150 mhz overclocked. Does this eat the battery life? My battery lift is not what it used to be on my nonrooted evo. Would battery life be better if I switched kernals, or got rid of set cpu? Would the rom still run smooth?
Thanks

Is it locked at only 1150? Playing a game?

Yes it will eat battery. You should set up multiple profiles and give them priority ratings. For instance I set screen off as top priority and set to 245. Then i have a a couple low battery profiles with lower ranges, then i have a charging profile which is the only time i run it locked and overclocked. my normal use profile is pretty much what the evo does stock.

Setcpu will increase battery life if used correctly, you cant just run it at 1150 all the time, well you can, but you are seeing the consequenes. Not to mention things get hot that way and you may see other consequences. Also you should check out what the different governors/scaling is.

Kernels can also affect battery life. You can get havs, more havs, less havs, sbc, and no sbc. HAVS controls voltage supplied based on load, lower load, lower valotage, theoretically saves battery, more havs does this to a larger degree and less havs conversely, though more havs can be "buggy" on some peoples phones. SBC has to do with trickle charging and allows your battery to be charged to the full 100% there is a long explanation here, too long for this thread...anyhow just be aware that there jury is still out on the affects of sbc on the battery.

[GUIDE]

Very basic governer description courtesy AKAZABAM

"You'll also want to do some research on the various governor choices. It basically determines when to change the CPU frequency between the min and max under certain conditions. Governors like ondemand and conservative are based on load. As the load goes up, so does the frequency, and vice versa. The difference between those specific two are that ondemand is quicker to raise the frequency, and more reluctant to lower it. Performance better, but battery life is worse. A governor like smartass, on the other hand, is based on more than just load. It's also based on screen on/off state, battery life, temperature, etc."

Also, as Urge to Dance noted dont set to SA with setcpu

I have my scaling set at 460-1150, with a Smartass govenor. I'll try using profiles, which would mean I need to use a different govenor right? If I want to give my evo the ability to overclock when the screen is on (when it needs to...so fluxing the cpu's speed), is there a way to do that without killing the battery? I am shooting for the best performance and batterylife combo I can get.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

OK first scaling and governor are synonymous, don't confuse them. Scaling is what a governor does. I don't use smartass as its not recommended for use with setcpu.

Overclocking will always drain the battery ffaster there is no way around that. Its a higher frequency and pulls a higher load. We can counteract that effect by underclocking when the phone is in screen off or if you don't really need the CPU overclocked.

You can use a different governor with every profile. I use performance when set to overclock, on demand for basic usage, and conservative and battery saver when I'm running low cpu speeds and really need battery saving like on my battery under 25 percent profile. The standard profile can be changed at will if none of the other profiles conditions are met so if you meed a quick boost of speed you can just click on the setcpu notification and change it quickly.

There are other reasons the battery will drain also...check this out for basic things you can do such as changing background data and syncing.

you can also use apps like juice defender which will in affect restrict apps from using data for you. it has different profile sets and a list of apps that should remain unaffected called a whitelist. If you want something to always be able to dl data.

I would recommend not using Juice defender, i found that it can sometimes slow things down and also mess things up, plus when I had it on my phone I compared it to my brothers and found almost no difference whatsoever, also it is not a good idea to any task killer as they can mess things up sometimes.

I assume it is different for all. I havent seen any issues. I suggest going through steps in the comprehensive battery guide first and formeost obviously. JD has given me no issues in my set up but there are sooo many variables. Oddly I am also running Kings Ultra Unleashed with netarchy 4.3.2 cfs-nosbc-havs-less also.

That being said I have been successfully using juice defender with a marked increase in battery life. I really only use it at night as i sleep. That way I dont have to leave my battery on charge for numerous hours adding to the drop when i unplug it and i will still have sufficient battery in the morning to last me all day at work. Then charge when i get home to full, unplug it and turn on JD for bed time again.

If I leave my phone on charge all night and unplug it i get a 10 percent drop almost immediately as im running no sbc. If i enable JD instead it drops only a couple percent then i wake up and kill it.

I suppose user beware as it doesnt work for everyone but nothing really does...

Yeah I guess it just all depends on the phone and how much you use it, when I ran it I saw almost no change at all. I haven't tried it on King's Rom yet, only on stock unrooted.

I get what you are saying, I have left it on during the day before and got like .08% increase in battery but then again that had more to do with what i was doing with setcpu (overclocking) and that i was roaming and forcing data use. It can only do so much...works great to save my battery at night, so thats where i use it...have to know its limitations i guess...

im not sure who gets to fix these glitches, but here goes:

  1. can not use hot spot with 4g at all, just doesnt work!
  2. when using swipe the friggin tips and tutorial pops up out of no where, all the time...uninvited naturally
  3. the rom has frozen my evo a few times where i had to reinstall it to make it work
  4. mikfroyo market turns into market immediately

there you have it folks:D:rolleyes::eek:

1) The hacked Sprint hotspot is great because it's free, but as a result, it doesn't work with 4g. If you want to use 4g, you need to use android wifi tether, which will work with 4g.
2) menu->settings->language and keyboard->swype->uncheck "enable tip indicator".
3) What exactly happened? Just froze? Reboots? Won't boot back up? Was this with the stock kernel or a custom one? Any other mods? Were you using setcpu?
4) You mean the market lost the mikfroyo theme? Assuming that's what you mean, it happened because Google has the ability to push out changes to the market apk (vending.apk). As the version changed between when the ROM was released and now, everyone is going to lose the theme. Here is the latest market apk with the theme:

Shot in the dark: Anyone been able to use MikFroyo to use wireless tether a nookcolor over 4g? I'm having a rough time getting it past 'obtaining IP address'. If you have it working, I'd love to know what kernel and version of wireless tether you are using

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I checked this forum as well as XDA and haven't been able to find a solution.

I'm running MikFroyo 4.5 with Netarchy 4.3.2 cfs more havs nosbc.

When I run Adobe Reader, I get a Force Close error.

I cleared the cache, but I'm not sure what else to try.

Any ideas?

Edit: Never mind, and uninstall, reinstall from the Market seems to have done it. Wasn't sure if that was a good idea with it being part of the ROM, but I guess it doesn't affect anything.

I just got the new version of mikfroyo and the setcpu does not work for me? Any solutions as to why it isn't running. And also is hulu available on this version?

1) What kernel are you using? If it's stock, you need to disable the perflock in setcpu, and even at that, you won't be able to overclock until you flash a custom kernel. If that's not your problem, can you expound on what you mean, exactly, by it not working?
2) Hulu should already be installed. Do you not have the app in your app drawer?

I accidentally denied super user permissions to the app. And hulu is already installed on the phone but I can't seem to get it to play videos. And what kernel would.I need to use to overclock? And BTW thanks for always fast replies and being helpful akazabam it is appreciated

Ah, yeah, that'd cause a problem :). If you want to overclock, you'll need to flash a custom ROM. Netarchy or ziggy's is a good choice. You can find information about which one to flash in various threads around here. Let me know if you need some directions. As for hulu, what exactly is it doing? If it's just showing an hourglass, you need to tap on it, then it should play. If that's not working, it could be a flash issue. Have you updated flash at all since flashing the ROM?

I don't think that I updated flash. Can I not overclock using mikfroyo?

Tried to flash the red carbon clock for mikfroyo 4.5 when it rebooted now no clock at all on home screen. Anyone try that clock yet. Thanks all

About the mikmarket and its theme...i retain my mikmarket theme because i freeze the market update app in titanium and it leaves it alone, no google you may not push your update on me.

My phone did not like the themes i tried to install, i got the blue theme which i flashed, then i had to use metamorph to get the lockscreen i wanted, everything ok to this point...then i use metamorph to grab the notification bar i want and it goes to hot restart and freezes on boot animation...had to restore. I was just giving mik a chance but i cant seem to theme it the way i want...:(

2 Questions

1) Are the 4.4 mods compatible with 4.5? I can't find many mods that are specifically for 4.5, but I would really like to change up some of the theming.

2) Why is SA not recommended with SetCPU?
