But IMPORTANT! If you want to keep all your stuff it'd be best to backup/save all your stuff to a computer before wiping and installing the zip files of cm7 and gapps to your phone!
Also dont forget, you need rom manager, and when you upgrade to cm7 it will automatically be there.
Once you do that just follow the guide and it will show you step by step. Good luck! And if you need anything just ask.
 
While I haven't said much on these forums I must say thanks to Isaacj. My phone seriously sucked without Icarus 1.1 and the new CM7. That said, I wish I knew how to help with dev, but I am just not that savvy.

So far I haven't had any real issues others are coming up with on CM7, but there are a few tweaks I've noticed that help. Using the stock launcher increases the speed of your home screen. If you don't like the stock launcher, I'd recommend Zeam. It's light weight and customizable. I'd also disable animations and just use one non-moving background. Wifi works great out of the box, and can actually connect to an ad-hoc network. 3rd party apps tell you android cannot connect to ad-hoc networks. I also notice keeping as much ram open as possible helps, I know a lot of people dislike task managers, but it seems to help to just keep apps like messanger, dialer, ect left in the ram.

So far I have little or no issues, except the home screen re-drawing itself after using large apps, but that is probably due to the ascend not having a gpu.

Took about 3-4 months to get CM7 where it is. I've been working on the phone for about 8.

The Android source is broken into 2 parts:

- Kernel
- ROM

The kernel is written in C. The ROM source is written in a blend of C++, Java and some Python. My Github and the respective repos on it (I have 7) are just part of the different aspects I changed in the Android source. I made these changes to tailor Android 2.3/CM7 for the Huawei Ascend.
 
I had the 2.3.3 version of CM7. and I got a lot of force closes w/ market apps and stuff.
but, I just flashed to this last night, and I'm really happy w/ the outcome but.
my phone will not roam, I have no service at school, so roaming is what gave me a bar or 2.
Any suggestions on how to fix?
(metropcs btw)
 
i guess the oc748 done not functuion anymore with the 514 build? the build works fine until i install the zip and thne the phone only goes to the ascend boot screen and goes no further. i was just curious how the phone handled the 748 oh well no biggie.
 
Ok hi everybody I have a couple maybe a few questions.
1. What's the difference between both builds?
2. In build 5212011, what works and is their any that's not working?
3. I have cwm 3.0.2.8 can I use this cwm to flash build 5212011.

Is there a way i can access my most recent applications? im using stock launcher. Also when i long press the call button the bluetooth voice dialer starts is there anyway to change that to a different application

the oc settings are more acurate now than before, so if your phone handled 748 b4 it may not now, like mine, I had to clock it down to 729.
 
im just curious why i can get the 0514 build to load up after flashing the 748 oc zip. i know it was designed for that build so i thought it would work. the 0509 will not load at all, i used the currect gaaps and flash metro off1.3 and all it goes to is the 2nd huawei screen no matter how many times i try to redue it. any ideas?
 
So, i just flashed yesterday to CM7 and I love it so far. However, my camera does not work at all. I get a force close or report option whenever I use FxCamera. Ive researched some stuff, but they're not exactly clear. Can someone help with this problem please?

I gotta have my cam.

all I can figure is your phone doesnt like the kernel.

What build of CM7 are you on? As far as i know, the camera should work. I am running CM7 05072011 and everything works great. (i know there are newer builds...just like the way my phone is operating) I have heard that certain apps for the camera will force close it. I think...if it freezes up or stops, just lock the phone and unlock it again. I saw somewhere that it should work. Hope this helps.
 
i got 5212011 2.3.4. i tried doing that and it still does that. its a few issues actually but, the camera bothers me most. i tried locking and unlocking, rebooting, doesnt work. : (
