Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I'm waiting lol.

It's uploading now. It should bring with it a corrected remapping of the search button to a camera button (this was broken last release), as well as an updated SU binary and hosts file, another audio overhaul, and the camera app itself should work properly as well. And there are some surprises thrown in there, too.

This will be edited with the new links here shortly.

Sleipnir 2.0.1 is go. Available at SendSpace and MediaFire. Main post updated too.

So far, so good. I like the status bar.
And thank you for the pre installed apks. However, the remapping of the camera button still isn't working.

I like it, Artine. Keep us the awesome work!

Artine a suggestion to instead of remapping the Search key itself, how about rewriting the Camera app to add functionality to itself in HOLDING the search key allowing to set as default to go to the camera? Kinda like what you can do with screenshot apps and apps like Apple's Siri

Also, the divider for the 3rd and 4th signal bar doesn't look clean. Fix that man.. and I'm happy with this'n.

Edit: please? :P

Don't be demanding Landonh12. Or he wont do anything. Be grateful for what he has done and ask nicely for him to fix it. This is a community, if you're gonna demand it, then fix it yourself. ;] No disrespect btw. Just sayin my opinion on that.

What are the surprises?! Haha?
Other than the status bar, I can't find anything different. :)
I did notice that it was a bit lighter. Maybe it's a placebo, but it may feel a bit zippier.

I noticed, the remapping is still in the works. That'll get fixed in the future. Also, I ended up posting the wrong build link initially where the camera wasn't fixed, the Sendspace link was updated but my modem/router died too :/ Links are fixed now, however, and you should only have to run the Update_ROM_Elite.zip from Leslie as opposed to the new one. IE: Only formatting System, to get a correctly working camera pulled from Aeneas.

Also, looks like that part of the status bar broke. Working on it!

.... there's a way to do that? I just went into the keylayout/keymapping part of usr. I have no idea how to edit the camera apk o.o

There will be an update later tonight (-6 Central US Time) or very early tomorrow morning with a working camera, extended/advanced Power Menu from ICSOE, and a half-functional remapped search button (right now, it tries to fire up the camera apk on a long press, but the camera apk crashes before it actually starts working, so we're almost there!) as well as hopefully a UI update.

EDIT: So far, everything is done with the exception of tidying up the UI and the half-functional remapped search button. The new power menu and the camera apk work just fine on the test build, and they will be released in the next build. Aroma installer will be included in a near-future release as well, but not the next one.

Try studying how the "Screenshot It" app works for the Search key. I used that app to long press to take a screenshot before Quickmemo came out. I'm sure there is some code in there. It doesn't have to do with remapping the search key I believe, but adding the search key feature to the camera apk. Kinda like adding a "trigger" lol.

The mms.apk has lost the color for the background of messages. Not sure if thia was intended or not

I was trying the ICSOE Mms.apk, and plan on switching back to what Sleipnir had earlier. And for those wondering - no, there will be no more name changes. Perhaps build sub-codenames, but it isn't planned. What is planned is for the ROM itself to be called Sleipnir, followed by a date and a version. This simplifies things, and Sleipnir is both fitting and badass for the OE, so I call that plan ideal.

Also, as far as future updates are concerned, they should only affect the System portion of the ROM, so if you've been flashing the New_ROM_Elite.zip from Leslie, you can simply run the Update_ROM_Elite.zip so you don't lose all of your data.

Oh, and I didn't touch on this earlier; criticism is welcome, as well as all feedback. Every little bit, both positive and negative, helps. Negative feedback is not going to slow or impair development in any way. Added proof of this is that I was and have been still developing this ROM for myself personally, and still would like to contribute to the community that has helped me so much with my own journey into owning an Android phone, so releasing what I've done is my way of repayment. Negative feedback or calls for rushing development isn't going to affect me, or the development of this ROM. Things get done when they get done, and that's that. So, no worries!

What all do I need to install to get my search button working like normal?
I installed GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk and com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk and still nothing.

Considering it is remapped, it is irrelevant what apk you add back in - it won't perform the search function because that function is no longer tied to the button.

Also, I'll post what I've got here shortly. I have no idea what on earth is wrong with the status bar header nor the notifications divider - sometimes clearing the dalvik cache helps, sometimes not and those two remain completely black. I have no idea why, and this happens on the same install. It's maddening.

EDIT: Sleipnir 2.0.4 can be downloaded from Mediafire | SendSpace

Just writing in to say THANKS!!! This is a great ROM, flashes quick, boots quick, no major flaws or bugs that I can see... haven't tried Bluetooth yet but my 3G/Wifi seems to work just fine.

For anyone looking for Gapps, I used the following file via the Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps link from the All Things Root Guide and it worked fine for me. I believe I still had to install Maps separately but that installed easily from the Play store.

gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

Update posted, with a restored search button until I can figure out how to complete the remap. And the screenshot option from the new power menu almost works correctly. As well as, of course, other behind the scenes changes. I recommend definitely clearing the dalvik cache - as I mentioned above, I have no idea what's with the UI. The notifications/status bar is maddening - there's no reason I can find as to why some parts are blank when they have no reason to be. Sometimes clearing the dalvik cache helps and those parts un-blank, sometimes they stay blank, and this is all on the same install/.zip. Makes no sense. Anyone got any ideas? Would love to hear 'em.

Otherwise, it's fully functional. Enjoy!

Alright, what about quickmemo?

Alright, what about quickmemo?

If you want, you can add that in manually. Otherwise, it's nearly bloat. It will not be added, therefore. Perhaps on an alternate version like what Hashtag has done with both Slim and "Full" editions, but as of right now Quickmemo is not planned to be included. This may change in the future, as all things do, however. But I can upload the .apk for it here and you can feel free to add it in if you'd like.

Note that this is essentially the same reason why most gapps were removed. Not everyone uses them, so the goal is to provide a very clean, bloat-free and non-essentials-free ROM, and anyone who uses gapps or, for example, QuickMemo, is able to add it in manually. But it's easier to add than to remove.

I just wanted to know what apks to put back in.

I put that one in and still doesn't work.

Did you put it in /system/app/ and did you set proper permissions?

And after it's there and you have proper permissions set, don't try to install it like normal, just reboot and it should install automatically. That is the QuickMemo .apk, there isn't another one that the phone has.
