Root [ROM][PORT] Sharp ROM 2.2.2 for the Triumph (Updated: 12/16/12)

Ok, may have found something. I'm on version 7, clean install, no kernal changes.

I have an Energizer back up battery charger http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/en...harger-for-cell-phones/ID=prod2614591-product . It is basically a thing you put a couple AA batteries in and it has a mini usb to plug into your phone if your battery goes dead and you need juice. I got this thing last year right after I got the Triumph because of how bad the battery life was. It worked great on a brand new stock Triumph.

So tonight I was outside in the yard and my battery was going dead. I go to grab my back up battery and put it in. It was pretty much dead to. So I remembered the Energizer thing. I plopped 2 new batteries in it and plugged it into my phone. The phone battery wasn't quite dead yet but damn close. The Energizer wouldn't register as plugged in but the blue lights on it were blinking as if it was working. So I unplugged it and then with it unplugged the phone showed charging. Even though it wasn't plugged into anything.

Now it has been almost a year since I've used this thing. So I plugged it into my wife's stock un-modded Optimus slider. It showed it charging with the energizer plugged in. So I don't think it's the Energizer. Any chance it's the rom? Any possible fix? Any body else have one of these Energizers and can test this?

Ok guys, I threw this together cause I haven't had time to finish Ver8 completely. I am not gonna post this in the OP, I need some feedback, to see if this improves anything. I have been running it on my phone for a while now. It has the Ver8 kernel, apparently I hosed my kernel folder, so this does not include OC, but it will when I release Ver8. I need to know how everything is running. I changed a few things, mostly kernel and maps related also a few UI tweaks. This is not a finished product, but more of a beta test for Ver8, though everything should be very solid. I basically need to know if there is anything I shouldn't keep when I release Ver8. Thanks everybody for your help, and feedback!

Just thought I should chime in and say I've been using the Ver 8 kernel from post #979 for the past three days and have been having absolutely no issues at all. I'm glad I gave it a try as my MT has never worked better. Previously I was using CM9 (9/13 beta) and quite happy with it except for the GPS issues and screen unresponsiveness - the camera not working was not a big deal for me. I really appreciate all the work that yourself, g60madman, chairshot, dsmryder, and the other MTDEV's are putting into CM9/CM10 but for now I think I'll have to stick with this ROM as I use GPS very frequently to track my runs (exercise) and all other ROMS for the MT that I've tried don't hold a candle to the Sharp ROM in that respect - not only does the GPS lock near instantly on this ROM, it appears that the OS doesn't put the GPS to sleep which it was doing with CM9 and even older ROMS like TickerGuys. The GPS data being all over the place on previous ROMS was driving me crazy but I figured out that it was only happening when the screen was off - if I jogged with the screen on the GPS data was almost perfect and then I found some posts on forums that CM9 (ICS) definitely puts the GPS to sleep when the screen is off and the exercise apps have to constantly try to wake GPS up and that causes the data to be inaccurate because it doesn't have enough time to lock.

Anyway, I'm hoping you guys will be able to get the CM9/CM10 GPS and screen responsiveness to be as perfect as it is on this ROM because I'm definitely missing some of the features from ICS :-)

Thanks, I'm all over the place, just building my arsenal. I kinda jump around from one thing to the next, cause I'll run in to a problem and then see something that could work on one of my many other projects and try to do it while it is fresh. I kinda got a hankering for gingerbread cookies and have a few things I want to test out before I jump back in to CM10.

Also the Ver8 kernel is in the Ver7.5 ROM that I posted for testing.

Is it just my phone or this ROM takes too much RAM? After doing some tasks like browsing the net or messaging or gallery, RAM is already at 92% usage. Maybe it's not clearing the RAM after using it to randomly access the memory. On the first boot with wiping everything and formatting Cache/Data/System, it already took up 235 MB of RAM. Phone only has 384 MB. The 149 MB uses up pretty quick and if I don't restart the phone after a day or two, it becomes laggy to switch screen or open app drawer. This is with .alog files cleared.

Hi Bsydz,

First of all, I want to thank you vehemently! You finally got tether to work on my Triumph.

I am using the latest 7/15 rom and your v3 kernel.

I unzipped the MTU script file and placed the .sh file into the init.d folder that I created in system/etc.

When I manually run the .sh file using root explorer, tethering works like a champ, and its fast too.

I do have a question:

The .sh file in my created init.d folder doesn't seem to run automatically when I reboot the phone. Aren't the init.d folder's contents supposed to run automatically? Its ok, it works when I manually run it, but I was just wondering if it is possible to make it auto run at boot.

Hi,

How do you run this mtu 1500.sh in es file explorer? I did get the .sh into /system/ect/init.d/ but do not know how to run/execute this .sh.

Thanks!

I couldn't get es to run it either, I use root explorer. There are many script apps on the market along with others. It was covered in the post below.

I used the included wifi hotspot no other apps for tether.

I just tried ES file explorer but it won't run scripts, or I am missing a setting, also wouldn't run with Astro. I have run it with Root Browser Lite, and Rom Toolbox Lite, but had to take the space out of the file name. I know it works with Root Explorer. Any of the script apps will run it. These are just a couple tests I did.

The terminal emulator way is the for sure way to do it.
In terminal emulator:
Type su
Hit enter
Allow root access
Type "ifconfig rmnet0 mtu 1500" without the quotes
Hit enter
You're done
Hope this helps.

First id like to say thank you for contiuing to invest time into this project. Ive used tickerguys rom and battery life is horrible without remembering to turn off gps and wifi. However it was very fast and experienced no lag whatsoever. I've been running the sharp rom for several weeks now and I am starting to experience lag. I see that ram usage is high even though there are only a minimal amount of apps and services running. Have you experienced the same? Is there a fix for this?

BSydz: I've noticed something odd with with Deodexed Ver 7 ROM from the first post and Ver 8 Kernel in post #979. Pandora and Google Play Music do not work when using data (connected at 3G and other data apps seem to work fine). In Pandora I get error "Unexpected HTTP error occured code: 502 while StartupAsyncTask" and in Play Music I get the error "Couldn't play the stream you requested". They both work fine on Wi-Fi - I only get the error when they need to connect through the data connection. I can PM you a link to a CatLog with the errors.

Oh, I've also noticed that I've been having to reboot the phone once a day since GPS seems to stop working. Next time it happens I'll check the memory usage and see if there's a memory leak or something.

Let me know if you think updating to the latest in post # 1002 will make a difference. I hate updating because I re-install everything from scratch and reconfigure all my apps and it takes quite a while. When I installed the ROM I factory reset, cleared cache, and cleared davlik cache - all of them twice.

Something doesn't sound right, if the problem persists, I say full wipe. But if you want, just clear the caches and install 7.5, I didn't change enough to warrant a whole reset, just cache and dalvik. I have been reading about and experiencing some strange network activity lately, but it seems to be network related not ROM related. Ver7 has been out for a couple months and over 700 downloads for just Ver7, so I would think that issues like these would be posted by now. Also just as a test, run the MTU script while on 3G and try pandora, it may be wanting to connect at 1500 but it defaults to 1472, haven't figured that one out yet. The MTU should be unlocked in the Ver8 kernel. Hope this helps.

I can't really comment too much on this, I was hoping some other people would chime in. The launcher has a fairly large footprint, it is very integrated in to the system, so right off the bat it is a lil heavier than stock as far as RAM. But I can't say that it affects performance very much if any. A few more details would also be nice. Like any tweaks or apps like tasker or JD. I rarely ever reboot my phone, since I got my dev phone, and yes every once in a blue moon it will throw a hissy fit and a reboot is in order, but that is a very rare occasion for me. This is a very modified Sharp Stock ROM, so I have been trying to keep it as close to a stock replacement as possible for the people that are fed up with stock but still want the facebook and stuff like that. I was only intending this to be a proof of concept when I released it, and has turned in to much more. I know the Sharp ROM has gotten a lot of attention, but I have to remind people that there is an alternative, the U9000 ROM. It has most of the benefits of the Sharp ROM with a stock Froyo feel. If anybody has any suggestions or input, it would be greatly appreciated.

I had already done the MTU fix via terminal emulator right after I installed the ROM so that shouldn't be it. I'll try clearing the caches and installing 7.5 and see what happens. I'll also take a look at the U9000 ROM you mentioned in the post above as I had never heard of that until now.

The MTU resets after reboot and when the lease runs out on the connection. So it has to be run right before tethering or in this case when you are testing. I am trying to figure out how to get it to set correctly all the time, but haven't found a fix yet.

I've been using this ROM for a couple months now and haven't experienced any lag. I also have my phone loaded with apps and music. I'm currently running ver7.5. The ver 8 kernel is soo smooth. the only issues I've come across is that SwiftKey 3 force closes until I uninstall it then reinstall. Every now and then an error comes up when trying to download apps from the play store. Very small issues, nothing to complain about. Thanks again for your dedication.

I started using 7.5 yesterday and did a clean install. I haven't had any issues yet. Decided to try other ROM's since my battery life started getting really bad with the CM7 or CM9 ROM's, not sure if it was just an app or what. My battery life definitely seems better again but I'll give it a couple of days to really see an average. But overall I haven't seen any lag or problems so far.

Better flash the stock rom and recovery before you send it in.

Don't even bother, after approximately 10 returns all that Virgin does is a cursory hardware exam and then flashes an image before putting it back on the shelf for the next unfortunate soul. They do absolutely no software troubleshooting. The only time I would bother to downgrade to stock was if I was preparing to sell the phone becuase you need the stock dialer codes for reactivation.

Shout out to bsyds on the work done on these froyo drops. I've had a used triumph coming from an extremely stable OV (I wish the screen were bigger), in any case this is definitely the Frankenstein of the VM phone line up...but I went with it because it allowed me to keep the $25 grandfather. I did not know what I was getting into :)

In any case after seeing the miserable stock ROM, away I went into CM7 land w/ the g60 variants. They were great except that the wifi/BT often collided, GPS would never work properly, and no deep sleep. That just makes it unusable. I was about 10 minutes away from dropping $229 on the evo v, but I said ok lets give it one more try, because that means I have a Frankenstein wimax phone and now I have to pay $35 a month for the same 80kbps service in Buffalo (no wimax here).

Enter Sharp ROM.

I've been modding since day 1, and have been a dev since the early 90's back in the SunOS 4.0 days :). In any case I did some due diligence, and decided to start with the following framework:

1. 5.2.0.7 b_radom CWM
2. Version 7 ROM
3. try 3 kernel
4. Holo launcher + (the best IMHO).
5. Titanium Pro for BRS
6. JD Pro for data flow management and wifi management
7. Better battery stats (for monitoring)
8. Auto memory manager (for changing memory thresholds)
9. No frills CPU control (to change min to 122 Mhz)

Away I went. Clean wipe and I was up in 10 minutes. In come TP apk and I was restored in another 20 minutes (lots of apps).

I noticed right away GPS was not working properly, so I went and turned on AGPS and Eph and locking inside in 20 seconds (never worked before even w/ me tweaking gps.conf in CM7). Locks outside < 10 sec.

I installed holo launcher plus (I paid because the dev is awesome) and I was just left with the ugliness of froyo status bar. So I put a few widgets in there to make it workable.

Overall in the last few days it goes into DS, bluetooth works flawlessly and wifi is getting killed by JD Pro (I still have some tweaking to do), but not a ROM issue.

Battery life can easily make it > 1 day with normal usage and aggressive daytime/nighttime JD data clamping, and the memory thresholds have kept the launcher screens flowing quite well.

The only issues I have are:

1. Holo locker doesn't work properly. I put in no lock and it still is hit or miss. I removed it for now.
2. Better battery stats doesn't work at all. It looks like the service won't start. When I have time I will look at catlog to figure that out.
3. The stats available to froyo are not very granular so deep inspection is much more difficult.
4. With interactive governor, games kill the battery much faster (approximately 20%) than the CM7 ROMs. With lack of stats, I don't think there is much I can do.
5. Sprint network sucks, and not wimax. I am 1 mile from a tower and the coverage is miserable. NV has still not come to my towers :). If coverage were better my battery would last days :)

I got my Nexus 7 tablet this week, and OMG this thing blows away an ipad. Integration w/ my corporate exchange is flawless--much better than my iphone. It just shows how far in one year the tech that is possible...from this Frankenstein to the Nexus 7.

The problem with the Triumph isn't the Frankenstein hodgepodge of hardware as rebranded versions including this one makes readily apparent, the software and drivers for the triumph aren't just poorly written but they're kludged together by someone who has no idea of standard coding practices, this is what makes it so difficult to repair many of the software errors properly. Case in point being the green blob issue, it's not caused by a defective sensor but by an extremely convoluted and poorly written awb algorithm and routine.

this ROM its great. the only issue I have is that when the GPS goes on it takes the radio back to rtt. that and the sprint 50kbps network in my area.

I have played with the code. Very ugly. Too many issues with the cm7 roms.

Hi,

I have been using this ROM for a few weeks now and I like it. I am trying to get my hotspot to work but do far I cannot. I have the script downloaded but it is on my SD card. I am trying to move it but so far it is not working. I was using File Explorer.

How can I move the file to get my hotspot to work? Be sy as I am not an expert. :)

Thanks,
Glenn

>>Here is the script for anybody that wants to try this out. Just extract the file, and open it in a root explorer and select execute. Wifi must be disabled and 3G must be active for the script to execute correctly. It doesn't seem to work from the SD card, I put it in system/etc/init.d folder and it worked. This also may only work with my custom kernel.(more testing is needed) The custom kernel should be compatible with all Sharp ROM versions.

First, you have to have one of my custom kernels, and a root explorer, then this post should explain it. http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...triumph-updated-7-15-12-a-21.html#post4972844

You have to have a file explorer that can access root directories to be able to move it. I recommend that if you are gonna be using custom ROMs and such, for the foreseeable future, to pickup Root Explorer. It seems to do everything. I have had it soo long that when I tried other apps, I was like why is it not doing what I want it to do. I just got spoiled. It will move the script execute the script and do a whole lot more.

A script is just a text document with the .txt changed to .sh, with a command that you would use in a terminal. If you open the script as text you will see the line of code is the same as what is in the post I linked to.

You can just wipe the caches and install Ver7.5 as it already has the script in system/etc/init.d, if you don't wanna go through the moving process.

Hope this explains it.

After flashing the Sharp ROM my phone won't boot up into recovery. I try to press the power, volume up and volume down button but the phone simply boots up normally. Is there anyone that can help me?

Flashing a ROM shouldn't make the phone not go to recovery. Make sure you are holding the volume buttons before you press the power button. That goes for download mode also. Always make sure you have the correct button combination pressed before you hit the power button, to initiate the boot mode you want. If you are still having issues feel free to post back.

Thanks a lot! I was able to get my phone into recovery. For some reason if I held the volume up, volume down, and then the power button for to long the phone would boot up normally. But if I held those button for a few second the phone would go into recovery. I guess I was holding the buttons down to long or it could have been something wrong with my phone. Anyways, thanks for the advice.

Is there anyway we can get dictionary for the keyboard on this rom ?? That is about the only thing that is missing imho. :)
