Root [ROM][PORT] Sharp ROM 2.2.2 for the Triumph (Updated: 12/16/12)

Many thanks to jjohn7293 for the "Sense Sharp" Theme.

Here is how it looks on my phone.

Click on a picture to see enlarged version. Third photo is of between screens transition called Sphere.

What did you use or flash to get the status bar to look like that?

For some reason, anything I do in Titanium Backup just hangs and constantly says it's processing. I'm not sure what could be causing that.. I haven't had that problem with other ROM's, so I'm assuming it's something in this one? Still, well worth it, just curious if anyone may know why?

Make sure under applications:
You have checked Unknown Appliactions

Under Development:
Check USB Debugging
Check Allow mock locations (<--you dont really need this)

I will leave this post up, but I can no longer recomend using it.

Okay, here's what I did: Notice that The first part of this process where I replace the phone and contact apps did not work. After trying the phone mod my phone would not sync contacts and I would get frequent "Process com.google.process.gapps" force closes. So if anyone has some tips to fix that I would appreciate it. For now just use BSydz unmodified ROM.
The other mods seem to work. I have overclocked to 1516 mhz and it tested about %30 faster but does not feel any faster.

1- Modify BSydz-Sharp-Triumph-Froyo-Deodexed-Ver6.zip ROM by deleting these files:
a- Contacts_Home3_FB3hdpi.apk
b- Contacts Provider_Home3_hdpi.apk
c- Phone.apk
Then replace three deleted files with these three files from Stock_Deodexed_ROM_SplashImage_b_randon14.zip.
a- Contacts.apk
b- ContactsProvider
c- and Phone.apk
2- Backup Launcher settings
3- Backup Apps and data
4- Boot to Clockworkmod and Perform Nandroid backup
5- Boot phone normally and using your favorite file app rename sdcard\clockworkmod\"backup" to "backup.old" to prevent your backup from being overwritten by the next Nandroid backup. This is your fail safe backup in case the whole thing blows up.
6- Copy all the files you need to your phone.
a- "BSydz-Sharp-Triumph-Froyo-Deodexed-Ver6.zip" that you modified earlier
b- "Gingersharp 2.2c1.0.zip" MobsterGunz ROM fork - http://www.mediafire.com/?7n03bd3d00twvwo
c- "BSydz Network Location Fix.zip"
d- "BSydzStock Sharp 2.2 Triumph Bloat Remover.zip"
e- "Sense_Looking_Sharp.zip"

Note:The first 6 steps were just prep the rest is the actual upgrade.

7- Boot to Clockworkmod and flash Gingersharp
a Wipe data/factory reset
b Install ROM
8- Boot phone normally and check operation
9- Reboot to Clockworkmod and perform Nandroid backup
10- Flash version of "BSydz-Sharp-Triumph-Froyo-Deodexed-Ver6.zip" you modified earlier
11- Boot phone normally and check operation
12- Reboot to Clockworkmod. Go to backup and Restore - Advanced Restore then pick the gingersharp rom backup and restore only the boot and nothing else.
13- Boot phone normally and check operation.
14- At this point you can restore your apps
15- Reboot to Clockworkmod and flash "BSydz Network Location Fix.zip"
16- Flash "BSydzStock Sharp 2.2 Triumph Bloat Remover.zip"
17- Flash "Sense_Looking_Sharp.zip"
18- Boot phone normally and check operation.

OMG GPS is awesome in this ROM! The GPS has always been such an annoyance with CM7. Since this is froyo, my only problem is lack of GB themes, status bar tweaks, notification power widgets, etc. BUT GPS is too important to me so I'll stick with this guy. Thanks a bunch for this ROM!

Thank you. There is a GB system theme in the second post. The status bar widgets will come in time, this is barely a month old yet. I think a lot of people that use custom ROMs are hesitant about going back to froyo after their stock experience and don't understand how much better this is. I scored higher on Antutu than some of the GB Sharp SH8188u's, only the overclocked GB versions score higher.

OK, I'm back, I had a few long hard days away. I need some feedback on the network location, who it is working for, who it is not working for, and install process. I read back through the thread, and think all of the major bugs have been worked out, so I need to know if anybody is having any issues other than what has been discussed and already fixed. Bluetooth is the one thing I have not heard much about. I would like to polish this ROM off and move on to getting GB on our phone now that I have a guinea pig phone.

Also, I haven't tested any other kernels, other than me modding them and trying to get them to work. But if the kernel from ginger sharp is working then you can just download it and flash it from the reference section at the bottom of the OP. It was not working on my earlier releases, so I never went back to test it. I have not tested this so do this at your own risk. You can always just make a copy of the kernel zip and replace it with the original boot.img from Ver6 to flash back. I'm about to test it out, and if it works I will edit the OP and put up a zip to be able to flash back to the original kernel.

Also, when I used the phone.apk from stock it would work but it would FC randomly and after calls.

Ditto.

Welcome back!
I am having trouble with GPS not sure if it is due to network location. If I step outside on my porch the GPS will acquire satellites and download a route quickly. The other day I was on the road and it would not create a route until I was almost at my destination (about 20 minutes). It knew where I was, I could see the map in the background but no route. I will do more testing today.

Bluetooth is the one thing I have not heard much about.
I have been using Bluetooth everyday since I started using this ROM. I watch Netflix, listen to Pandora and listen to audio books stored on my SD card. When WIFI is running and I start Bluetooth it won't work on first try. That is that turning on Bluetooth turns off WIFI. It only happens if Bluetooth is pared and connected. WIFI works until Bluetooth connects to headset then it switches from WIFI to 3G but the WIFI icon is still on in the notification bar so the only way you can tell is that Netflix gets laggy. When that happens I will turn off WIFI and Bluetooth start Bluetooth first then WIFI and it works.

But if the kernel from ginger sharp is working then you can just download it and flash it from the reference section at the bottom of the OP. It was not working on my earlier releases, so I never went back to test it.

I have been running the Gingersharp kernal since yesterday. I am overclocked at 1.5 ghz and no problems yet.

Same here. FC's every few seconds and no sync with my contacts.

Welcome back! My Network location is still not working, per the details in my previous message.

I just tested the Ginger Sharp kernel with Antutu, the screenshots are attached. I am running Ver6 with a dirty install with the GB system theme, no bloat removed and no background apps stopped, just like it would be after flashing fresh, with a couple apps I installed also. I used no-frills cpu control with ondemand gov and vr I/O scheduler.

One warning I will give you is that while I was running the tests, I literally watched my battery drain like an hour glass. I had to swap batteries just to finish testing and I started with the battery somewhere between half and quarter full. I'm not too interested in overclocking so I will probably switch back to the original kernel, I might get tempted, and burn up my cpu. :D But, it is nice to know this ROM will run at 2Ghz on our phone, but will probably burn your leg if you run it for too long, it started getting pretty hot during the Antutu test at 2Ghz. It's crazy, cause this is a lot faster than the results for the actual phone it was made for, even the GB ROMs. :D

EDIT: I guess the screenshots below are gonna be the only references left for the actual Sharp SH8188u in Antutu, I've been benchmarking all of the different speeds and it seems that all of the other ones on the list are getting bumped. :D

My only glitch is the geo location. Foursquare works if you sign in with Facebook, beautiful Widgets can'tfind me. I flashed the fix, but then foursquare wouldn't even open. I'm back on ver 6 without the fix. I haven't had dialer problems. Messing with the GPS settings sometimes makes handsent fc? Other than that, this rom is a dream

awesome rom. My gps locks in 10 seconds, before it took 5 minutes. Just one thing I have to reboot my phone sometimes to get the camera to work! also when i try to install ver6 theme it locks at the google screen when I boot up,,any ideas? Keep up the good work,

Thank you, if you could do one test for me, I would appreciate it. First make a backup so you can get back to right where you are now. Then flash Stock Deodexed Triumph ROM and let it boot all the way up for a few minutes. Then flash BSydz-Sharp-Triumph-Froyo-Deodexed-Ver6.zip MD5: 74da7e2cce8fb8a5e5ae01b133e0ab94. Then install foursquare fresh from the market and see if you are still having the issue. I am thinking that because I run a dirty install, that just like the *86 voicemail, it may carry over some info from the data partition. I'll test various setups to see what is going on, and get back to you in a while.

I have not had any issues with the camera, only two other people reported problems and one had a broken camera. So until I can duplicate it or more people have that issue, I would say it may be a bad flash. Redownload the updated Ver6 and try from scratch.

If you have flashed other themes not in the second post, they may have changed more files than what I have in the original system theme, and may be causing problems. If you want the original theme then you can just flash Ver6 with out wiping anything and you should be back to normal with all of your apps and stuff.

I don't think it's ROM related. Same thing happens to me on other ROMs, I think it's 3G related, MAPs are trying to download required data/cache for the route and it's taking way slow when GPS knocks down 3G connection to 1x.

Even says that in op

I don't see where it says not to flash gapps in the OP. Regardless, if I don't flash them after I flash the ROM, will I be able to log into Google Play and download/update the apps I want? (GMail, Maps, etc.)

I couldn't log into Market to update it to Play the first time I flashed this ROM. Might have been an issue with me flashing gapps, though.

I'm assuming a clean install on the first and a flash over on the second. Do you want the caches wiped on the second ?

It doesn't tell you to not flash gapps.
It doesn't tell you to flash gapps.

So - DO NOT FLASH GAPPS - you just don't need it.

The route creation problem was caused by me not turning on Data. Once I turned on Data route creation is quick even while operating at 1X. So, chalk this one up to operator error.

Thanks for trying out the ROM. Yes Gapps are included. This ROM hasn't had Market since it was originally released, all of the Gapps have been updated since the first deodexed version. A whole lot of stuff has been done since then.
Is this the ginger sharp kernel that was mentioned above? Found in OP? Thanks. Hybrid Kernel for Rev 2.2.zip

Yes, that is it. I just read that other Triumph kernels are working on this now as well. Somewhere throughout the builds it must have morphed in to being compatible with some of the Triumph kernels. I'm sure people will be posting as they test them out.

Thank you. Yes, just a fresh dirty install, you don't have to wipe anything really, cause the stock ROM with splash wipes everything when it flashes. It is still a good idea to do it yourself, I didn't find out that it did that until I was looking at the updater.script myself. Not that I remember what it says in the OP, I've had it so long. I did like 3 or 4 tests while I was trying to get the network location working. Once I got it working I flashed back to the original Ver6(without the fix) and it didn't work. So I flashed the fix and it worked. I then updated Ver6, flashed it and it worked. So that is where I left off, and have been waiting for some more feedback about it to see what is going on.

I think I confused a ROM with a kernal. Is this the kernal in Mobstergunz Ginger sharp 2.2 ROM?
I am more confused. Can't find Hybrid Kernel for Rev 2.2.zip in the OP???

With my build bkernel will work but it'll break wifi tethering.....

I fixed the kernel and its running a lot smoother too i'll upload it in a few minutes

Heres the new kernel flash in CWM recovery and no need to wipe anything

This should explain everything.
