Root [ROM] MTDEV-CM9 build 20130120 [BETA]

The simplest way I know to install Ubuntu is with Ubi. It's a loader that works through Windows and would love to install on an external HDD.

I would not recommend using WUBI just yet. It's set to be dumped from Ubuntu 13.04. Might make upgrading a royal pain. I can show you how to burn an Ubuntu disc if you need some help. Took me some trying on my first time as well. Since you have Windows 8, burning an Ubuntu ISO is very simple. I have Windows 8 as well so I can walk you through it step by step if needed. Burning an ISO is simple once you get it down. Does this PC have a CD ROM drive? Also, with regards to the BIOS, make sure you have secure boot disabled, and that you change the boot order so that it boots first via the CD ROM drive, and the hard drive is last or close to last. What's your computer's model? Maybe then I can do some Googling for you. :)

p6-2327c is the model number. Yes, secure boot is off and will boot from CD, just saying I have never had a pc that was more of a pain to work with, than this HP. I have already burned ubuntu 10.04 to a CD, it'll install, it just simply won't boot. And yes, it is the 64-bit version. I have done this before, many times in fact. I'm just not sure what the deal is here.

Well, a lot of times when you take a new PC and put an old (now end of life for desktop) Linux distro on it, the drivers may not work correctly. Try burning 12.04 LTS (make sure it's updated) and see if that helps. I know everyone at MTDEV wants to stick with Ubuntu 10.04, but I have built a while back on 12.04 and it worked. There may be a few different packages needed, but everything should work. My PCs won't run Ubuntu 10.04 correctly either, but the newer versions work pretty darn well. Besides, even though nobody seems to love Unity on the newer Ubuntus, it's gotten better since 11.04, trust me. I don't think Ubuntu 10.04 even supports UEFI natively.

That may be a good catch. I'm getting old and still remember loading DOS before Windows. Heck, I had a Commodore 64. That's 64KB of memory, not bit;)
I had trouble with my new 3TB drive. I thought that I could load Windows to a < 2TB partition and use the rest for storage. Oops.
 
If you have a reasonable PC (the key is you need the "virtualization extensions" on your processor), you can run virtualbox and install Linux in there. It's free, USB works in it (although you have to reboot the slave OS sometimes because the virtual USB driver gets stuck). I do this the opposite way by running Windows in Linux. Say goodbye to rebooting forever =]
 
Hi Guys, Ive recently flashed MTDEV CM9 for Virgin Mobile Moto Triumph after experiencing messaging problems with CM7. After my flash i have no service what so ever and am unable to access my mobile network settings to see if its set up for CDMA. I have done all the necessary wipes and restores to no avail. Solutions would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
That depends on which you flashed. If you flashed the main ROM on the download page, it has that problem. Try the 20130320 version in the testers. I've been using it since it was posted and haven't had any issues.

It sounds like you did this already, but to be sure, did you try flashing the STOCK ROM? It's on the MTDEV site. The one labled unroot will restore the recovery also, the Stock won't.
 
I allways flash b-randon's 100% stock rom before i flash any other mod. just to restore factoy settings. but thanks for the tip. im going to try the tester version that was recomended. I will update if it works.

rpm14, thanks man. i now have service. just as an expidition to this i will post an in depth update as to weather or not my messaging issue was resolved from this and also post it on the appropriate threads for others with the same problem. Wow the cool thing about the 3/20 build is the camera ( rear) worked the first time I used it. I was like yay but next time I tried no dice it wouldn't load. You most likely already know this but I thought I would mention it anyway. If you need a logcat I mabey could get one if I try to reproduce it. Let me know.

I'm testing on the current test build now. It works for me on my DEV phone. Now it doesn't have service, but maybe the issue is related to something other than the ROM itself???

I will check into your new test build and not install any apps to be sure. That its not something I did.

Edit: figured out what I did. Do NOT hit the front camera it will cause it to get stuck and force stopping or clearing the cash will not fix it. That was a long morning.

Edit two I cleared data not the cache whoops

From then to now it has been me chasing my tail.
Basically it was just me trying to move to what I hope is more stable code. I don't know how many people remember how irritating it was when CM7 was starting out and CyanogenMod would update and kill our build. I'm not even sure if I ended up changing any of the code by switching branches. I do have one section I need to checkout because it killed the build. It's next on my list.

Anyway, this build should be the same as the last. I just can't test the cell radio parts on my DEV phone.
 
just installed the 4/14 test build, and I can say that it does in fact have working data, battery stats, doesn't work but that really doesn't matter, everything else seems to work the same as the 3/20 tester

I thought I fixed that in a previous build. Thanks, I'll look into that.
