Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

I take it that the new build is good and no problems to report? I'm waiting a little bit for now on before I jump into a build that has problems.

Jerry,

First, thank you again for all of the work that you put into each build.

Second, I'm still running into the dalvik cache problem with this build. It again hits a certain point and then says there is no memory, either for reinstalling apps or downloading from the Market.

Have you tried a fresh install instead of just flashing over your previous build?

Tried playing with the update app just to see. Even though I had the most recent version of the ROM it still said there was a new version. Just thought I'd let ya know Jerry.

Dumb question...

What is the easiest way to do a rom update if you're using link2sd? I just tried to update by clearing the cache and dalvik cache, and all of my apps were missing after it booted into backside rom. I opened link2sd, and it wanted to do a "quick reboot" to fix the 2nd partition, but it just got stuck in the boot animation.

Do I have to do a clean install for every update if I'm using link2sd?

Yes, in fact I've done four fresh installs: the first time updating the ROM, then to see if it was a bad install, then to see if I had neglected to move the apps, and the last time to move the dalvik cache file to the SD. I did fresh installs from the beginning because I had a few crashes and resets with the last ROM and wanted a fresh install, just to make sure everything was cleaned out. During the first installs I would eventually hit the "limit." Only by moving the dalvik cache to the SD was I able to again install all apps and use the market. It's been that way over the last few builds.

I've had similar issues with data2ext set up. There is a flashable zip involved with data2ext to get it working and I found in a forum to first disable data2ext through terminal, then flash the update, then flash the data2ext zip over it. I did this for this most recent build and no issues arose.

So you cleared data, cache, dalvik cache, then formatted boot, system, data, cache, sd-ext, and then flashed? (I usually go into mounts and storage just to make sure everything is wiped clean)

Yep...I've been installing and re-installing since 7:00 am this morning.

That is very strange. Now are you using app2sd or anything like that and if so are you trying to set that up before you run into the issue?

I've tried using APP2SD and moving the programs as they installed, but that didn't stop the problem. During one of the the most recent installations, I tried used Titanium Pro to move the apps to the SD and still the only thing that worked was moving the cache file itself. Once I do that, I can install anything and everything. I'd say that it started happening with one of the first October builds. (I'm not sure specifically, but I posted in the forum when it first happened, so I could go back and check.)

I did see that post and if that fix worked before I would do it again. I don't know to much about app2sd since I don't use it myself. I go with data2ext to clear up my system memory and to have a GB of space for apps. Here's a good link with step by step instructions if anyone is interested. Just keep in mind its either app2sd or data2ext or link2sd. I don't believe you can use these at the same time.

Here's the link if anyone wanted to play with data2ext:

*Edit*

Oh and the reason I was asking if you were implementing app2sd was because I was seeing if maybe that could be the root of your issue.

Sure, I appreciate it! Perhaps I should try partitioning the SD card? Anyway, it would be interesting to know what changed in the most recent builds.

SMOOTHNESS TO THE MAX!!!! But wait. I thought you needed a partition on your sd card for app2sd to work. I may be wrong here but i thought app2sd stored most of the data of the app on a partition on your sd card.

Okay I need some help finding the culprit to my problem. It seems to come up whenever I do something (perhaps install something, uninstall something, run a script, etc.). I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem. Anyways, there's SOMETHING I do that makes my notification widget buttons "tweaky." After I do this certain something, these certain things happen: my orientation button no longer works (the button doesn't color in and it doesn't auto rotate), when I slide on the status bar my brightness doesn't stick (when I change the brightness then turn off the screen, it reverts back to my previous brightness), and I am unable to move the notification buttons around (the order of them in the settings). Also, when I go into display and press auto rotate, the setting doesn't stick and reverts back to original setting after I exit the window. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem? Here's a bit of background info: I use Link2SD, I uninstall things like ADWLauncher (since I use LauncherPro), uninstall Gallery, uninstall CM Wallpapers, run the 3G TurboCharger/V6 SuperCharger scripts, and other numerous things. The things is, when I reflash the ROM and do a fresh install, the buttons work fine. If I keep it completely stock BACKside, the buttons and brightness work correctly. Once I do SOMETHING that I can't seem to find, it becomes tweaky. I mean I could just pinpoint it by doing one thing then rebooting but it would just take a large amount of time.

So.. in conclusion, has anyone had this problem before?? it's quite frustrating >_<

EDIT: I pinpointed the problem since I was on frustration overload. My notification widgets became tweaky after I applied the 3G TurboCharger script. I fixed my problem after I used the WiFixer included in the script. Just letting people know ahead of time if you guys wanted to use the 3G TurboCharger script.

EDIT#2: It's still being a bit tweaky.. I'd recommend not using 3G TurboCharger at all.. So sad because the script actually did make a difference in my 3G speeds.. -sigh- -_-

I too ran into an issue a while back when i tried out 3G turbocharger script, i came to the conclusion that its just not compatible with this rom/phone.
and about the link2sd stuff, this is what i do everytime when i flash a new build.
-i back up EVERYTHING, apps, Sms, contacts(even though its not needed at all, its just a habit), make sure that all my apps are up to date before i backup.
-download latest build to my sd (using my phone)
-reboot into recovery, wipe/format EVERYTHING
-flash rom, and gapps
-boot phone, and do the gapps setup, go to market install link2sd.
-since i have a handful of apps installed on the sd, i wait till those install after booting up.. set up link2sd, reboot
-link the apps that were installed during initial boot and set up auto-link
-install titanium backup, restore all my 247 apps (later uninstall apps that i dont plan on using after all apps are restored)
-if i get a "low memory" message, i goto link2sd, relink everything(sometimes auto-link doesnt catch all apps when restoring, so its always good to relink occasionally)
-go back to titanium backup, make sure all apps were restored, restore those that werent.
-reboot to tighten up rom
-set up my launcher, and weed through my apps, uninstalling the ones that i dont plan on using
-sync my facebook contacts
-OC to 825/480 performance
-reboot to tighten up rom
-set up my notification widgets (previous, play, next, wifi, gps, mobiledata)
-make sure that my orientation settings are set to 0 and 90 and my brightness is set to 50% (i found that this works best for me through out day and night)
-grab the latest supercharger script, and set it up to my liking
-reboot to tighten up rom
-make sure that everything is in working order and then go on about my day

my process is very time consuming but it works for me, and i never run into any problems, other than sleep deprivation.. but thats a given ;)

Every time I flash a new ROM from scratch I end up getting a handful of SMS and MMS that were sent sometimes weeks prior. I am typically running the newest BACKside.

Most of the messages come from my wife who is also using an Optimus V running BACKside 1017, but also some from my sister who has Verizon.

Any ideas on how to get these messages except flashing again?

are they new messages that you never received, or are they duplicates?

I've never had this happen to me, so I'm not sure what the issue is at this point. Are you using the stock SMS app? If so, you should be able to back it up and restore that data safely. I think most people use an altervative SMS app like handsent with extra features for backing up your messages.
