Root [ROOT] One-click root for LG Connect 4G :: 3/3/2012

i dont have the phone yet, but I really don't think there is anything to worry about. Considering the facts at hand. I'm so glad to see a root tho already! Great work.

Works like a charm, much appreciated! Any chance of seeing a cwm, or perhaps a cyanogen mod for this device?

soon, i have tested cwm and almost was successful but didnt boot into it i think shabby is still trying to figure out why

How can I tell if the drivers were successfully installed onto my phone? I ran the driver exe and the computer said the drivers were installed successfully onto my device but the phone didn't say anything like that? Should it?

My Android version is 2.3.6 Is that what it's supposed to be? Assuming that's what was being updated?

There is no adb file in the osx download. I tried running it anyways thinking it was buried in another file, doesn't work.

Doesn't seem to wanna finish...this is what it says,

After that when I press any key it closes the window. It doesn't seem to be rooted but maybe i am doing something wrong. I have open file explorer and tried to find some kind of system files but all I see is the same ones that were there before. And I open the Superuser app which I installed before rooting and after I open it it says ( no apps in list ) and ( no log entry ) Can anybody see what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lol Nm I guess I was rooted. I downloaded a app called SystemApp Remover and it easily shows me how to delete the system files and the regular ones.

Unable to select debugging mode.....its greyed out. have tried everything .......how do I do this?

its most likely because you have the charge mode on and the connect is connected to the computer, if I am assuming right easiest solution will be too disconnect the usb wait couple of seconds go to application setting and the developer setting and the setting will become available

No....I've got serious problems......no WiFi even after wiping it out and resetting the phone....now the screen is black....I've had this for about 4-5 hours. every tine i wipe to factory I have a new problem. but this screen thing.....this wwont go away. i sure hope its just this particular phone.

you have to be in (INTERNET CONNECTION ) NOT mass storage or charge only but once again INTERNET CONNECTION in able for your phone to be in debugging mode try this and let us know how it works

I...don't....even...

LOL I hear ya man.

Has anybody done this via OSX yet? I'm a complete newb when it comes to Terminal use, I have NO idea what I'm looking at. This will be the fourth phone I've rooted, first with a Mac. My wife's Sony VAIO died and I don't have access to a windows machine.

This is what I did: I set the phone to usb debugging and put in internet connection, I see both the usb symbol and the buggy android icon in the notification window.
I downloaded the Spectrum_root_Linux_osx.zip and unzipped it on my laptop. After opening the resulting folder I'm present with four icons, three are for a terminal.app (busybox, su and superuser.apk) and one is a text edit, run.sh. After opening run.sh I see it's a command list for (I'm assuming) using in Terminal but like I said, I have no idea how all that works.

Thanks in advance for any input anybody can provide.

So far it doesn't work on my Mac either. Here's how to run it though.
You open up Terminal (on your own, don't click the icons in the download). You have to know the file path to where you saved the file i.e: Users/"username"/downloads/spectrum_root_linux_osx where "username" is replaced by whatever name you made for yourself on the computer (without the quotes). On my mac I don't need the first part, I just type
"cd downloads/spectrum_root_linux_osx" (again, without quotes)
Once you know where you have the file unzipped at, type this into Terminal and hit Return after everyline (assuming you just saved it to the downloads folder):
cd downloads/spectrum_root_linux_osx
sh run.sh

It will probably say something like "Files/files/./adb.osx no such file or directory" The adb file for osx is missing from this download. Also, sometimes the command for Mac doesn't need "./" in front of it, that's a Linux thing.

Interesting, thanks. Like I said I'm new to Terminal so it will take some playing around just to figure out how to navigate but I'm sure I'll (probably) figure it out. Contemplating going out and picking up a used laptop today, LOL.

you should do a google search for our names :P

we like to get the ball rolling on phones that may not otherwise see any kind of dev love. myself and k0nane have been involved in the rooting/rom/cwming of a good number of phones. root is done, i have a test cwm that is available... however at this t ime with no return it makes it VERY risky in that you wont be able to get back to stock should something go amiss :/

Top knotch devs on high end devices...enjoyed awesome work on epic 4g touch....excited to see ur names.left sprint...too pricey.kudos

I am waiting a while before i do anything cuz how the esteem was all fk up out the box

The esteem is still ****ed up. I haven't gotten it to the point that I am satisfied with it yet. It's the fking optimus M all over again. Is this phone worth it?

The link is unnecessary (lmao @Shabby), all you need to do is install the LG Spectrum drivers, follow other instructions as given and viola... ROOT..

So if the spectrum is similar to the connect enough for their root to work on it, had anyone checked to see if ROM manager supports the spectrum? If so, do you think their cwm would work on the connect? I was thinking about fiddling with it, but wasn't sure if ROM manager was safe for the device.

I wouldn't risk it until someone compares mounts n partition sizes. ;)
