Root [ROM] Myn's Warm Z

hey guys, two quick things...are we sure that flashing the data governor and then performings Mr. Eds tweak will break my 3g and I should not do this? Also i went ahead and flashed 2.6.0.1 and it is my current recovery but rom manager doesnt reflect that. it still says 2.5.0.7, not a big deal just wondering why it doesnt know i flashed 2.6.0.1.

Not 100% it will break things but definitely will cause some issues. The data governor tweak will cause FC while trying to access the wireless settings. From my experience it seems to also cause some FC when you try to access the EPST menus. Gonna do some testing

I tried but I just can't grow to love this ROM. It's pretty nice but something about it is throwing me off. Maybe I'll check it out again over the weekend when I have more time.

Do we know if one or the other is causing the issue or if it is in tangent? For instance, if I flash the data governor fix and dont do the profile update are we ok? If i do the profile update without the governor fix are we ok? I assume the proxy setting dont really figure in here. Do we need me to test one of the scenarios out?

So here are my findings so far:

1) A restore of data profile and reboot will cause your profile to be wiped out. This will break your 3g since you won't be able to log into the network. This method works with older Sense v1 ROMs. It would allow you to re-provision your phone with Sprint.

2) The epst.apk used in Warm Z is the same one used in Mik's 4.3 ROM. The version reads 2.1-update1

3) Changing the proxy values in the advanced menu doesn't seem to break anything.

Flashing the data governor fix will not cause issues outside of the FC while trying to access the wireless settings as noted in Myn's post on xda. If you try to restore your data profile it WILL break 3G bc it wipes out all of the values in your profile.

I have done both with no issues. I did the data trick and the data governor trick immediately after flashing z with no issues.

Not sure why trying it again last night caused issues other than 3g was confirmed not working at the tower.

i just flashed the governor removal. I cant restore a profile till i get home today because I am in roam at work. I'll test it then.

hmm im not sure when the governor removal causes an fc. I cant get to the xda forum at work but my wireless setting access seems to be working fine with no fcs.

From Myn's Thread:

Data throttling governor removed (Thanks BThomas22x) (Optional Install) Note this mod will disable the Menu | Wireless & Networks | Mobile Networks settings (force close). An unfortunate side effect of this mod.

hey guys thanks so much for all the quick replies I'm working right now and trying to do this in between customers haha i will report back once I get the opportunity. thanks again I will try

Before you do that, remember that any nandroid backups you've made in Clockwork cannot be restored once you switch to RA. You're getting that error because you have CW 3.0.0.5. If you want to stick with CW, you need to downgrade to 2.6.0.1. That will work just fine. RA is great too, but just understand the consequences of switching to a different recovery.
how do i downgrade to the 2.6.0.1? is it simple or no? if you could give me some direction I'd appreciate it

Hey jdugan, as akazabam and stevcha have hit on, you need a recovery capable of using amend scripting. Anyhow in order to help make your decision i just wanted to point something out.

In order to get cw 2.6.0.1 that akzabam has mentioned you'll have to grab a .zip and flash it because as i learned yesterday rom manager does not offer 2.6.0.1 any longer. SO its not quite as simple as clicking flash 2.6.0.1 in rom manager like it would be with RA. The link on akazabams signature will take you to the appropriate .zip and give instructions. Which are very simple too.

You can flash RA recovery from rom manager but you cant use it to restore a backup you made in cw so you'll be flashing between recoveries to go back to an image you backed up with cw.

Pros and cons to both, just saying.

youre the man, thanks guys so much!!

yeah if you need any help just ask but its only like 6 steps and the hardest part is naming the file correctly.
i added the zip file to my sd card and renamed it PC36IMG.zip but when i hboot into recover and go to install it the file name says PC36IMG.zip.zip how do i rename correctly and what exactly do i do with it. Just install that zip and then after i do that remove it? I guess I don't understand completely what I need to do or how i rename it correctly....

take off the .zip in windows, its already named, your system is set to hide file extensions most likely for known extensions.
Just name it PC36IMG in windows, copy it to the sd card, and you should be good to go!

Ok I renamed it to PC36IMG and when i went into Hboot then recovery it was named PC36IMG.zip and I tried to install it and it said installation aborted. I thought I understood this whole thing, now I seem to be a little lost. Could someone walk me through exactly what I need to do to make sure I don't screw anything up..I'm so frustrated with this lol I want to use this ROM

Ya, I did that part, then went to Hboot and then recovery and do I install it now? or do I try to install the new ROM now or what? Guess I'm not sure what to do next, and thanks again guys for the info and for the patience lol

You need to flash it from hboot, not recovery. If you turn the phone off then back on while holding volume down, you'll get to hboot. If the PC36IMG.zip is named correctly, hboot will scan for it, and find it, then prompt you to flash it.

Ok running it now, it didn't find it the first time, I believe it did this time, I will let you know. Now once I flash it, it will reboot my phone then I can load the Myn Warm Z zip from ROM manager or from recovery or....what do i do next?

Flash from Recovery. Just reboot your phone into Recovery. Then flash/install the rom from the SD card.

Once it is done flashing the file, reboot back into hboot, then select recovery. Verify that you have the new version. It should look different. Once you do that, you can flash the ROM from recovery.
