Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM7 build 2013-03-03

This is a continuation of the first. What I did was changed the size of the buttons. I think what was happening was the buttons were too small to render the numbers. If I'm wrong I can look to some other ideas.

Second test keyboard

That one didn't do it either, ryder.

I don't really think it's a rendering problem because:
1. all the keys are the same size and only the ones mentioned in my prior post don't show the secondary number function.
2. It's not just that the button doesn't have the number ON it... a long press won't even give you a number in the list. You have to actually switch to the "numbers as primary function" keyboard.

AAAAAaahhh, I see.

Ok, new stratagy.

Thanks for this tried it did factory reset fresh install of rom first first then followed your instructions keyboard has same issue still just FYI.

Lol. I was just kidding. Basically I skipped CM7 so I have no expectations, or any idea of how it runs. Coming from ics it seemed slow at first. Then trying to load the simpsons, or even play, was right at the brink of not being able to. Now the game loads and is ready to play, and window transitions seem faster. I'm just not familiar enough to know how it works. Plus the camera not working may be the key to finally get full cam on ics.

Well I installed it and messed around for an hour or two. I can't say I noticed anything markedly better (or worse), except of course the camera. I don't really have any games to try.

If anyone has a suggestion of something to test, I'll try it.

mtuser & dsmryder -
I just pulled the keyboard from the 2013-03-03 build, and it's fine.
I had a copy of the ROM still, so I figured might as well try it.

thangfish you are a trooper. I appreciate everything you do around here.

Well there has only been 4 downloads so far, so there probably isn't much demand for this. I'll test a lil bit to see if most everything is working. End of summer everybody wants something done before winter. So I have been busy lately, but should have some time since winter slows thing up a bit. My biggest thing is if everything except the camera works, we could get a 2fer out of this, an updated kernel for CM7 and a working camera in ICS and above. Especially since the ICS kernel is one of the most stable, it could clear up a few issues of random reboots or any of the reboots for that matter in CM7.

Any way, thanks again for all of your efforts to help the community out. I know I've learned a few things from you.

Anybody who wants to help out can check the bottom of the last page for the test ROM, and throw it through it's paces. It is stable and most everything should work, it just hasn't been thoroughly vetted. The camera doesn't work though.

Thanks to anybody who helps out.

Just wondering if you guys have problems with the GPS fixing? Sometimes mine won't do it at all or will take a good 8 minutes to fix (which is inconvenient when I get lost on the road). Is it just cause it's the Triumph or Virgn Mobile? Or do you guys have same problem?

Also occasionally (like once a month) my wifi and 3G stops working even after battery pulls or permission fixes, I always wipe and re flash and restore data. Anyone else have that problem?

Well, simplly speaking, the GPS reciever on the MT is weak. chairshot has done wonders for it using the data side of the A-GPS, but still it can have weakness.

I use GPS everyday (to play Ingress).
Our gps is indeed slower than most phones, probably due to complete lack of agps support in the Triumph.

My experience shows that agps makes absolutely no difference whether on or off, updated or not. Mine hasn't been updated in over 200 days.

Here's what I do:
I always run GPS Status from the Play store before opening an app that needs GPS.
This app shows the satellites being received. Wait for lock (always about 2 min from cold start).
This has shown that occasionally (maybe once or twice a month) no satellites are being received. I don't know what causes this, but a toggle of GPS via notification button fixes it.
In this case, I believe an app may never get a lock.
So, when I start GPS Status, if I don't see a couple satellites show up within about 5 sec or so, I toggle GPS off for about a 5 count, toggle it back on and then I'll see some immediately. Wait for a lock (GPS Status will show a toast with seconds to lock) and THEN launch Ingress (or navigation or whatever). Usually takes 2 min cold. Warm, it's never more than 1 min, and many times just a few seconds.

There is no point in enabling agps update in GPS Status.

I use this procedure several times daily, and it hasn't failed me yet.

It always shows from 2 to 9 satellites on mine, but it still takes minutes to lock or not at all. How long does it take yours to lock on usually?

Thangfish are you using GPS Status & Toolbox, GPS Status - Test & Fix, or just GPS Status?

It just says GPS Status, so I went to play store to check and it's listed as GPS Status and tool box.
I used to use GPS test, with the same results (until it started serving ads).

I really don't think it matters though, as I don't believe it actually speeds it up or anything. It just lets you see that it's working, instead of just blindly waiting for an app to lock and not knowing if anything is really happening.

It has to be something systemic with the network. I know that the issue started when you flashed the ROM, but with a flash to a stock ROM you narrowed to the network.

@dsmryder. Yes i called VM IT was indeed our local network was down. 3g is working now.thanks dsm ryder. Does google market update itself to playstore on stock rom?. Going to reflash to cm7 soon as i get everything o stock working.

So glad to be back on a
Moto Triumph
Love this phone

Anyone have problems with .gifs? When I view a gif, about 40% of the time it works fine, and the rest of the time it does nothing and just acts like a picture. Even if I save the gif as a file and try and open it with the "GIF Viewer" (built-in, not downloaded), it won't open it. Any ideas?

Only to suggest Quickpic from the play store, and then uninstall Gallery completely.

Wow, works so much better! Always thought Gallery sucked bunghole, but never had the motivation to go out and get a new picture browser. So much faster and gifs work great! (had to just clear the Gallery data since it won't let you uninstall though).

Thanks man!

You're rooted, so you can uninstall Gallery if you want to... it tends to want to run in the background too much for me.

If you have a file explorer with root access, you can just delete it, or Titanium backup has an option to uninstall any system app, in addition to others. Just be aware the uninstalling the wrong system app can cause issues.
