Root Root Optimus V without computer

Well folks, that f-ing sucked! Scuse my abbreviated french.

Got same error as before, then remembered to toggle the thingy JerryScript told me to toggle, tried again, got:

installing: SDCARD:Harmonia 1.3.zip
Finding update...
Opening update...
E:cannot open /sdcard/Harmonia 1.3.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted

So, selected reboot
Got rebooting......
.....
.......
Nothing.
....
......
Had to pull battery

So,here I am, back to stock, since I wiped data this time, typing this on my crappy stock keyboard...my market only kept maybe 8 or so links and it looks all different...where do i even start to fix? Do I have to root again? Is my recovery still gonna be xionia? Help! :'(

You definitely have an issue with your downloads, flash_image was an empty file, and now your Harmonia download seems bad as well. You can go into recovery and restore the backup you said you made and have everything back.

I highly recommend you go to the Harmonia thread and ask the developer LeslieAnn for advice, since I don't use Harmonia (other than testing out when it was released). She is one of the most helpful devs you can find, and I'm sure she can help where I cannot with Harmonia.

Try downloading the Harmonia.zip again. It looks like you got a corrupted file on that one too. Erase the old one off your sd card first so you don't have a problem with duplicate files or overwriting issues, then try flashing it again. Once you have it downloaded, use your file manger to move it to the root of your sd card, and do not rename it.

Ok. *deep breath* I can do that. I hope. That was scary. Thanks. Sorry for the mini freakout.

Tried 2 different downloads, deleted old before dling new, have my downloads going to sdcard root by default. Have not renamed, however, the filename has a space between Harmonia and 1,which bugs me for some reason.is it usually ok for filenames to have spaces?

No reason to say sorry, I understand and appreciate your situation. If it's too scary at this point, you can stay stock+rooted and remove the bloatware like Where and Twidroid, and you will have a better phone than you started with. ;)

Filenames should not have spaces, some OSs can handle them, but it is never recommended.

First off, I suddenly love that ginormous backup! Breathing easier now that I'm all restored. Second, yeah, I might take a few days off, let my nerves settle, lol. But I don't like the idea of giving up completely. I didn't come this far to give up now. Third, if I can't get Harmonia working, how does Bumblebee compare? I've read good things, and it seems similar. (I'm going to research it too, but your like, the ROM guru :))

Bumblebee is an amazing ROM, and the dev is working hard on upgrading it's kernel to gingerbread. It is probably second only to asopCM7 for the number of added features and goodies.

Only reason I suggested Harmonia is because it is closest to stock, and gives lots of storage space. I would definitely recommend Bumblebee once you feel comfortable.

Thanks! If I can't get a clean Harmonia download, i might try it. Or something. I don't know. I'll research more. I think you or someone linked me to a thread that listed the different ROMs, recoveries, etc. that would have been awesome, if the person that posted it hadn't put them in a weird boxy thing that cut off the text in the middle of the list. (at least on my phone display, might be ok on a computer screen.)

Hmm... According to the Harmonia thread, this is the recommended recovery for Harmonia :
Recommended recovery: xionia cwma 12518.4 virgin.rar
versus xionia cwma 12518.6.img, which is what I'm using. Thoughts?

Edit: one of the other rom threads, I've lost track of which-either bumblebee or rodimus, mention something to the effect of xionia cwma 12518.6.img not being... something..formated?....for the V

That could be the issue, various versions of recoveries sometimes have different scripting and dependancies. I apologize for not posting the correct one, as I said, I don't run Harmonia on my phone.

I'm pretty sure this is the correct version of xionia recovery.

yeah,so,I actually downloaded it from the link on the Harmonia thread, renamed it a.img, tried to flash it,terminal em. went nuts, renamed it again, flashed it OK,OR SO I THOUGHT rebooted to recovery...stuck on LG screen. pulled battery, tried to boot into recovery with the buttons, stuck on black screen, pulled batt. again, powered on like normal, didn't try recovery and everything is OK. bout gave myself a heart attack for the second time tonight!!

So,question-since the new recovery is a rar and not an img, do I extract the img from the rar and rename the img? cuz that's what I did,and it obviously didn't go well. *edit-i see the link you posted is for the img,not rar like the one I got.I'll use that*

also,do I need to make a new backup with the new recovery,or will the one I already made work OK with it?

OK, looks like it flashed ok, but at this point, I'm afraid to reboot to recovery. Lol. Chicken, i know.

I would make a new backup, it's always best (see below)

I remember the first time I flashed anything on my phone, I was nervous the entire time as well! ;)

I just got confirmation from LeslieAnn the dev of Harmonia, she said the space in the file name shouldn't be an issue in recovery, and that she is pretty much 100% sure that if you get the same error with this recovery, it is due to a bad download of the Harmonia zip file.

OMG the flasher android guy is adorably hilarious! Slight problem tho, with the backups being so ginormous, i don't have room for another one, unless I delete the first one before I make a new one. But then I won't have the 1st one if something goes wrong while getting into the new recovery :(
My brain hurts, I'm going to bed! And sleeping til at least noon! Then maybe try the new recovery, if I'm feeling braver.
Thanks again for everything :) good night!

Edit: I just realized the android guy was actually 'backing up', (shows how tired I am!) love it!!

Could somebody Pleeeease just download the xionia recovery Zip and open it(you dont have to extract any files) and click on the How to text then read the code. It mentions the Image you should use is12158.4, not .6(Good Call Sadielynn). It explains more with the code as well. Come on JerryScript; pretty please, with cinnamon and sugar on top. (I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes)

I have downloaded it from multiple locations and haven't found anything but the recovery image inside the zip file. Could you share the download link you're using?

k so I just rooted using gingerbreak and have installed astro and terminal emulator. can you give me a step be step, noob friendly guide on how to install aosp, the needed recovery, and gapps( is it necessary? ) also can you post direct links to anything I need to download( last time I tried to flash a rom I ended up flashing the gapps first and had a great journey fixing my phone along with rocketspank:D) I plan on doing this on my phone by the way. thanks a million!

Sorry it took so long to remember were I downloaded it from. Had to do some mental and physical backtracking(still trying to clear the smoke out of the room) I haven't figured out how to paste a site into the post. If you go 10 threads down to "what are the advantages of rooting my lg optimus v" then in post #5 click on Bumblebee ROM. Scroll down in that site past all the screen shots and you will see it. After download click on it (you don't have to extract any thing to do this). click on the help text and it opens up a box with the code.

OK, I've tried the new recovery 3 times now, still not working. Hangs on the LG screen, have to pull the battery. :( sooo....since I can get the *other* recovery to work (the xionia_cwma_12518.6.img one), which ROMs work with that recovery? I'm think ill just stick with that, since I can get it working (although with my luck, it probably won't when I go to switch back) and just try a different rom, instead of fighting with this new recovery, which may or may not even fix the problem, unless you all have any other suggestions?

Edit: I think this is the link for what Andy was talking about

Better yet, here is the contents of the how to:
adb push flash_image /sdcard/
adb push xionia_cwma_12518.4_virgin.img /sdcard/
adb shell
(need to have a root shell)

# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /system /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /system /system
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/xionia_cwma_12518.4_virgin.img
# reboot recovery

how did you do that(the site url),and in blue no less. There it is,that code in the middle is what I've been trying to get people to look at(I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes)

Well, I'm using the phandroid app (no computer) and when I hit reply to make a new post, there's a blue bar at the top with "clean bold italic underline color url image" options. I just chose url and it brings up a text box to put the url in.
Alternatively, just put [*URL="url here"]name of link[/URL*] with out the *'s

For an image, use [*IMG] [/IMG*] with the image url in between.

Bold is [*B] [/B*]

And so forth.

Glad to be able to help someone, as I've obviously been unable to help even myself lately. :)

This last piece of the puzzle should help(I really, really, really, hope)I dont know how the code is going to translate over to the emulator on the phone, but every thing you need is in that zip file. I appreciate the help and advice on posting a URL and for the "Swift key"- beta. I hope everything works out. It doesn't look like I can help any further(I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes) wish I could. Maybe I'll read about you in a post helping someone with a problem sometime. AndyOpie150
