Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

Any idea on the headset button Jerry? The control keys light when you push it so it's sending something.

It's something we are looking into. LG hasn't released their source for most of the hardware, which they aren't required to. This makes it very difficult to track down these types of issues, kinda like a needle-haystack scenario. ;)

Just checking to make sure things are as planned, but it seems that the rom is not signed this time arround. Otherwise it is my phone being weird. Can someone confirm?

I got the same thing...I had to toggle signatures. And when I tried to flash the green machine theme my phone would stick in a boot loop

So I just tried installing Blarf's recovery because I've been using Xionia this whole time (with no problems) but it didn't work. I checked the file size of Blarf's recovery and it's 69kb... is that right??

EDIT: Nevermind. Found the right one here: https://github.com/inferiorhumanorgans/android_device_lge_thunderc/wiki/IHO-Recovery But I'm having a bit of trouble with it. I used ROMTools v2.31 to install it (by changing the vrecovery.img with the Blarf one) and whenever I make a choice using the Home button, it doesn't do anything and gives me a blank screen with the logo in the background. When I press the Home button again, it just puts me back to the main recovery screen. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Do it manually ROM tools is not for this phone. Use this tutorial:
" This is a very fast and easy method to flash a recovery from inside your phone. Probably one of the fastest easiest methods out there.

Note that you need to be rooted first.

Preparation: You need to put the recovery onto the root of your Sdcard. Optional but highly recommended, rename the recovery "a.img", minus the quotes of course. This is easier to do on your computer and means a less typing on the phone. If you don't rename it, you will have to type out the entire name in step 2. The same applies if you have it in a sub-directory.

1. Open your emulator

2. type in, pressing enter after each line: su flash_image recovery /sdcard/a.img

3. If you want to boot straight into recovery, type: reboot recovery "

All the buttons on the front do that. You have to use the camera button on the side.

OK so I followed all the instructions exactly but when I attempted recover flash image "a.img" with flash emulator. i was granted su "#" no problem but when i typed in the above command It said "permission denied"....

Also after i skipped that part and tried to install the Backside Iho zip file with the clockworkmod recovery, it didn't work. It stated the following:

E:Can't open /sdcard/ BACKside-IHO-Vm670-08312011.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted

I followed all instructions and was able to recover no prob.
Can you or anyone offer any advice? please? Any help would be appreciated. Ty

I think I'm going to stick with the 8/25 build for a while, until a few more builds are finished, with more features added or something. I feel comfortable with this build seeing how I have yet to have any problems with it, other than slight lag when typing (for example this post) I'll. Type a few words and then it will start to lag a little bit, but its only when I'm online, not texting, so I'm not too worried about it.

Try toggling signature verification in recovery. If that doesn't work, you probably got a bad download, try redownloading.

I def have sig verify disabled... How is it possible i have a bad download? I have downloaded everything from this thread alone which seems to have been updated only 2 days ago...

I am a bit confused about the download links. The AospCm7Mod...img download link is available in the thread but not mentioned in any of the installation steps. Have you noticed that? Am i missing something? I also got a boot loop when trying to flash the green machine theme. Is there a difference between flashing and installing? Again any help would be appreciated. I feel as ling as my questions are not ignored I am making progress.

It is possible the download didn't actually finish or is corrupted somehow, which means you'll have to try downloading again.

I always verify the MD5 hash. If you're on Windows, I recommend HashTab. You can find the checksum (hash) under the download link.

People get bad downloads all the time, which is why md5 was invented.

Once you have a zip file on your phone, open terminal emulator and type:

md5sum /sdcard/NAME_OF_FILE.zip

It will take about 20 seconds, then will show you the md5 to check against the one I posted. ;)

Thanks man, but my Hp pav laptop crashed somehow and I'm stuck using my Gf's Imac for now... LOL
An incomplete download was exactly the problem for me. I'm guessing it was interrupted. This is the first time I Rooted and Installed a custom rom and was smooth thanks guys!
Staying consistant with my positive experience with this thread I was wondering...
Has anyone ever "integrated" (is that how you would say it?) A seperate custom Kernal with a seperate custom rom? Does anyone know about this topic and still manage to keep it related with this thread topic, BACKside ROM? ;)

The delay is just this site its very annoying I've had it since before I rooted.

I have the 8/25 build on my V. Love it so far. Having problems with new ( 8/31 build ). Stuck with the green android spinning and the voice keeps repaeating itself. I am re-downloading green maching theme and the newest rom. I am wondering about the discissions above about regarding "toggle permissions". What is that ?
**scratches head** ... thanks in advance.

Well it may depend on which recovery you have (adding that lil info with your questions is always helpful to give you a specific answer) But with my clockworkmod recovery the toggle signature verify is found after clicking on "install zip from from sd card". You need to disable this feature in order to successfully install (or flash?) and run a custom ROM on your rooted device.

What I'm not sure about and would like to know is what is "toggle script asset" for? Does anyone know?

Also I have titanium backup and have all my apps backed up. How do i recover them smoothly? I really should bank my funds in ww right about now...:)

Yes, you can use a custom kernel with the IHO based ROMs. IHO comes with a custom kernel of it's own, but if you like, there have been good reports from users trying xioniaredux kernel, and a couple of the xionia anykernel versions. Drew is working on a gingerkernel, but he has had a major setback recently.

Toggle signature verification is under install from sdcard on most if not all recoveries. Toggle asset verification is used to flash a ROM not intended for your phone, and as such is only for the very advanced who are willing to brick their phones. ;)

If you have TitaniumBackup Pro, you can do a batch restore of your apps without having to click on buttons for each restored app.

Ok kool. But I don't have pro so I'm ok with one by one. How do I access them to restore them though ? File manager doesn't seem to veiw those backup files correctly. For some reason they all have the DB "f"logo on most of them when I veiw them with file mngr. Can I do it through recovery somehow? Or do I have to redownload titanium just to access them? Or is their a more practicle way? I'm not shy of cmd prompts. ;)

Issue ? : Facebook won't sync...Gmail is fine. Shows Facebook option but won't sync for me.

Not sure if it's a bug or if I need to adjust a setting on my end. Thoughts?

Your apps are restored when the phone is booted up, not in recovery. The first things you should do after a full wipe is download TitaniumBackup from the Market, and the Amazon App Store if you use any Amazon apps. Then you can do your restores.
