Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

A curiosity: when I plug speakers into my phone, it almost invariably gives me a FC on DSPManager. Not a big problem, and my just be my phone. Anyone else run into this? It has happened on the last couple of versions of BACKside.
Blarf reported that issue months ago, but no one else said anything till you. Any possiblity you could grab a logcat of the issue for us?

Sure. That should help in determining if it is a bug or just some phones.
I will need to do a quick search for how to do it, as I haven't done a logcat before.

If you have ADB set up, just attache your phone with and type into your computer:
adb logcat > logcat.txt

Then on your phone do whatever causes a crash, then on your PC press CNTRL+C to stop the logcat.

C&P the contents to pastebin.com and post the URL here.

According to a report at xda, this is only happening with the new version of Google Music, the older version seems to work without issue.

Anyone else having problems with system lock-ups with the new update (0502)?

Updated last night and have had to pull the battery 3 or 4 times because of lock-ups. Have throttled back the overclocking, but still happens. Only an issue because taking off my Fishbone Case is a pain.

Not a huge pain, but want to see if it is wide-spread or operator error. (afraid it might be a loose screw between my keyboard and chair).

Otherwise, love the auto update.

No issue for me. Been running great except for an occasional reboot from radio bug but I think mrg's new kernel has that fixed. You may have gotten a bad flash.

No problems on my end. The reboots I've had that were overclock related never involved freezing. My phone would just instantly turn off and reboot. So I don't think it's overclock related. Its likely either app related or a bad flash.

FYI- I'm going to be spending the next couple of weeks attempting to fix a glaring security hole in Android. Downloads are started without asking the user's permission, resulting in the Not-Compatible drive-by vulnerability to be exploited more and more recently.

I posted about this in several forums a few months ago, but no one seemed to take me seriously then. Now it's become a true problem I cannot ignore any longer. This drive-by vulnerability allows an infected webpage to take over your phone if you simply load the webpage up in your browser. With the combination of Flash-Player vulnerabilities announced last nite, this is a truly huge problem. Just visiting a bad webpage could allow your phone to be taken over, sending sms to premium numbers, stealing your personal info, and even initiating phone calls to premium numbers. And that's just the tip of the iceburg!

I will not be working on other issues until I manage to get a properly working interstitial dialog inserted into the download process. TBH, I can't believe AOSP has allowed this behaviour, and I will do what I can to get it changed upstream. Till then, please please be careful when visiting websites you are not familiar with. If you see a download beginning in the background without your interaction (ie you didn't click on a link to download something, it just starts on it's own), your best bet is to pull your battery, put it back in and boot into recovery, then do a full wipe/format and re-install the ROM. Hopefully you have TB backups to re-install your apps afterwards. This is actually dangerous enough for me to recommend such drastic measures!

Hey, so, I'm getting an error message I didn't get in stock... it's in voice apps like .andy and Skyvi, saying my phone doesn't recognize voices..... the thing is, the Sound Recorder that came with the ROM and Voice Dialer work fine... so, is this a BACKside related problem? If so, is it fixable? Please help. D:

You sent me a message about my theme. I haven't updated it for the current build so if your on the newest build and using my theme that is your issue. Easiest thing to do would be to flash green machine or one of brothers or make your own. I'll update it soon

So far Quicksilver is the only one I've updated for 0502. Oh, for those interested, the CM7 version of QS is finally out of beta!

Thanks Jerry, that was helpful. Currently, the problem has disappeared, but I will get a logcat of that if it starts happening again. Might have just been the ROM settling down.
It is running like a champ now. You do great stuff, thanks for all your efforts.

Sorry, I'm a bit slow... "back end?"
To keep the size of the apps as small as possible, sometimes developers will build apps that rely on the functionality of other apps. Building all of that into a single app would not only increase the size of the apps, but also duplicate code on your phone (wasted space, a big no no to devs.) So with an app like Sonar, instead of building in the voice recognition, it uses Google Voice search for that functionality. This enables the developers of Sonar to make their app smaller, while having advanced voice functions. This is in contrast to apps like FlexT9 (my favorite keyboard) which has it's own built in voice recognition software. Yes, FlexT9 is larger for it, but it will function correctly entirely on it's own - no need for other apps to be present.

I hope this helps your understanding of how these confusing little beasts work!;)

Ohhhh okay... and yeah! You were totally right, I just installed Google Voice, and Andy and Skyvi work now!! :D Thanks!!!

But now, on a totally unrelated issue, I have, like, 60 phone-only contacts on my Optimus... and I'm trying to sync them to my Google Contacts... is this even possible? Because so far I can't find a solution.

Maybe there's an app.....otherwise rentering in as a Google contact is your only solution...

From contacts, hit menu - import/export - export the contacts to the sd card. Then, do it again but select import. You will be asked if you want the contacts to be phone only or Google contacts. Choose Google contacts, and you should be all set.

Okay, so I tried that, but I have like 200 miscellaneous email contacts I inherited from a bunch of chain mail... is there any way I can not sync those?
Also, there was some major contact tripling going on with each of the contacts it synced, luckily I stopped the process and deleted all of the extras made...
Solution? Is there one?
Thanks in advance.

Oh that works? Ok so back up all contacts to SD card, delete all gmail contacts, restore contacts from SD card, good to go.
