Root [ROM][WIP] CyanogenMod 7 | Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) | Current Version: 09122011

Up to my usual tricks over in Triumph-land. What's the difficultly with moving up to 2.3.7? There wasn't any drastic changes to the source code...

not to bad, lol but i saw a triumph on CL for a small amount and thinking about getting it, whats your thoughts on it.

Actually, I stuck with it AFTER I sold it. For a few months. ;)

Something like that... Either way, stuck with it way too long. :p

lolz im still stuck with all mines also, except the tapout edition.

What he is saying is that Cricket users do NOT have to do the MMS fix.
have you tried reflashing? be sure to follow the directions and WIPE all that it says to wipe... then reflash...

You followed these steps correct?

After copying the CM7 ROM and gapps to your SD-Card...

Boot into cwm (VOLUME ROCKER UP+CALL BUTTON+POWER)

use your track ball to select (in order) the following commands

wipe data/ factory reset

advanced

wipe dalvik cache

press the back button (the arrow) on your phone.
under mounts and storage, format following...
boot
data
system
cache

press the back button (the arrow) on your phone.

install .zip from sd
chose zip from sd.
choose cm7.zip
choose gapps-cm7.zip

phone will do a bunch of crazy stuff for a few minutes after each .zip is selected

press back on your phone

select:
mounts and storage,
format sd

press back on your phone

select:

restart system now.

I'm sure you did, but want to be sure :)

I did the wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and the dalvik cache but I didn't wipe all the other stuff. If I do will the mms work?? Cause thats all I really care about if I do upgrade it. Cause Me and my friend are always sending stupid and funny pics to eachother. Especially if it has to do it with bacon. Lmao

I see there are some people requesting the bump up to 2.3.7. TBH, there isn't anything special with 2.3.7 other than the number change. Most of the changes to CM7 (migration to 2.3.7) was for the officially supported devices (i.e. not the Ascend).

I think ICS would be hard to get on the Ascend. If you ignore the hardware limitations, the Ascend will have difficultly making the move up because it never saw an official GB release. I had a pretty hard time getting 2.3 on the Ascend. A lot of the stuff from 2.1/2.2 was used for CM7/2.3. That same stuff wouldn't work with ICS. I haven't seen the ICS source, so I can't say definitively.

the fix for cricket is already built into the rom, and for metro we had to get one built.;)

Im on cricket. No mms issues. Except from DX2s for some reason... i have never been able to receive mms from them. But any other phone, no problem.

when i did it, the mms didnt work. which rom do i download? the most recent one?

Here are all the links.. 728 and newest are on there\

If your phone is not lazy, you may be able to go with 0912 build.. if it is.. 0913 (only difference is the kernel is only 710mhz vs 748) me personally i had issues with the newest (0912) but i think my ascend is trying to give me a hint because the only thing that didnt work is i had no sound.. went back to 0728 and it works fine with mms (on metro though after metroff).. i always had issues with mms so i dl'ed apn manager from 81 square from the market.. its free.. make sure the cricket is checked (in your case) and it worked.. htc and iphones mms always came through sporadictly but within the past two months or so they started to be almost flawless.. but still have their moments.. with me making no changes.. its hit or miss sometimes i think.. depending on the provider imho half the time.. anyways.. long story short.. flash cm7..

flash gapps.. reboot.. fill out the initial questions.. reboot after it syncs.. run apn manager, click cricket (sorry if i'm off here i am on metro and it was never checked), reboot again.. give it a little time.. (download a few apps you want, make some coffee, drink a beer, whatever lol).. reboot again.. it needs to settle..

Sidenote.. I've always followed this for flashing.. but i'm on metro and its always been a pain with mms at times... works good though for me now.. hope it helps

The "LAZY" term is referring to whether your particular handset can tolerate the CPU being overclocked past it's original factory clocking of 600 MHZ.
The majority of ASCENDS can tolerate O/C up to 710 MHZ,a few more,(748 MHZ).
Unfortunately, some do not tolerate overclocking very well,to varying degrees.
That is why some updates of CM7 are available w/overclocking to 672 MAX(aka the LAZY version of a particular update).
The typical overclock maximum setting for ASCEND CM7 ROMS is 710,w/a few versions available @ higher overclocking for those fortunate enough to have one of the handsets that can tolerate the highest stable overclocking of 729 to 748 MHZ,depending upon which update is flashed.
